Are both printer paper and your drawing Sheet in landscape orientation?

Be aware that you are testing HD Pro , and while dimensioning etc is the same in all HD Titles some features of Pro won't be available if you buy a lessor Title later. You can use the Point to Point Dimension tool to place dimensions if needed anywhere desired Usually you draw the wall then select the wall and use the temporary dimensions to place it exactly ( exactly will depend on your Dimension Defaults ie main layer or surfaces) You can Open a wall's dialog box (DBX) by double Clicking it , right clicking it and choose open , or selecting it and using the open icon on the edit toolbar and then change any of it's parameters. You may need to set/change your Dimension Defaults "Rounding Method" and "accuracy" , and the Format tab will give you FT and Inches rather than just inches just use the drop down menu. All in Edit>Defaults>Dimensions or double click the Icon that looks like a Wrench. M.

DJ- I thought individual control of overhangs was a Pro feature ,it is in each wall's DBX if available , but this KB Article has the Suite icon on it so hopefully it will help. The KB has many good Tutorials , always worth checking if you have an issue , you may have to use US terms in the search though http://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/article/KB-00077/52/Home-Designer/Roofs/Specifying-Different-Roof-Overhangs-on-Different-Walls.html Are you actually building this house ? just curious where.....
-
in Pro you can also move Roof Planes up or down levels if needed ,moving the roof planes up in a Cape design works, if the Reference Layer David mentions doesn't "work" for you.

hi Keith .... no the <br /><br /> are HTML (Rich Text?) tags which the new forum adds to my posts sometimes but I haven't figured out why ? CA always has suggested drawing in a clockwise direction to get the exterior layer to the outside , with interior walls it is more diffircult to see with drywall on both sides and a lot of the time makes no difference. I did have one other thought ...how did you get the 2nd copy of the plan ? do a save as>rename or copy and paste (C&P) into a new template plan ? if you did a C&P it is possible the Copy has picked up new "defaults" from the new Template's Defaults too eg you Plan Defaults for how dimensions are handled. M.

Dimensions measure to the Main layer usually , think we discussed this before Keith ? so if you draw some walls right to left and others left to right, or some up to down or down to up , the main layer(s) will/can be reversed , so with 100mm walls you could be out 200mm if both walls are reversed and it is measuring to the far side of each not measuring "inside the room" to wall surfaces.<br /><br />Make sure your dimension defaults on each plan are set the same too ie to wall surfaces..<br /><br />M.

JoAnn - DJ has all rooms in his plan at 84" except the Living Room which was set at 92" , only a 6 inch difference and it seems that HD will try to make it one Roof plane if there is not at least a 12" difference in height. As a quick test I set the masterbed and MB closet to 68" and the roof built correctly . without the 92 inch height in the Living rm he would get a standard gable roof (not shed) if all rooms were 84" (unless he used the 2nd flr like you) you are correct at the front it is 9'4-5" in DJ's Plan , I don't know why the Room height setting effects it in this case as from the back kitchen wall to the front there would be a 29-30" change in height at 3/4" pitch ( 3/4"x39'wide) of course the ceiling can still be flat under that slope if desired so if 84" in kitchen , at the front wall it should be in the 123-124" range (10'3" approx.) I think ? so I am unsure what setting is effecting what . I haven't played it it any more.... Yes the front wall of the house is cantilevered 26" over the basement wall but only on that side it appears You can test the 12" bug with a simple 40x30 gable house , say 8/12 pitch , now add a room on the gable end, say 12' deep by 15 wide and give it a shed roof and see what happens
-
DJ - as long as you are 12 1/16th difference initially the Roof should build correctly , I usually go 14" then slowly sneak back up until I find the exact height the "bug" kicks in , it seems you need to "rebuild" it at more than a 12" difference ( must reset something?) but as mentioned earlier in the thread I have found by increasing the height again an inch at a time I can sneak the height back up sometimes past the 12" difference . M.
-
DJ's room heights are 84" everywhere except the living Rm which is 92" which is why when I decrease the masterbed/closet to 79 15/16th" the Roof builds as needed/expected make it 80" and the roof reverts to original.......the wall between must be set to Full Gable too , it wasn't in his posted plan. your "guess plan" heights already exceed the needed 12" difference , perhaps try altering them and see what happens..... it is the same issue I helped Evolution (Bob) with a while back. Ahhhh didn't realise you were on XP , but I don't see your card acting any different in Pro Compared to HDA the underlying 3D engine is the same in both as far as I am aware, perhaps its time to get a copy of Win 7 or even and old computer or laptop off Craigslist with Win7 perhaps , happy to help with advise if you need it.... M.

not sure what your screen capture area is , but it sounds like the same bug the library window has in that it sometimes opens partly off the screen , if you grab and edge and resize the window it pops fully back onto the screen and then you can move it anywhere you want , even onto a 2nd monitor. library window issue , ie you can't see the top of the window M.
-
well the building is 40' wide which means it has 30" of Rise so it shouldn't look Flat..... what are the room heights in your "guess plan" then ? Don't you want to try the free Trial of Pro? or are you afraid you'll want to upgrade? so far I don't see and "must have" feature from Pro 10 but then I don't do that much as I cant save etc in the Trial.
-
I am using the Trial Version of HD Pro so I can open the plan , surprised you don't have it too ....the 12" bug has been around for years and is in HD Pro10 too. roof pitch on RH wall is 3/4" pitch on LH wall is 2" hence the offset ridge. bit more playing around and I found with this roof I can sneak the room height back upto almost 80",but at 80" it reverts back to the original. plan image

are you sure you are getting a room definition ? ie deck , no room means no roof have you checked Auto generate Roofs is "ON" (default is OFF in Pro) or rebuilt the Roof since changing the settings? M.
-
Yes Skirting (baseboard in NA) and Cornice (Crown in NA) and Picture Rail/wainscot moulding in each room or per floor. M.

I think you are running into the old 12" difference in room Height Bug , with the bedroom wall set as full gable ( not done ) and then setting the master bedroom and closet to 68" makes the wall generate correctly . Is you main floor really only 7' feet (84") high? JoAnn maybe able to confirm as I see the wall built in her 1st pic too...
-
I haven't caught your other threads yet....no not sure what the issue is/was HD seems to be able to come up with roof designs only it could think off
-
you have some issues by the look of it around the stair well , your beams don't look right as a side note it appears a bed is 1/2 thru the wall and you are hiding 2 tv's behind the couch M
-
do you have all the available Bonus and Manufacturers Libraries on the website? http://3dlibrary.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?r=site/detail/632 M.
-
because it assumes you want walls at the same height as the existing walls/floor defaults , normally if you know you want a mezzanine floor you build the structure as a two story structure with an open below area on the second floor where you want the two story height . you will find other posts here is you search mezzanine but here is a KB Article too: http://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/article/KB-00210/ M.

The file may just be corrupt , you could try downloading it again... but I'd still contact support as it maybe corrupt on their end.

A sloped Soffit may work , with the wood of choice material applied , then use copy/paste to make more of them... M.

did you uncheck the auto adjust height box on the chairs ? unchecking that allows me to set a chair any height I want off the floor .... not sure if your stairs are somehow effecting the height though? M.

Furniture is in the library ..assuming you download the Core catalog and the bonus libraries from the website.... Use Dollhouse Perspective view instead , let you look with no roof on the house..... If you mean being inside use Full Camera ....read the Refernece manual on how to place cameras 1st

you are in Vector view and apparently have Glass set to Opaque in the 3D Settings Menu/DBX , this is the default to make the 3D View "faster" but if your Computer has a good videocard etc no reason to have it set to Opaque, I think it is a per plan setting and needs setting for each Plan drawn.... post your plan...

The latest drivers are not necessarily the best Driver for the card you have in your computer , it might be worth doing some googling to see what is best version for your Card especially if it is an older card.
