    error message

no program name , no program version, so not enough info........ but no I haven't seen this....contact tech support while they are still open , they don't monitor the forum.
  2. 2 guesses would be: when you built the 2nd blank floor you set the ceiling height to 0" hence no walls built when you built the Roof you checked the box to ignore the 2nd floor ( so roof is built off 1st floor wall plates and ignores 2nd floor walls etc) the 3rd would be you didn't build any walls on 2nd floor yet? ( you built Blank not Derived from 1st floor) *****Just looked at that tutorial and you have what was expected ....you ignored the 2nd floor , if you followed the Tut.? now you need to adjust the 2nd floor and get the ceiling and knee walls..... I did note in the Tut. that they Derived the 2nd floor , and didn't use a blank floor (like when doing a Cupola) as you said you did. edit : the Floor surfaces circled in Pic 2 only refer to the Flooring eg carpet/hardwood etc , not the Floor level. Mick.
  3. There are 20+ KB Articles/Tutorials on the Website for those that need more help with stairs as well http://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/category/71/0/10/Home-Designer/Stairs/ including 2 on how to create a stairwell/staircase ,which may explain it better than me http://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/article/KB-00420/71/Home-Designer/Stairs/How-to-Create-a-Staircase.html http://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/article/KB-00125/71/Home-Designer/Stairs/Creating-a-Stairwell-for-your-Staircase.html
  4. You can post your pics right here on the forum , instructions are earlier in the thread ---use the more reply options button instead of the post button below.. Does Suite have the Auto Stairwell icon on the edit toolbar when you select the stairs ? they are there just not cutting the floor hole if not add an invisible wall at the top end of the "stairwell room" near the garage interior door , then you will get a Room definition and you can the designate the Room "Open below" in the Room's DBX which should cut out the floor and reveal the stairs. 2nd floor stairwell should work/cut out as above too. Not sure if Suite uses the ALT key while clicking/dragging for drawing stairs down ?, I have Pro '10 so can't check that for you, might want to check the Reference Manual (PDF under the Help Menu). free form lines

yes the new versions came out on May 30th, so looks like you bought not too long before. is the black line around the corner of the house not the sidewalk ? do you mean you can't "bump" the side walk out around the AirCon, so you can walk around it? - The break-line tool should help accomplish that...break the sidewalk 3-4ft either side of the AirCon and drag that part out. Break-line doesn't work apparently (tried it) so just add another sidewalk next to the one drawn , and it will auto join the other straight piece. or - Put the AirCon on it own Slab ( SlabTool) and then draw the sidewalk upto and around the slab. So the mowing strip isn't to be parallel to and straight like the fence ? a more "organic" shape ? with flowerbeds? - Spline sidewalk tool is probably the best bet in that case ...it will draw a 3ft wide sidewalk by default I think ,but you can open its DBX and change that to 4 or 6" ? as needed ...... edit: this does work see pic.
  6. David is right about using GPS data , it REALLY slows things down , have a look at this Thread on ChiefTalk from a few months ago , you can post there too , some of the guys there are really good on this stuff. https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/1113-importing-csv-terrain-data/ If the file was badly converted like Tech Support said you probably need to convert it some other way assuming the Architect setup the DWG properly in the 1st place.
  7. Hmmm Keith .....Arch C is the MAX size Pro will Print (18x24) , so it should not have "needed persuading" , nor should it have been difficult except perhaps to find the right scale to fit your Office Block onto Arch C. which is where using Print Preview helps ,making sure "show drawing sheet" is checked on the Page setup DBX 1st and you may need to use the "Center Sheet" option on the Print tab too .You can select/highlight the "sheet" and move it onto the drawing too. Did you look at the PDF you have ? if I try to Print to 24x36 (arch d) it will do it EXCEPT it will be on 4 pages of 12x 18 not 1 page 24x36 so if you have found a way around the inbuilt limitation please let us know what you did.... if I set any paper bigger than 18x24 , it warns you to set it smaller and then it just wont print, even if you don't heed the warning. this is my current Print preview ,with the "paper" drag to the drawing Not sure if it is the same in 2014 but in Pro 10 the Printer Settings are NOT sticky ...at least for me , might be how win7 is handling my default printer ? I have to reset it each time I need it. M.

    free form lines

posting some pics of the issues might help , as I'm uncertain why a pad for an AirConditioner is causing an issue... turning snaps off and using the spline sidewalk tool should allow you to draw the mowing strip , though you may need to use the break line and arc tools to get it h ow you want as it still wont be a free form type line.
  10. 10/12 is steep enough for a Dormer , that's what I used above in my pics. which Tutorials are you following did you make the 2nd floor a "blank" floor when you built it ? (or derived from 1st floor? which won't work) did you designate the space around the Dormer "attic" per the tutorial? Mick.
  11. bit hard to tell but it looks like your garage floor is at the same height as the basement ? is that right? should it be? or is that the issue The main floor of the house ( level 1) should be 0" in the Room's/Floor's DBX (dialog box) , so the Basement floor should be 8 ft ? 9ft? what ever you made it when you Built the foundation so it's Floor height © will be -96" ( or - whatever height you made it) as everything is measured down from zero into the basement (ground) , so like the OP of this post your garage floor maybe 2-3 or even 4 ft below zero , which you have to set in the Garage Room's DBX under the structure tab , checkbox C Floor height. until you have the floor heights right your stairs won't build properly the better you can explain your issue or show pics the better I can help , sorry if this isn't helping much at this point.
  12. there is a video ....no# 2265 but to import xyz data you need to know what type of xyz data you have , open the import wizard and look, there are about 10 options http://video.homedesigner.chiefarchitect.com/?search=terrain Have you checked out the Reference Manual and Online Help ? M.
  13. Pics would help otherwise I'm (and others) are just guessing ..... looks like your Capslock key is on too.... Level 1 and the garage will show on level one but may not be the same height , you have to set the Room Heights similar to Post #14 , you can't download the plan as you don't have Pro so I don't think you can open it since you have Suite.
  14. He could Richard , Keith is from the Mother Country This is a deliberate crippling on HD Pro Keith , max. size you can Print too is 18"X24" or Architectural C - 18" x 24" (or Ansi C at 17"x22") http://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/article/KB-00539/181/Home-Designer/Printing/How-are-the-Architectural-and-ANSI-paper-sizes-different.html The Workaround is to print to PDF at 1/2 your normal scale , and then have the File printed at 200% at the Copy Shop to double the scale back up to the needed scaled. Note you are not printing at 18x24 for this... ie 1/8"=1' scale on 12x18 printed at 200% is 1/4=1' on 24X36 (Standard Arch.D Paper) Ansi sizes 1/8"=1' scale on 11x17 (ansi B ) printed at 200% is 1/4=1' on 22X34 (Standard Ansi D Paper) 2015 allows Printing direct to PDF but earlier versions need a PDF Printer Driver , usually PDF995 is with HD titles and works well , I use it for all sorts of Printing to PDF especially if emailing something . CutePDF is another free PDf Driver but it Adds other programs to your computer too , at least it did when I tried it several months ago , it added Comodo Dragon a web Browser and other crap, so I went back to PDF995 which shows a splash screen as it "prints" but is harmless other than that. http://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/article/KB-00484/181/Home-Designer/Printing/Generating-a-PDF-File.html you don't have to send to layout 1st , most views can be printed directly as can the whole page but if you are sending to layout , set the plan View window to Print Layout/Preview before sending it so you can see if it is going to fit on your page.....make sure "show drawing sheet" is checked in the Print DBX 1st. more info in this post I did a while back https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/1253-dimension-size-on-layout/#entry9849 There is a KB Article on printing to scale too, but on Imperial plans the default is 1/4=1' though that is often too big esp. if printing to 8.5x11 paper though I have started using 11x17 landscape (also called tabloid) which works better if your printer can handle it. this is then doubled to 22x34 if needed. https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/1253-dimension-size-on-layout/#entry9849 You can create different sized layout pages for different sized papers if need , just make sure your printer is setup 1st ( page setup) so it sends to the right size. hope this will get you started Mick.
  15. use the new plan in the post above . not the original which was messed up.... M.
  16. I am curious what you are trying to do as I can't tell from the image , it looks like a large area with roads etc not a House Lot Is it just as an image of the general location/neighbourhood ? then just drag the image file into the plan window, select it and resize it as needed. ( or use the import DBX and paste it into the plan from your Library if you want to save it for future use.) M.

    Balcony

While it isn't all that difficult for those of us who have done it before and know how the software works ( to some degree) not all the KB Articles are well written or cover things in enough depth , for example this KB Article does not tell you explicitly to be on Level 2 when you do your invisible wall ( or that it can be turned into a rail afterwards along the edge) , so a few extra tips for beginners maybe needed , was all I was thinking since the KB does not represent the "pretty picture" at it's top. Mick

    Balcony

You need to make (designate) the Open Area as Open Below (2nd floor) in the Room's DBX ,then the floor will be cut out and you'll have the two storey space in the front entry. Another name is Mezzanine for this type of look... Might be a KB Article on it ? save me some typing .....yep http://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/article/KB-00210/ ask again if that doesn't help Mick
  19. post some pics ,someone maybe able to give more advise I don't do terrain's much. hmmmm just tried the "step to terrain" setting on a test plan and "it" builds a weird box under the fence for some reason....possibly a "retaining wall" I think Step follow after I placed some trees in the plan I lowered the terrain from 12" to 82" and the fence and all trees followed the terrain down , even on the curved parts so I am not sure why yours are "floating" unless 2015 has a "bug" that Pro 10 doesn't
  20. check you Camera view display options...might be OFF

    Catalogues disappear

You are not the only one with this issue , it has been report numerous times over on ChiefTalk with the last version of Chief X6 including this week but it sounds like Tech Support can "find" them again so don't mess too much yourself with it in case you "break the repair" TS has...not sure if they are Open on Sat. though? see here https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/1549-just-opened-x6-on-my-mac-and-all-libraries-are-empty/
  23. more info in your other thread too Bob here: https://hometalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/188-hip-roof-with-turn-out/#entry1013
  24. Hi Bob , yep invisible walls work fine for this porch , after the Roof was built I added the four basement walls to the basement level and added a custom slab on top to make the Porch floor ( this hides/eliminates the existing floor if already designated a porch) UP on level one I added a couple of columns and the ceiling beams above..... Then the floating Dormers , but even though in Pro we can explode them to define the roof in the wall DBX none of the settings for Gulwing/Mansard/or Gambrel "Take" it seems ....not sure if it's a bug or not in Pro 10.... Roof stayed hip no matter my settings for upper and lower pitch. I'll post the plan if you need to look at it let me know.... Mick
  25. For that number of pages , it might work out cheaper to Print to PDF and have it printed at Kinkos or Staples etc. that way you can also print at 24x36 if needed by printing a PDF 12x18 at 1/8 scale , then having Kinkos print it at 200% on 24x36 which gives 1/4" scale.
