I think you are right Jo , that upper pitch is probably 10/12 , perhaps more from the photo ,good eye I cant tell if the dormer is gullwing or not? And yes Floating dormers can be exploded in Pro , just not sure if the gullwing "works" on Floating Dormers.... it's not one of the options but maybe ?

you don't need to pay for files off 3D warehouse they are Free ...... The file you have in Downloads is a .SKP (sketchup) which HD can import no problem (if the correct version) , but when you import>3D symbol HD wont "see" the .SKP file until you set the File Type in the search box to .SKP ( or whatever file type you are looking for) under "Files of the Type" using the dropdown box. Try attaching .jpegs or .png pics in you further posts , they show in the Post window unlike .bmp's and are way smaller in size too. M.

David is correct about how to alter roof heights but it sounds to me like you are trying to line up the Ridges in plan view not the ceiling/eave heights in elevation but like Elovia I see some problems with the South elevation. The ridges won't line up if the taller of the 3 extension buildings IS NOT centered on the existing building ( unless you vary wall heights) and I think what Elovia is seeing is actually the fact that the extension with the double doors is LOWER than the extension on the RH side ( with 2 windows) not the fact that the main building is taller on the left. (line up the two roofs/fascia's with the Wall Cross) The floor plan pic doesn't seem to match the other two views ? wrong end of the building perhaps? ie no double doors on LH side , the 2 windows on the RH side , whereas pic 2 has a single door on LH side and 3 windows and 2 roof planes not 3 like in the 3rd pic of the "South Elevation"... Panning with cursor keys has changed... is this just a setting?
Kbird1 replied to cobalt_greg's topic in Q&A
Hi Greg , yes I believe you can , I only have Pro 10 (2009?) and I have the settings I think you want, but suspect the default changed in Pro 2015 , it is on the 3D menu move camera with mouse or move camera with Arrow Keys -
I have a Canon Pro9000 MarkII which will do 13x19 but as you say it is a photo printer,so not the most economical as far as just printing text/lines perhaps there are laser units around which would be cheaper to run?

Room divider is new in 2015 , so Bob doesn't have that option , I would of used invisible walls like JoAnn to do this probably... but you have Pro too Bob,so you can use the ability to modify Roof Planes too to your advantage.... just remember that if you "rebuild the roof" you will lose any manual changes, so once you go manual stay manual for roof planes.

Hi . sorry was too rushed last night and didn't check my heights , looks like I typed 171" instead of 117" for my foundation so I pulled that file and added the stairs where you wanted them, the Plan is pretty rough , it's just so you can compare settings etc. Main floor is 0" Garage floor is -48" (this means garage walls will be 144-145" high so the top plate is the same height as the house walls) Basement floor is -109 1/2" If your garage slab is already built you may need to cut it back around the new basement stairwell foundation , I had to0 in both cases as the stairs didn't automatically cut the hole but were there.

yep I'd say Sketchup for a Radius'd wall like that ,perhaps look for a skatebard ramp on 3D warehouse 1st ? you can't change the Library shapes , only their sizes , so you cant eliminate the other half of say a cylinder. FYI Chief/HD doesn't do "leaning walls" either at this stage....

in the invisible porch wall's (2) DBX try setting them to "no Locate" and see if that works Ensure Auto rebuild roof is (still) off. M.

sounds like you may have clicked the line weight tool icon , I never use it either, looks like two circling arrows. you can also turn it off in Preferences
-
looks like you got it Bob Looks like a standard Floating Dormer so wont take too much to do You could probably modify some of those posts you used on the "Cupola Building last month to work for that. Mick

You are showing 5" and 12" JoAnn, with 60" in from baseline I am showing 3" and 6" ( suggested 4" and 8") and 30 in from baseline (48" total) but Bob is showing 8" and 6" and NO in from baseline so if he had a baseline measurement his lower roof would have a steeper pitch than the Upper Roof..... more like a Mansard Gambrel roof than a Gullwing.... M. Corrected roof type name

you don't say what version you are on in the post or your profile but I'm using Pro10 so any version after that will open that plan above.

took a guess and played around with it ..... have a look at the attached plan.... gotta say I am jealous a 57'x25' garage Edit File removed Bad floor heights
-
ok , next step ..... tell me what you are trying to do , where you are trying to place the stairs for the basement ?, I see ones upto kitchen from garage and ones down to basement off living room but no set in the basement up to the garage

use File>Export>Picture (Jpg) to take "snapshots" of your plan view and 3d camera views too , then attach them to a post by going to the "more Reply Options" after you click post and there is a button on the bottom left to Choose/attach files. once the file is uploaded make sure to "add it to the post" on the right hand side. ( you will see a link added to the post only then which shows up once you submit the post.

you haven't set the baseline distance where you want it to start , it is starting at the Ridge height which is why you cant see it.. decide how far inside the buildings walls you want it to start , as by default the baseline sits right on the framing layer, on the outside of the wall. so if you want it to start 4' up the roof , deduct your overhang , say 18" so your "in from Baseline would be 30" per the attached pic. usually the 1st pitch is lower than the upper , sometime 1/2 pitch on the lower eg if upper is 8/12 the lower would be 4/12

This is a End User Forum , so you are better off emailing Tech Support . they won't answer here as far as I know 10.8 or Mountain Lion is supported , not sure Snow leopard is ? http://www.homedesignersoftware.com/products/system-requirements.html

there are settings in your User Profile for being notified of posts, and if you use the more reply options button instead of the post button there is a check box if you want notification of posts too on the right. If you don't find answers to your questions on the HD KB , try the Chief Architect KB , some still apply to the HD titles such as the one on stairs on sloped terrain , though I aint sure if HDA has "stair landings" like Pro. http://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00547/150/Chief-Architect/Terrain/Creating-Stairs-in-Sloping-Terrain.html

These may help explain a few things too, from the Knowledge Base (KB) http://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/article/KB-00861/72/Home-Designer/Terrain/Understanding-How-the-Height-of-the-Floor-Relates-to-the-Height-of-the-Terrain.html http://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00574/150/Chief-Architect/Terrain/How-Chief-Architect-Interprets-Terrain-Lines.html

Sorry I didn't find this one sooner but perhaps it will help others in the future

Yep JoAnn is correct and it does work on all four walls , have a look at my pics on this thread from yest. about Dutch gables (which includes the gullwing or two pitch roof) https://hometalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/182-gable-not-at-end-of-roof/#entry925

yep looking good Keith This post has some good info on doing sections and elevations , exporting to DXF , and re-importing allows you to "clean up" all the extraneous lines that seem pretty common. it is also then easy to add insulation boxes etc from the CAD Menu. http://hometalk.homedesignersoftware.com/showthread.php?15537-Elevation-Cross-Section-switch-basement-off&highlight=cad+details KB Article here too which covers a lot ... http://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/article/KB-00439/261/Home-Designer/CAD/Creating-a-Cross-Section-Detail-in-Home-Designer-Pro.html

there are many sections in this plan as well

Try this : On the railing tab in the Fence's DBX make sure "follow terrain" or "Step to Terrain" is set , Step is most typical as the fence comes in 8' panels and the top needs to be level usually. open each trees DBX and see if the height above ground is zero remedy if not..... I think they "seek" the ground when you 1st place them but if you change something they don't change , so an alternative maybe to delete if not too many an just replace them.
