practice is how you learn start with simple square house hip and gable roofs. Then learn how to add dormers int he various methods software gives you. Then start getting complicated - learn manual roof planes and how to edit roofplanes. If yo uhave less then PRO not much you can learn as it is all automated which I find tedious since you have to figure out work arounds when it would be simpler to just edit roof planes manually

not sure what version you are using... but in 2025 pro.. Click on wall and thenc lick edit icon thingy.. Then go to wall type and in middle of page is PONY Wall check box.. CLick it and the lower wall portion allows you to edit it now.. SO edit upper and lower and click done

Never seen elliptical stairs always squared or just spiral... I bet they look interesting. good luck with home and plans

Small Question not germane to your drawing issue but I am curious How will this get built? And is this design comfortable to use and practical for getting to next floor? It is Interesting but as I have found if something is hard to draw it can be even harder to build and impractical. Also not sure it would be a comfortable climb since it is elliptical. Each tread depth is different and well if you have ever walked up funky stairs with different tread depth; I find it uncomfortable and I look for handrail to keep from falling. If this was my house I would try to test this out before I committed to this design. I am sure it will be pretty, especially if make from some fine wood but I dunno.. Just curious if you have thought this thru.

How to sit rafters on the floor joist on 2nd floor?
y-g-m-n replied to StillwaterConst's topic in Q&A
How will this floor and roof be framed? (not what the program thinks but what your framing crew will do.) Never seen rafters sitting on floor joists as their spacing and start points are different. Try the option of hanging second floor on wall OR cheat program by setting 2nd floor ceiling height to is 3" (2 top plates on top of joists) and uncheck FLAT CEILING OVER room so it vaults ceiling using underside of rafters.- 3 replies

copy terrain into house plan? Can terrain be combined into Arch Block and then saved to library and then you can insert it into any plan like a library item. Then explode it back from block into pars.

what are variables of room structure below? looks like ceiling plane for room below that has flat roof turned off so it is trying o put ceiling under the next roof plane and parallel to it. -
Depends on contractor and subs they hire. Talk to them and ask before you get to far. Most like feet and whole inches for framing but they should be able to handle fractions. Question is how accurate will they be? And what happens when they are off? like will cabinets still fit? the alcove apron bathtub gonna fit or is their too large a gap? So make sure your design has some ability to adjust for errors in framing and sometimes Wallboard peeps put the mud on heavy. example would be cabinets placed between 2 side walls. Make sure you have a bit more inside width between wall board and overall cabinet width. remember if purchased cabinets they can get filler strips- I like to ensure 1.5" space on each end for filler strips that can be cut to match wall and give spce for cabinet doors to open fully without pulls or knobs hitting wall.

Not sure I have ever seen one nor how it would work. OR I do not understand what you mean by PANE? To me pane is each door panel?? so 3 pane on each side would start with first pane pinned to door jamb area and swing out into room Second panel would pin to the first panel end in room and go back to door jamb and pin to track on top as minimum So then the Third would pin to this second panel @ the track and what happens to other end it would need to go into room but has nothing to support. It would flop in the breeze so to speak. GOt any manufacturer info on this type of door?

just draw walls around kitchen, add doors, door ways etc. Then maybe use the ROOM DIVIDER wall type to enclose off space so you can have a room and then have floors and ceiling. All depends on your kitchen. But you do not need to draw entire house. I know as I am checking on ways to redo a bathroom so I just drew the bathroom walls.

add lot to house plan. Make a few copies by SAVEAS command. Then in each copy move and rotate lot info to get the different looks you want. Or rotate and move house - but when done Grabe everything and rotate so front of house is pointing DOWN in plan view.

can you upload plan file? Have you messed with terrain?

Trouble Importing Layers from DWG File into Home Designer Pro 2021
y-g-m-n replied to BeginnerMorle's topic in Q&A
IF you google and look on interweb you can find freeware that can edit DWG. I would edit it in DWG to what you want and then import to HD. OR I am unsure but maybe import it nto SKetchup and then edit and save and then import back into HD. SKetchup files tend to have the bits where you can change materials of items within parts 3d model. -
you would need to also look at whats new 2024 since you skipped that one. From 2023 to 2025 - yes lots of new features I would say are worthy of the change if you use program. I found just the features they added to doors, windows and cabinets worth it. but from 2024 to 2025 - not sure it is worth it for 5 or 6 things you could live without - seems more like an Update then an upgrade. But we all use the program differently and have different needs so do as stated about try the trial.

Yeah I have this issue sometimes and can never figure it out. Happens a lot if you have brick exterior walls too. For me sometimes when in a 3d view the entire door will be stuck ina sort of concrete wall mix as you can see concrete up in opening. Personally I think it is due to garage floor being lower and the program well does not handle slabs well. Always have issues with brick ledge on corners where it meets a different exterior wall material. Or say have a opening like patio. I guess they do not do many monolithic slabs in Idaho and just do not get how we mke them here in South where they just sit on ground since we do not have freeze line. Also try adding a second story when you have slab - it does not let you have proper framing of joists with 3/4" sheathing on top - thinks you use slab for second floor. All I can say is try moving side to side, manually editing foundation after it is created. play with garage door casing and jambs and position with respect to wall. Another issue as most garage doors front face is is flush with interior wall surface - recessed into wall. Program does not like that either. Save model close software reopen try again I never figure out how I fix it because I get so frustrated I move on and come back to it and sometimes it seems to fix itself. but it is a GLITCH for sure. What they need is more Slab editing tools so you can cut your own cutout, make your own brick ledge and decide for yourself how wide and deep it is. areas where you can cut out and sunken slab levels or raised, holes in slab for shower/tub drains, info on anchor bolts. And do not think to try post-tension slab or slab poured over pilings driven in the swampy muck. Send some of them programmers down here and watch a slab being formed up and poured. maybe that time of year where I send in questions about slab problems again.

not a lot of upgrades over 2024 IMHO. Could have had more

ask the forum for help. seems like you did something incorrectly in your plan so when you added or changed something else it changed something else probably due to all the automatic functions. your issues do not seem to be software related but more how you created your plan.
