tonybr
Need to remove 4' of base molding on one wall in order to insert a fireplace and surround as instructed by KB-00744. The surround is not reaching the floor. Only to the top of the base molding. Any help on how to remove just part of the base molding on one wall? Signature doesn't show (yet!) that I am using HD Pro 2016 on a Windows. Thanks
solver
Have you tried a Control-Drag to place it? Select it and move it while holding the Control key. Could you post the plan? The short answer is you cannot remove the molding on just one wall, but depending on exactly what you are doing, there may be alternatives. Need to know which surround etc.
tonybr
Well ... Let's see how this will go! First time on this and first time on HD Pro. I kinda thought it would be more "intuitive" than it seems to be. Anyway, I can't select the base molding in the room at all in any view. I just need to remove the part under the proposed fireplace scheme so that the tile reaches to the floor. I will have a threshold on the floor but directly on it so raising the threshold doesn't help either. Really don't want to have to go through, room by room, to add base if I just want to get rid of about 4' of it. Take a look at this (and anything else you see that I could "straighten up"!!! Like I said, first time on this and I am trying to learn as I go along. Another odd thing just happened. Every time I hit "Save" it is asking me for the complete path to save it to and if I want to replace existing. Don't understand that either. I hope this gets the file to you. LawB10
Did you try using the room divider tool? leave enough room so you can click on it and open it's specification box.
LawB10
You could also achieve the effect by simply putting the fireplace on the wall. Click Build>fireplace....hold down the left mouse button>place the fireplace on the wall and release.
solver
You cannot remove parts of the trim, or even the trim on a single wall. You can make the casing (tile surround) 13/16" thick instead of 1/16" so it simply covers the base trim.
LawB10
Solver, yes can by using the room divider tool, it creates a room where you can edit. A 3rd metheod is to use a doorway and then edit..
FlightDeck
I posted a similar question this past week and the workaround that I've been using is to use Room Dividers. In the floor plan view I draw Room Dividers to "box in" the section of wall where I want different mouldings. I then select the virtual invisible "room" that those created and modify the moulding settings in the room's properties.
rvbinder
Worked for me. After setting floor default moldings, they wrapped around my fireplace hearth and surround like Kudzu. Made a room with dividers, selected it in perspective doll house view, and then deleted that molding, which cleaned up the problem. Thanks
Janetcrouch
This topic is pretty old, but I'm having a similar issue. There is a box I can check on the wall specification for "No Room Moldings Exterior" and the same for "Interior" that removes all the moldings. I want to keep the crown, though, just not the base molding. There doesn't seem to be a way to do that. Any ideas?
Rookie65
What did you make that object out of?
Janetcrouch
I assume you are talking about the fireplace. I probably didn't do it the "right" way. I drew a small room out from the wall to make the fireplace (it's see-through) then I put a pass through on both sides and deleted the middle wall. That might not be what you are talking about, but that's what I started with. Then I put a 1 1/4" shelf across the wall and changed the material to a granite. I put 2 partitions the same height and width as the shelf and changed that material to the same granite. then I did a wall covering of the same granite that is the same height as the shelf. Janetcrouch
It looks great when I turn off the molding in the room, but then I lose the crown.
Rookie65
To keep the crown, you could try a soffit for the top, with the "open front and back" box shape for the bottom. Put a "closed" shape on the sides and top to make it look "thicker"
Janetcrouch
Ok. I can see what I can do with that. I'm a bit confused about what you are saying, but a soffit always comes in handy.
Jo_Ann
Delete the base molding, then add new crown molding.
Janetcrouch
Jo_Ann, I can do that for the entire room, but not just that one wall.
Rookie65
The shapes will not have a base molding option, while the soffit does. The open front to back box isn't "thick walled", so you'll need to do something to beef it up. See attached if that helps
Jo_Ann
Did you put the pass-thru "floor to bottom" at 0"?

Janetcrouch
Jo_Ann, no, the current firebox is 6" off the floor.
Janetcrouch
Keith, I will try that. Hopefully the base molding with not try to wrap around the sides.
Janetcrouch
Keith, I have Home Designer Pro 2024. Apparently, my soffit does not have the 14 minutes ago, Rookie65 said: open front to back option at all. It's not the end of the world. I would like for it to look better with the the crown molding for the client, but I might not have that option.
Rookie65
It's a shape, not a soffit
