    chimney build

What did you use to make what you have now?
  2. A Shape from the Library, a Soffit, maybe a Cabinet.
  3. The proper way to do this is to create a new wall type with shiplap on the inside.
  4. You have managed to make quite a mess during your first week No one can help unless you attach the plan file. Zip if needed -- 14MB size limit, and close the software first.
  5. You need the Mac version of the program. Find it in your Digital Locker.
  6. It's difficult to offer suggestions without understanding what walls are causing the problems, and what the correct plan looks like. One trick that sometimes works is to draw a perpendicular Room divider at the end of a wall. The wall will join to the Room Divider.
  7. You probably turned off Walls, Layers, and turned on Walls, Main Layer Only. Flip those settings and see what happens.
  8. Reread David's comment.
  9. It depends on exactly what you are doing -- what view and how the camera is set up. This is a white background and white terrain. I left the skirt green. There is a 96" foundation wall.

    Plaster and Lath

If you want to account for the thickness of plaster and lath in your wall definition, just add 2 new materials and remove the drywall. No gimmick required. You will probably need to create two materials. I'd copy and rename the drywall material for the plaster, and copy and rename a wood material for the lath. The program is like a box of tools. If you need a 2x3 and all you have are 2x4, you reach into the toolbox, pull out a saw and rip it down.
  11. There isn't an automated way to make the railing stop. Using a railing wall, you can stop the wall where the railing starts to protrude.
  12. I would experiment with turning off the stair railings and use a railing wall (pony wall with railing on top) set to follow stairs.
  13. Unsure what you are asking, but maybe Print>Drawing Sheet Setup
  14. The directory you are writing to is probably protected -- marked Read Only or similar. Remove that and you should be OK.
  15. You need to add it to your template plan. Search Tips or my YouTube channel for details.

    Awkward Staircase

Landings will pick up the Open Underneath setting of stairs they connect to. Break the stair section using a Complete Break. Adjust the sections as needed. Are you drawing them on the first or second floor? Should be first.
  17. I was referring to you cannot choose where the header goes. It always is placed just above the window. Some builders like it always placed up against the top plates, which is an option in Chief, but not in Home Designer. Of course you need to rebuild, or have auto rebuild framing on to see changes.
