  1. Trusses need a ceiling -- does not need to be flat, and if there is a ceiling somewhere in the room, even with Ceiling Over This Room unchecked, they may be drawn, and will fill in like there is a ceiling.
  2. I bet the Help system and Knowledge Base have info on trusses. You don't. Just delete the walls you don't want.
  3. Manual roofs are not difficult, just take a bit of learning and practice. None of my business, but I could not resist creating a simpler version.
  4. Please post your plan file -- close Pro first.
  5. You are comparing a $5000 program with a $500 one The CAD tools have many shortcomings, such as no trim. Read about snaps (object, grid etc) and see how they work. There are videos that go over the CAD tools -- have you watched them? Have you considered SketchUp? You may not need to draw your entire house, just the parts (maybe just walls), that your addition will connect to.
  6. Then you belong at ChiefTalk. https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/
  7. Are you using Home Designer or Chief Architect? You probably checked Walls, Main Layer Only in your layer display options.
  8. Here is my version. Did not get very far. h 1.zip
  9. I've modeled that same plan -- don't remember why or when. You will probably need some manual roof work to get it correct. I opened your plan in Pro 2016, where the wall covering did not show up, and in the latest Chief Architect Premier, where it did. Suggest you use a Pony Wall, or Custom Backsplash, instead of the Wall Covering.
  10. I don't remember anyone having that problem, here or on ChiefTalk. Chief creates multi-page layouts, so the entire set of construction documents is in a single PDF, not just a single page layout like is in Home Designer. I'd contact Chief support directly. You could also try different PDF print drivers.
  11. Looks like you would need Pro to have additional options.
  12. Start by deleting framing (Edit>Delete Objects). Specifically roof framing, but you probably don't need any framing built as you build the model, so I would delete all framing, which turns off auto rebuild. Check the Knowledge Base linked above for an article on attic trusses. You left out something important and the article will tell you what. After your trusses are in place, build your roof framing if desired.
  13. 1) Delete the foundation 2) Open the garage and set the floor to -36. Uncheck Monolithic Slab. 3) Build the foundation, setting Garage Floor to Stemwall Top to 14.125.
  14. It's best to narrow your search here.
  15. That catalog is only available for the Chief Architect products, not for Home Designer.
  16. You might check to make sure Pro is using the correct video hardware.
  17. Will a post (framing), or a soffit, or slab or custom countertop, placed as required and given the correct height not work?
  18. Is Automatic Framing on? If building framing does not fix the problem, post your plan file.

    Roofing battens?

I believe what we might call a purlin, is what the OP is referring to as a batten. And no, the software does not do them automatically. It's been requested, as this is a common construction detail on buildings with metal roofing. What David is referring to, I believe, are battens installed as part of a tile roof. Tile roofs are very common in the Southwest and Western US. Here is a random image of the Phoenix, Arizona area. I would bet every roof visible is tile.

    Roof/Wall Question

Select the wall, in plan or camera view and drag it to fill the gap.
  21. Don't know why the walls act as they do. Here is a tip for adding the walls in the attic. On first floor, select the 4 walls forming the fireplace. Go to attic and Paste/Hold Position.
  22. Questions go in Q&A, Mike, and this is a fairly common question -- did you search?
