Never used the shift key for that , but definitely sounds like Angle Snaps are off , there is an icon on the Display Toggles Toolbar , near the Temp. Dims. icon, looks like a right angle with 3 lines coming out off it , generally it is always ON. Just open the Wall DBX and set the angle to 0° or 90 or 180 or 270 , whatever you need to correct it

@David ......Any reason ,not to add 18" to the Room height on the 2nd floor rather than using Transform/replicate ? or the Raise/lower from ceiling height box on the Build Roof DBX? just curious .... @Bruce ...are you using the Wall Roof Pitch setting to get the " flatter roof " and then the Upper Roof pitch box for the steeper section ? with the change in pitch starting 144" in from the baseline ( or whatever it is ,distance wise?) how have you done it otherwise? you could always post the plan if needed. M.

Just saw this over on ChiefTalk Warren https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/2532-mac-users-yosemite-upgrade/ Chieftalk is a good resource for Pro users since about 25% of the features are the same......

While looking in the KB just now I noticed this new Tutorial on modifying a basement wall, haven't tried it , so not sure if windows and doors work ( or Framing) as usual or not. http://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/article/KB-00382/33/Home-Designer/Walls/Modifying-a-Wall-Type.html

Pics help a lot Laurel , use the Windows 7 Snipit Tool in Accessories to get so screen grabs of what is happening in Suite , and pics of your actual house will/may help too. There are several threads on how to add pics if you don't know , just do a forum search. I am not sure what you are trying to do after you setup the second floor Roof with the ignore 2nd floor box , if you uncheck it the roof will rebuild the roof on top of the second floor walls regardless of the autobuild roof setting. You may have run into a limitation of Suite as it does not allow manipulation of Roof Planes like Pro does, but with more info it is likely we can find a "workaround". It sounds like you have done some research here and read the Tutorials in the KB , so likely we need pics and more info to help. Mick

It is a good idea to update your Profile signature Bruce as you can tell nobody read your thread title I did..... Pro 2015 His photos show 2 brick chimneys Keith not the framed chase and insert in that particular KB Article, this one may help some though http://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/article/KB-00885/ But I am assuming you used the Fireplace tool ? what usually happens with that is that when you place the Fireplace in the wall depending on it's default depth it doesn't extend out the wall to the exterior or just barely ,so you may need to select the fireplace and open it's DBX and resize the depth as needed , you can also grab the rear edit handle ( not the centre one) and pull it back thru the wall ( see pic below ) then in a 3D view or better an Elevation view you can select the Chimney and Drag it up past the roof and down to the foundation ( it will initially built at Level 1 floor of 0" , see pic) , then from the library you can add a Cap with Flues or use a custom Slab (Tool) and Shapes from the Library to make the Flues eg an open cylinder , if one in the library isn't a good match. Note that the Library chimney Caps are initially set at 0" high , so will be on the ground , so open the DBX and set it to the required height ( taking note in the Elevation view will help with this). I didn't bother changing the material to your Red Brick from the Library for this example. Get the house setup exactly then play with the terrain/sidewalks etc later , the Terrain Tuts. in the KB are pretty good , start a new thread when ready for that if needed. I used the Windows 7 Snipit Tool in Accessories to take these pics, you can do the same , pics help ALOT when posting Threads.... Mick

this won't help you Solver as it doesn't work with the framing still but copying an existing two layer wall at least gets you the window and door cuts outs thru both Walls..... From the Basement wall thread: I played with this tonight and the Pass thru and Doorway Option mentioned above in my post does Work but it is a bit of work to line stuff up but Bob's image above got me thinking, "What if we alter an existing 2 layer Wall" , ie a Brick Wall as it already "knows" the windows and doors must pass thru both walls .....and it does work ! (but does not help with Framing views sorry) Start by copying the 4 or 6 inch Brick wall ,and then altering the layers to the required material and thicknesses eg: The Brick becomes 3/4" siding/stucco or 8" thick Concrete or ? 1/2" OSB is the same 0" Building wrap is the same etc see image the view

These Forums are all End Users just like you , but no reason you couldn't email Tech Support too. Is it just happening on the one computer? are they all using XP ? Win7 etc? any chance the shortcut is assigned to something else? wall break icon doesn't work either? Have you checked all your preferences? snap properties etc ? As Elovia said , not really enough info for us to help much, just guesses

The thread on Basement windows has a similar issue https://hometalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/430-basement-windows/ and as I said there: the only way I can think of is to place a Window Pass Thru or Doorway the same size as the Door or Window in the Interior Wall , as it seems currently double walls are not supported properly ....pretty surprising given that nearly all basements these days have interior walls at the perimeter to meet Code (insulation) this would/could mean a fair amount of extra work though depending on the project .

Temp. Dims have an Icon on the Display Options Toolbar to toggle it on or off, it looks like a "T" with an arrow , you may have clicked it by accident?

If you can't find one Warren , ask nicely over on the Chief Symbols Forum , someone may have one as there are a couple of Guys there from England and other parts of Europe, or someone maybe willing to make one for you , provide some images or better yet some spec sheets with measurements of what you need as Built-in toilets aren't really a Residential Item here in N.A. https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/forum/9-symbols-and-content/

Check your Reference Manual for " Edit Object Parts " the PDf is available via the Help Menu if you don't already have it ? I am unsure if it is in Suite but you may need to turn the Preference on too ,for me in Pro the icon turns up on the Display Toggles Toolbar, see if these two pics help ....... note red text in images close up of Toolbar (moved off sidebar)

I don't play with Terrains often but I believe Terrain Walls are actually Polylines not "walls" in the usual sense, so you can use the Break line tool if needed but it shouldn't be if you draw the wall in sections ie where you want the steps it will appear to join into one wall but if you turn on the "Edit objects Parts Tool" it will let you select the individual parts ( cos they are polylines (cad) not walls) and then you can set the height of each section in the DBX for that section once opened. I see you have Suite so if these tools are not available you should still be able to draw them separately change the heights and then move them together. This is what I did for the two walls in the back of my pic below Mick

I would probably have drawn it as a 2nd floor room with the storage room as the 1st floor ,with a lowered ceiling height..... but haven't tried it....

David and Eric have you set in the right direction , turn off railings in the staircase DBX on the right and left then draw your two walls then in a 3d view select the wall and grab the edit handle and "pull" / "drag" the bottom of the wall up to the bottom of the stair slope. As David mentioned probably easiest in a Cross Section view rather than say a Full 3D Camera View but doable . As far as I know this only works in Pro as we are able to edit polylines. M.

you can spin the model in Overview (any?) Mode with CTRL+ALT+S or by Orbiting the model in the direction you want and letting go of the mouse button , the faster you move the mouse the faster the spin , reclicking the window or pressing ESC will stop the spin. check out the Reference manual too pages 644-645 in mine under Overview Direction Tools

Perhaps 3D Warehouse if there is nothing in the HD Libraries ,nothing under Commericial Plumbing? perhaps? The Mac version can't import .skp files (Sketchup) though but can import .DAE (collada) so look for them or a way to convert them. Also try searching on names other countries may use eg Europe vs USA vs Australia etc

Although we both found the same workaround to get both walls to show in 3D , we have different views I guess on whether it is / there is a bug , did you try placing a door or window ? I maybe doing something wrong but I cant get either to cut a hole in the second wall , in either Pro 10 or Pro 2015 Trial , only difference is in 2015 I can assign a specific Jamb width and it will extend beyond the 1st wall , at least for Windows , same setting on doors does not work , on windows the jamb sticks thru the wall but still doesn't cut a hole..... but perhaps I missed a setting since I am not real familiar with 2015 ( or X6) EDIT I see Solver posted about the Windows and Doors too as I was writing this.....
-
Yes, It works in older versions too David, that is what I did in Post no#6 to get it too work too using Pro 10. Perhaps you should refer Tech Support to this thread so they understand the Issue ? these kind of walls are becoming more popular for energy efficiency homes, at least in my reading of Fine Home Building (FHB)

Interesting ...I have not seen/heard of the use of I-joists for Walls mentioned before or the horn. strapping for a wiring chase but most of the work I do is Reno's on 20-120yr old homes not new builds. However both VB and Rainscreen are Code here ,though I don't model either usually as it is "accepted practice" and can't be done without , usually a note in the Typical Wall Section would be it. M.

Cabinet Design functionality in the $79.95 DIY version?
Kbird1 replied to beittelb's topic in Sales Related Questions
Bit strange David I see no mention of "RTA cabinets" or "Conestoga Cabinets in the OP's post.... I guess someone did some editing for some reason..... It's a pity more information like DerekP's posted above isn't more readily available , the good news is if you do need to upgrade you get a full rebate of the price paid against the new title... -
thanks to Eric (Solver) I found the link to the Post on ChiefTalk for you to look at about the PDF issue on MAC. https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/1042-mac-users-printing-to-pdf-question/

can you not select the post(s) and move it over or just delete it?
