When I work/help a Home Designer user with their plan file using Chief Premier, in Chief I must first mark the plan to allow editing in Home Designer software and I must be careful not to use any tools or objects that cannot be edited or created in Home Designer software. Suite, Architectural and Pro have differing capabilities and tools but generally speaking, their plan files are compatible, with each other. DJP

Look for, find and correct either a wall that is programmed to be "No Room Define" in its dialog box or a wall connection that is not properly connected to solve this situation. You can try the "Fix Wall Connections" command found under the "build - wall+ dropdown menu. DJP

Edited a Material Object and Everything Applies but the New Width
DavidJPotter replied to AmyLynn's topic in Q&A
Each material is defined for viewing by two basic camera types: Vector view (just lines and colors defined by material "pattern settings" and secondly Standard Render Camera that uses the materials texture file to paint it across 3D surfaces. Both of these (pattern AND texture) must be adjusted in the Define Material dialog before that material will look as you wish in all camera types. I am assuming that you adjusted the pattern but not the texture, just guessing, DJP -
Do you mean like the attached image? If so, do as Eric above suggested. DJP

It is programmed to create the structure in a plan file then ADD the terrain and orient the terrain TO the structure. If you need to indicate magnetic North relative to the structure you tilt the North Pointer relative to the existing building to get this done. You do NOT make them separate and then merge. DJP
-
You draw the structures in the "North-South of your computers desk top. That is why they have provided a "North Pointer" that you rotate relative to the buildings, you should NEVER rotate your structures. The Terrain tools are virtually identical in Chief Architect and Home Designer Architectural, so Any help articles or videos should be helpful and not mislead you. I suggest after each study session that you practice on a simple test plan to make sure you have duplicated and understood what you have studied. NEVER GUESS, always look, always study and practice FIRST before you mess up your plan file! DJP

The software is hard pre-programmed to recreate attic walls automatically, your ONLY choices are to either make the auto attic walls is to make invisible or manually draw or redraw them. DJP
-
You toggle up to the <A> or attic level, turn on the "Reference Display" view so you can clearly see where to manually draw your attic gable walls that are missing, easy-peasy and Merry Christmas! DJP

Modified tile dimensions do not display in camera view
DavidJPotter replied to JBacon's topic in Q&A
Every material is defined in two distinct ways: one is the pattern of the material for use in vector view camera types and Two for standard, PBR and Ray Trace views, pixel based images are used in those camera types. So when you resize or shape a material you must alter the pattern AND reshape the image file for that material as well. Some Images do not reshape well, they become deformed. In such cases one would then make a new image file that visually represents the material, import that custom image as a new, custom material for then use in your plan file. DJP -

You will locate that wall on the second floor in plan view. Select-open it and make it a "Pony Wall" with exterior siding on top and interior wall below. Then you sort out the wall polylines for each so only the interior material shows inside and only the exterior material shows to the outside. DJP

What's your method for showing just house outline on plot plan?
DavidJPotter replied to InhabitEcoDesign's topic in Q&A
Surveyors do not use 3D software so their site plans will, by default deferent. I have been creating site plans professionally for about 25 years and have never had one rejected by a plan checker or permit authority. DJP -
Yes, you use two doors, one on top of the other. DJP

What's your method for showing just house outline on plot plan?
DavidJPotter replied to InhabitEcoDesign's topic in Q&A
I turn off all layers that I do not wish to show and turn on the ones I do wish to show in "Display Options" dialog. DJP -
Each light source is adjustable, all materials are also adjustable including the "Sun", that balance then causes your end effect which is under your control. DJP

Which software application are you using, please? DJP

Contacting Home Designer Tech Support is a good idea. What you see on screen is a direct reflection of your studied skill applied or misapplied and the quality or lack of it of your computer and its hardware. DJP

You should also be able to do that using Sketch Up in such a way that the faces are separate in the resulting symbol so when imported into HD Pro you have two faces to assign materials to. I am not saying that learning Sketch Up to that degree and then importing the resulting symbol into HD Pro would be "easy", but can be done by someone determined to have what they want. DJP
