  1. If all you are doing is a basic floor plan even Suite may suffice , if you have a complicated Roof then Pro makes that easier to deal with but as Eric said you can start low eg Suite start you Plan and if you need HDA or even Pro you can upgrade and get a rebate worth the value of the previous product so nothing is lost , and any plan drawn can be opened by a "better" version of the software with no issues.
  2. try placing the Columns from the Library over the auto-generated ones , it is more or less how it is done in real life too do a forum search and you will find other Threads on columns including a few to download ... M.
  3. how about posting it here so Karen and I can take a look at it too .....pleeeeaassee thanks, M.
  4. Sorry Karen ,my last post wasnt too clear , I meant the official Line is that you need Pro to do the Dutch Gable back in July JoAnn and I played with this for another User and found it is possible without Pro but requires a BUNCH of Fiddling with heights and extra floors..... not sure what is up with that link to my post in July ? but try this link ,scroll down to see my and JoAnn's post's. https://hometalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/182-gable-not-at-end-of-roof/?hl=%2Bdutch+%2Bgable#entry915
  5. Actually Karen it looks like a Dutch Gable (also called a Dutch hip roof) with gable Roof over the Porch at the Rear , however I don't think it is possible with Suite as you can't manually edit Roof Planes . http://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/article/KB-00749/52/Home-Designer/Roofs/Creating-a-Dutch-Hip-Roof.html However I found a way that works , I posted in a thread about this in July https://hometalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/182-gable-not-at-end-of-roof/?hl=%2Bdutch+%2Bgable#entry915
  6. Sounds like someone was having a bad Monday sorry to hear that , so it looks like since you have Suite that JoAnn's solution is the best way to go , you could try the Trial of Pro but it may not be worth it for just one house plan....unless you Plan to do your own Construction Documents. It easily put the 1/4" slope Shed Roof over the Family Rm but for whatever reason no matter the wall settings, I get a weird hip/gable combo over the bedroom , fixable in Pro as it has Manual Roof Tools but once again JoAnn has found a good workaround for lessor titles M.

    new texture

Normally for a new material I , Open library RC My library>Chose New>Material to open DBX give new material a name and pick a colour if needed for vector views on texture tab browse for your file (textures are what you see in Standard Rendered Views only) On Pattern tab select a pattern so you see something in Vector views if needed ? apply new material from library to your "object" M.

    Wall Overlap

it certainly looks strange , your cross section shows a 8'6 basement. 10' main floor yet your Defaults say the main floor is 42" high? and a total height of 163.5" which is 13.5' , not the 18.5 or more you would expect...... in a new plan draw a simple square box house with basement , check it's cross section and floor defaults and then use those settings in your old plan.... M.
  9. Because you copied Rooms off the ground onto the second floor you have ended up with a foundation setting you don't want on the 2nd Flr, which is causing the no ceiling/floor issue as the Room is using the "Floor Supplied by Foundation Room Below" for all the rooms , I was hoping for you, that deleting the Foundation would reset ALL foundation settings back to default but it doesn't look like it worked . Make sure your room settings are correct before copying anymore.....102" on Level 1 is a strange height , I would of assumed a 109" height for all Floors? are ALL Rooms on Level 1 102" ? with Suite you cant change the floor structure and Foundation settings are limited , so the only choice maybe to redo the "bad rooms" or take advantage of the upgrade refund and get pro, so you can alter those settings ...download the Trial 1st , see if it can fix it 1st ( you can't save ,print or export in the Trial) then activate as Full if it fits your needs. Hopefully someone with more familiarity with the 2015 line of products might have some more help for you.... M.
  10. You should send a report to Tech Support and ask them to look at this thread....... the deck jumping back isn't right and certainly wouldn't be like that in real life.
  11. That is true , and of course if it is to be actually built you cant do Full Construction Docs with Suite either.....
  12. Had a look and it is strange , i'd call it a bug , you are right it jumps over 4 " when you make the carport a room... Only way I found to make it work was to enclose the Carport completely (4 walls) ,making the two abutting walls full gable with 0" overhang , I then made the front wall of the Carport's Newels 0" wide so that it wouldn't generate a double post at the corner of the deck. I made the Room a Porch and change the Concrete to Gravel-2 from the library after making the Floor -18" ? the Terrain was a bit low as your foundation wasn't deep enough (footing was showing with default Terrain Height.) Snipit kept freezing as did Paint trying to take pics of this so I had to take a couple of bad one's with my phone.....
  13. Because you are using Suite , I was using the 2015 Pro Trial to look at your Plan ( you could download it too if you;d like to look at it) as I have Pro 10 so can't open your plan otherwise. Are your Floor defaults set up properly for each floor ? did you perhaps make the a Room on the ground 1st ( as seen off to the side of your main building) and then move it over and up ? not sure why you have those settings on most of the upper floor rooms is the pic above from the 1st floor or the 2nd ? are they the same?........... 1st I think as I see no 2nd floor try this.......do a "save as" and in the new plan try deleting the foundation and see what happens , it's easy to rebuild it when needed.... then check each Floors Defaults in Edit>defaults>Floor look at the DBX's title and make sure it is for Floor 1 , make sure all is good , then move upto level 2 and do the same again Worse comes to worse you might want to send/link the plan to a Tech Support Ticket and see what they think , if nothing else they maybe able to fix it for you and send it back ,since you have done so much work on it. With luck you wont have to redo the 2nd floor..... With only the Trial Version it is not something I can do for you....
  14. It would be interesting to see what Tech Support has to say about your plan . and if they have a better way than building a second structure , it shouldn't be this difficult....I got the same result as Solver messing around with your plan , fixable in Pro but there should be a better solution. Mick.
  15. Maybe it has something to do with starting as a porch ? Using the Standard Straight Deck Railing Tool I have no issue aligning the post with corner ......unless I am missing something? using post to ceiling, no half post, no rail etc per pic2. Mick
  16. Eric is right, most of the 2nd floor rooms have this issue, ie the whole front and about 1/3 of the rooms on the back but if Suite doesn't have this option on the Room Tab what does it have? Issue areas selecting walls will show problem areas too Yours Room heights settings What it should look like I think note unchecked foundation supplied by room below and all other settings at Default your stairwell "lining"??? is also too tall (and a short closet in pic)
  17. did you have a read of the Ref. Manual? , I had a play in 2015 Trial and I can't get it to change to an invisible wall .....can you recreate the issue ? M
  18. You should really complete the Structure BEFORE you start placing furniture ,cabinets etc , the .Plan file is 63 mb already ! there are also a number of textures missing as you didn't do a full "backup of the entire plan" and zipping the save folder to post. Will have a look using the 2015 Trial since I am on Pro 10 There are still a number of rooms set to 120+ " for finished ceilings etc instead of 109"
  19. I don't have Room Divider on Pro 10 but as far as I know it does the same job as the Invisible wall I have in Pro 10 , and I thought it was by default "invisible". what are you trying to do with it where you want it to show ? then I would just change the wall type to whatever you need... M.
  20. Hi S. how did you draw the Deck then ? normally if you use the Deck Railing or Deck Edge Tool to draw the deck the room is created automatically once it is a closed space , eg 3 sides plus the house wall. In the Pic above it looks like you drew the wall / room divider beside the deck rather than "on the deck" though it really shouldn't be needed. M.
  21. this KB Article may help too , in the future at least, while it is written for Chief I found a lot is applicable to HD Pro too... http://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00463/ this is a doc I found on the Forums a number of years ago and have modified with a few notes for my own use , that might help others too. 22. I am not sure the Edit Area Copy trick will work (but try it anyway) after doing a bit of reading on the old forum as anything that you have changed from "default settings" already will not pickup the new "defaults" from the new Template style..... here is some advice from Dermot Dempsey ,(a Home Designer Software Engineer) that he posted a few years ago but this hasn't changed much, if at all. You do not need to start over using a new template. The style templates contain lots of different default objects but the ones that have the biggest affect on the style of your plan are the windows, doors, and cabinets. If you start a new plan and then later decide that you would prefer a different style object, there are several ways you can make this happen. You can start over using a new style template, but this may involve a lot of work if you have invested a lot of time in your plan. You can also go in and change the various default settings for your plan but you will not be able to change all of the settings that will affect the style of an object. Also, this may not update all of your existing objects to be exactly the same, so again you may still have to redo a lot of work. You could also use the method where you use the Edit Area tool to copy your model into a new plan that was started using the template you want but then you would still have to redo all of your windows, doors, or whatever it is you want changed. Another method would be to copy the object from one plan to another. Just start a new plan using the style of object that you want, place the object in the plan, and then copy it to the plan you are working on. This is probably the easiest and most straight forward method but it still means that you have to replace all of the objects in your plan that are the wrong style one by one. This is the method I would recomend for Version 8 Home Designer products. If you have one of the Version 9 Home Designer products (except the base version), you can also save objects to the library. This means that you can start a new plan using any style template you want, place an object, and then add it to your library for use in any other plan. You can also customize your own objects to create any style you want and then add these to the library as well. You can now create as many different styles as you like that can be mixed or matched in any plan. Now to make these tools even more powerful, in some products you can use the Replace From Library tool to replace an object in one plan with any similar object that you have in the library. If you select the option to replace all identical object, you can often replace most of your objects all at once. 23. virtual memory links , usually it is set about 1.5X your real memory size (ram) but Windows often sets it equal by default.... http://windows.microsoft.com/en-ca/windows/change-virtual-memory-size#1TC=windows-vista http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/132201-virtual-memory-paging-file-change.html http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bY1P91GYLzI
  24. You can also change the Cabinets and moldings in the plan you have too..... you aren't "stuck" with the default ones for a given template. Have a look at the Edit>Defaults>Cabinets>Base/Wall/Full height etc. and Edit>Defaults>Materials>Cabinet/cabinet door/countertop etc. These settings may not be retro active though if you have already placed everything , which would mean having to edit cabinets individually or as a group using group select. to copy an entire plan you need to use edit>edit area> edit area(all floors) M.
  25. I understand , fix the chimney and see if it fixes the siding issue as something is screwy there... or delete the chimney temporarily and see if that fixes the issue with the siding.
