  1. Did you draw the double wall as two separate walls , or did you define a new wall type with the 2 framing layers ? HD uses the "Main Layer" to control / define a number of things like how/where walls join , so in this case it may be easier to define the Exterior wall studs as 8" instead of a 3 1/2" 2x4 (3.5" +3.5"+1" gap=8" total) so everything joins and dimensions easily. M.
  2. Your Foundations walls are defined as Railings with a footing , so they are not going to show in the Framing 3D view, not sure why y ou have them as railings though rather than a 2x6 framed wall , studs would be at 16" , maybe 12", centres too depending on loads. It also appears that you haven't rebuilt the framing since defining them as railings the walls appear when you do , and there is a wall sticking out of the Roof as well ? As Eric pointed out the footing comes back when you rebuilt the foundation , it is defined as part of the railing as mentioned above so railings need to be turned on in framing view too or they don't show. Mick
  3. As Geert said above , pretty much what I was thinking ,on the overlapping Soffits and partitions. M.
  4. Same issue ? not sure Suite has Slabs , and it sound like it needs a 45° end which is difficult with Soffits but maybe possible? depending on shape.
  5. Does Suite have Pony Walls ? , set bottom to stone, top to siding. set it up in Defaults before you start drawing the exterior walls.....
  6. I think only Pro has the ability to do custom counter tops ? perhaps post pics of your attempts at what you want or at least a sketch , or a pic of a sketch if no scanner....." a picture is worth a thousand words" as they say.... M.
  7. ***I have checked the Defaults and checked the Display Options. Everything looks like it should work....but it doesn't*** Did you check them with the Layout file selected ? or the Plan File? each window has it's OWN Display options ,elevations, 3D Views etc all have their own specific Display Options DBX....
  8. I don't think you can get rid of the SD etc from H.Designer's detectors ( embedded in CAD Block?) but you can specify your own labels by opening the object and going to the Label Tab and putting in your own , you will need to turn on the correct layer to display the label in 2D plan views. This works best with Objects that don't already have a label eg the SD on smoke detectors. Here is some security motion detectors I found on 3D warehouse and a Control Panel for the Alarm system , you can change the materials if you want to , their heights etc too , and on the label tab ,choose specify and put MD ( motion detector) or SCP ( for the security control Panel) , once you place one and rename, you can copy and paste to other locations. If Auto Labels is "on" you will see them labelled per their Library name , so you could change the items name to MD ,instead of motion detector , so you don't need to change it on the plan , if you can remember a name like MD in the library ,this way works fine too. Then in display options , make sure to display the Labels for Fixtures. Security-System_Detectors.calibz Someone else may have a better method , new versions may have other capabilities..... If you have Chief not Home Designer you will have other options too.... ( I see you posted on Chieftalk as well now? ) Mick.
  9. For 3 windows I would just fake it, as I don't think this configuration is possible in HD titles and don't do extreme closeups Mick.
  10. Thx Kat ,started with 8 , now 10 but I could swear I have found more in depth info in the Ref. Manual on numerous occasions, not on all subjects but some yes, that has helped in the past. Strange.... might have to change my sig. M.
  11. post your version of HD 2015 and a copy of your plan so someone can look at it for you. if you have really screwed the plan up somehow , look in the Data Folder for a folder call archives and look for a plan with the same name as the one that went pear shaped.... M.
  12. I think in 2015 Titles this is right Kat , but if you have an older version like me the "Help" isn't 100% the same as the Ref. Manual and it does not include the User Guide either but I am unsure when that changed actually. M.
  13. You can also turn them off permanently in Prefs>Architectuaral>Roofs which is what I do...... Mick.
  14. Once you have Opened the Reference Manual via the Help Menu item ,it is best to save a copy to My Document , then you can open it without downloading it each time from the internet, via a shortcut or "recent files" on the Adobe Reader "File" Menu. Once the manual is Open use the FIND bar to search for items in the manual ( enter term, hit enter) and the right arrow to search for the next instance of the search (find) term or the left arrow to go back to the one just read. I am using Adobe Reader 9.5.5 but most versions should look similar to this:
  15. Yes ,close the program and reopen it , if it still has issues , close all programs and turn the computer off ,wait a couple mins and turn it back on again , and try HD Pro again. I suspect that you either had a filter on the library ,see the very top of the library window , or after you loaded Pro on your new computer you tried searching while HD Pro was still trying to re-download all the library content from the internet again. If it is still doing it check that the Core Content and all Bonus Libraries have indeed been down loaded. Mick.
  16. Follow the 1 1/2 story Tutorial in the KB (below) , and don't define as an Attic as HD "sees" attics as a "special room" with specific inbuilt settings and have a look at the KB Tut. on mezzanine Floors too. (below no#2) http://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/article/KB-00358/ http://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/article/KB-00210/ Turn off Auto Roofs before you uncheck/change the Attic setting , and make a backup of you plan via the "Save As" dialog incase it all goes pear shaped. M. ***beat me to it Jo
  17. The issue is called z-fighting , I use Pro 10 and see it occasionally but I find it is more of a problem in 2015 Trial for eg. you can change the default clipping distance to eg 400 default is 300 I think and see if that helps but if you do a search here or on the old Forum (better?) you will get more tips too , also try Chieftalk and it's legacy forum. sometimes if possible in your software you can eliminate it by making one material thicker , as the are "fighting" for the same space in 3D and the thicker one will hide the thinner. This used to be an issue sometime if you drew your model too far away from the Origin of 0,0 , which is usually approx. in the bottom left hand corner of the window when you open a new plan ,closer is better but it doesn't have to be exact. (watch/turn on, your status bar to see the coordinates of your cursor) Mick.
  18. okay thx for followup , I was thinking the half walls spaced against the exterior walls ,was generating a room (definition) somehow and thus you automatically got the mouldings.
  19. Did you try setting the 1/2 walls to no locate , and/or no room definition ? M.
  20. I don't know of a "center view" key if that is what you are asking , all 3D views are dynamic ,so I don't know if it's possible ? ,though it would be handy as you say , like you I usually just close the view and reopen it. Mouse Wheel zoom in 3D doesn't affect the camera ,as you have noticed , it works like a digital camera using digital zoom , ie it is just "cropping" the existing image. per the manual Zooming With the Mouse Wheel Use the mouse wheel to zoom in and out in plan and 3D views. Scrolling the mouse wheel one click up or down zooms in or out, centering on the location of your pointer and changing the zoom by about 10%. Zooming in 3D Views Zooming in 3D views does not change the camera’s location or field of view. Instead, the extents of the view are expanded or cropped. You can alternatively set cameras to zoom by adjusting their Field of View. See “Render Panel” on page 96
  21. and what happens if you remove the wall coverings you added? save a copy of your plan 1st ,under another name(s) for backup and then "play" with one of them . I'd say video driver but try standing closer or further away from the view try changing the clipping distance under 3D settings try changing the thickness of your wall coverings if possible if not try adjusting their transparency. M.
  22. Only Chief has ray tracing and the ability to export 3D Models to use in 3rd Party Render Software Such as Blender (free) ,3DMax etc. Interiors does have RT , but not sure if it is enabled in the Trial or not? Ray tracing is a bit of an Art , see Jintu's (Chiefer) Posts on ChiefTalk some are pretty amazing eg this pic of a Milan Loft , note he is an Expert in 3D rendering though. https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/2498-looking-for-fast-pc-for-vray-render-of-milan-loft/#entry20216 Mick
  23. Nice Kat ! well that's my learning for today done , now what? M.

    Networking.....

I don't have 2015 yet so if there is nothing in the the HDP Core or Bonus Libraries , try these at 3D Warehouse https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/search.html?q=Router%2Cmodem&backendClass=entity and get/read the Reference Manual (see my sig) on how to import and save to your own library Mick.
  25. You have Pro Robyn so I just wanted to Clarify , that if you have Pro you can use the Auto Floating Dormer Tool and then manually edit the Roof plane in front of the Dormer to cut it out once the Dormer is exploded. Other titles because they can't cut the roof plane manually with have to use the Manual Dormer methods.
