Looks good PearlSing I think you need to edit your post above . I think it should say DO NOT let it touch the railing right? it says DO ...twice.... probably the forum's autocorrect , it's as bad as my phone's M.

Story and a Half Style - Wall Penetrating Roof Siding Issue
Kbird1 replied to alaska_av8r's topic in Q&A
hi Tim as JoAnn mentioned , HDA can not edit the Pony Wall shape ,(only height and width) , that can only be done in Pro. However JoAnn has gone all out and done a nice job of your plan with Shapes etc Only thing I noticed was I could see the OSB at the end of the wall for some reason , so I simply changed the OSB material to Drywall colour to hide it ( OSB doesn't paint well , so change the material) Mick -
Story and a Half Style - Wall Penetrating Roof Siding Issue

So I guess HDA doesn't have this option? ( for those reading this in the future , this is a HD Pro only option) -
Story and a Half Style - Wall Penetrating Roof Siding Issue
Kbird1 replied to alaska_av8r's topic in Q&A
I think you can do this automatically , or does HDA have a limitation? I use the Wall DBX setting for each side wall and just set the " if Lower wall split by Roof" and pick interior wall on the drop down list ( thick or thin as needed) , that should give you drywall inside and siding outside as needed. happy to help if I can , post again if you have specific issues ...pics of the problem help a lot.....a 1000 words and all that M.

What you are doing is basically a storey and a 1/2 structure ( Cape Cod ) and the KB Article on those is pretty good : http://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/article/KB-00358/52/Home-Designer/Roofs/Automatically-Building-a-One-and-a-Half-Story-Roof.html http://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/article/KB-01036/52/Home-Designer/Roofs/Stopping-the-Roof-from-Automatically-Rebuilding.html M.

Hi Assuming you have the Interior Dimension Tool I'd use that too or perhaps the Point to Point dimension Tool if you have it in Suite 7 ?, I think the newer versions also have an Auto Interior Dimension tool now Too similar to the Exterior one .....with the $30 rebate it would be $69 to get the latest version I think. http://www.homedesignersoftware.com/products/home-designer-suite/#upgrade I had a quick look at you plan You have put in the Terrain but not built a foundation yet..... hence the grass in the Living Rm it does not appear you have built the roof either yet.... not sure why all your Furniture is out on the Lawn ? or were you just trying different ones ? LH Wall is showing as an interior wall (Yellow) instead of an exterior wall (green) and the wall has a gap of 700 mm in it ? near the front door missing window ? The Exterior Doors are pretty Narrow especially the one off the kitchen @ laundry 550mm? laundry 700mm etc don't forget you will be carrying Arm loads of stuff. Mick

I did note the 108 and 96 " , but wasn't sure if they were exact heights? as if I even went 1/16th inside 12" I lost the Roof again. I also found I had to set the side room height really low eg 65" 1st after the error condition ,which seemed to "break" the existing "roof connections" , and then sneak back up to the desired height. 10" at a time. If I didn't drop it really low 1st the Roof continued to "Hang on" to it's old settings/shape as I lowered it even past the 12" mark. Can you post the plan or email it to me ? I'll take a peak if you'd like..... You can try what I have mentioned on a small 20x30 house , then add a 12' x8' addition on the one gable end , I can easily now reproduce this problem, unfortunately it took a long time to figure out on an old plan ( My Cabin ) that I have been working on for a number of years on and off.... Mick.

did you use you Plan's default window? or use something from the Library? this one started as per the RH window and then I just changed options in the Window DBX to get the LH window... Mick

it seems I was over my Space limit on the Forums for attachments Bob , but here are the Pics : If all the Room height are the same it builds perfectly with auto roofs on but once you start changing room heights things get a bit strange.... Full gable wall High shed ( hip, why ?) at 95 5/8 room height at 95 3/4 Room Height Mick.

Try setting it to Railing , with the checkbox in the Wall DBX and see if it works , you'll probably have to create a railing that works with your window spacings etc though ,you may even lose the windows switching it to railings , so use the Undo Button if needed. Save a copy of your plan 1st ,so you can go back , if things go Pear shaped.... M.

Hi Bob , the 12" difference problem is something I discovered recently in a Plan of mine , I had ,had trouble with for sometime , reducing the room height difference to 12" or more solved it , ie if you go 11 7/8 you get blended roof and 12" you get two separate roofs. I just did a test plan and tried it .....and the room height diff. of 12" or more solves it every time ie at 107 5/8 my "Bathroom area" could be a max of 95 5/8 high ....95 3/4 caused the Roof to turn into a Hip even though set as a Full Gable slightly different from your problem...... what I did was set the "Bath Rooms" to 66" and then slowly creep back up till I found the height they would no longer Blend ......any closer than 12" and they will "Blend" together , so I think it must be Hard coded into HD? Someone else may know more , but I do know it's an old issue after searching the old forums. I'll add the pics when I can the forum is blocking my uploads for some reason? Mick
-
As a test Bob try setting the room heights further apart eg 24" , HD seems to have an issue if the heights are too close eg 12" or less where it attempts to "blend" things together. Is this with auto Roofs on ? or are you doing it all manually? M.

you should be able to suppress the casing on the Casing Tab , try making all measurements 0" too on the same tab. worse case, make the material for the casing "Opening>no material" and increase the Transparency too 100% ( no idea why it defaults to 80%) hope that helps... M.

The only option I found was to lock the cameras in D.O. so you can't select them by accident. bit of a pain but works. M.

Hi Bill . I did answer it here in April http://hometalk.homedesignersoftware.com/showthread.php?19454-How-to-flip-a-corner-window-Home-Designer-Pro-2012&highlight=arch+window+flip but you can very easily make you own with the Arch Tool in the window DBX , set to round top arch and the checkbox for right or left arch...after setting the height and width on the general page eg 24" for both. >M.

The problem with your Roof/building is related to the fact that in HD if a roof plane touches anything it disappears/gets "cut" , the setting "wall cut at bottom" may help with that but depends on the roof/wall drawn it seems to work well. I tried your methods. and the second storey way was cleaner of the two but using a modified version of the Clerestory KB Tut. was the cleanest ,though I still had to so some manual cleanup of the model afterwards to get the ceiling inside to "draw" nicely with drywall fully wrapped etc. http://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/article/KB-00492/52/Home-Designer/Roofs/Building-a-Clerestory-Roof.html Instead of one 19" room with no roof/ceiling in the Tut. above , I used two , so I got the "Roof Popup" per your image after setting the middle room height higher . In the real world I guess that the "walls" would probably be Girder Trusses or a massive beam as they support the whole Roof ..... including the Upper roof. Someone may have a better way ? perhaps JoAnn ? I cant add pics today for some reason ,will try again later..... M.

Yes that's an option I'd like too but have been waiting years for. M.

Probably by making the 13' area it's own "Room" and making the floor © height in the range of minus -36-50" (play with it to get it right) M.

you might want to contact tech support , see what they suggest , it seems strange to me that the Walkthroughs are done in a Codec that is only available to 32bit systems and wont play in the major Media Players of the Day. Perhaps point them to this thread too ? I'm a little dubious of downloading codecs online myself at this point.... M.

I'd look for rooms where I couldn't get a Room Def. 1st ,which should be the 1st clue if you can't find the circle as I can't most of the time. M.

it is unusual for a house of that age to have 8" thick framed walls ( usually 2x4) , I thought perhaps you had looked at the foundation thickness and assumed the same thickness all the way up.....but a simple measurement with a tape will confirm either way. Is the house brick veneer ? then I could see 8" with a 3" brick over the 2x4 " wall plus the air gap in between... M.
