version 9 of what? Try saving the file as a version 7 sketchup file ,compatibility may depend on the version of .skp ,and I think it was 7 back then. you can download the latest 2016 HDA or Pro free Trial and try it for yourself to see if the upgrade is worth it. or attach the .skp file so someone can try it perhaps for you.

How can I force HDP 2016 to show exterior dimensions on exterior walls?
Kbird1 replied to Don_Anderson's topic in Q&A
The measurements you are seeing are the temporary dims in that pic which you can toggle on or off ,they don't always match the wall lengths as it depends on how they are setup to locate items You can edit many Defaults via EDIT>Default settings...... for Dims goto >Dimension>Dimension>LocateObjects (Defaults are also the wrench icon ,under the 3D menu item) I recommend downloading the Reference Manual PDF linked on the HELP menu too and reading up on Dimensions.( I prefer the PDF to the online help) and how to assign the dimension layer if needed in the Wall's Definition DBX. The best way to do your walls , is as you draw them , but now, leave things unconnected and start in the bottom LH corner and make the single garage door wall 10' , open the wall and in the DBX ( forum slang for dialog box) make it's length 120" or 10' on the General tab. HD will accept measurements in either " or ' ,it converts them auto to the default, even decimal inch or feet ie 3.75" is 3 3/4" automatically. Now if needed move the next wall so it auto joins on the corner again ,then open it and input the correct length (23' 5 1/2") and so on all the way around , next wall should be 10ft too etc etc. And hopefully it will join up on the last 2' wall when done. hope this will get you to the next step, M. -
The knowledge base is also very helpful and has many good tutorials ,here is the window category: http://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/category/107/0/10/Home-Designer/Windows/ The online videos may help too http://video.homedesigner.chiefarchitect.com/?product=4 PS if you bought 2015 in the last 30 days ,don't forget to get your free upgrade to 2016. https://hometalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/879-current-version-guarantee/

5 levels in 2015-16 , 3 levels in older versions I believe plus the attic and Foundation. M. please fill in your forum sig, so we know what Title and year you are using, thanks, see mine below.

I'd say DJP hit the nail on the head above , unless it is a new bug in 2016 versions... M.

Wow , that's a 1st..... Thx DJP , couldn't agree more.... M.

Pics look fine , when you take them, zooming the view in as close as possible so we can see the details is always better. Looks like you are missing your attic walls , do you have them turned on in Display Options? or did you delete them or ???? You are after a CapeCod right? not a two story ? did you check the ignore 2nd storey box? did you miss a step in the Tutorial? You can attach your Plan file to the thread ,just like you did the Pics , if you want someone to look at it for you M.

In Edit >Default settings>Plan there is a check box (3rd one) to allow Chief users to enable editing of the Chief plan in HD Titles Sorry DBX is Forum Slang for Dialog Box --- the Plan Defaults can also be accessed via the Wrench icon ---if version 10 has it? otherwise as above. Preferences are at EDIT>Preferences> or the icon with the P and two small circles next to the P , then under General>File Management , look for Thumbnail Images ,check box for on and choose small or large as needed. I think it might be time to use your Reference Manual or the online help to look this stuff up and get an indepth knowledge of the settings, if you have forgotten a lot of this since using V10 way back when , especially since I am unsure if my advice even pertains to V10. Some other things I noticed garage door openers are 89 1/2" above the ceiling instead of the floor... no foundation under garage area---rebuild it Driveway Slab is at default height you need to lower it to 0" ( I don't know why Chief always places them at 12" but it does...still) adding the terrain should allow you to set the true heights of other exterior objects ,eg the stairs on the back deck. I assume you haven't built the roof yet for a reason ?

As far as I am aware it works exactly the same on Mac as it does in windows with a couple of limitations Due to MAC OS ie you can't import .skp files from Sketchup but you can import .dae files. The 2016 versions of Home Designer titles were released today , so your timing is good. Forum User Warrenwest is using Mac OS so hopefully he sees your thread , or you could try PM him too. HD Pro does not do Photo Realistic Renderings if that is a goal , only Chief Titles are capable of that , it does do standard Renderings and Walkthrough though. I would just download the free trial version and play around with any features ,ask some questions and see if its for you. the main library downloads fairly quickly , but there are also many free libraries to choose and install as needed , but you do need the internet for that. You can download everything while you have access and just install libraries as needed though. Pro and Chief (maybe all Titles now?) need to have access to the internet at least every 2 weeks to sign into the security server , Chief can use a hardware lock though if needed ($60 USB key) but Pro doesn't have that capability AFAIK. So you don't need to be connected 24/7 to use Pro , and as long as you get a connect ever 14 days to "call home" you will be fine, otherwise the Program won't open. (BTDT ) M. EDIT : Pro maybe able to use the hardware lock but it isn't available under MacOS ..... no drivers. http://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/category/202/0/10/Home-Designer/Security-Hardware-Locks/

There are several Tutorials in the KB that may help, though I am not sure what is possible in Essentials http://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/article/KB-00140/ http://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/article/KB-00932/147/Home-Designer/Rooms/Creating-a-Split-Level-Structure.html

- it looks like you maybe using Print View rather than Print - your Paper setup in the 3rd pic doesn't match the paper size in the other two pics ie letter vs tabloid You don't state what Home Designer title or its year that you are using either , this information is need to answer many questions here , so please fill in your Profile's signature , (see mine below) , thanks

I can't edit the Plan on my netbook Kevin as you didn't enable the option to let Home Designer titles to edit the plan ,( in the Plan Defaults DBX ), so I can look only today ( no Chief X6) but it appears to me that you have placed numerous objects outside your house but didn't build the Terrain after you built the foundation , ie I don't see a green rectangle for the TP (Terrain Perimeter) in Plan view and no grass in Full overview , so I don't think you have a Terrain. TIp: while in Plan view , in Display Options uncheck labels for Electrical ,Windows and Doors , it will clean things up temporally and make it less cluttered to work.

Yes the thumbnail can be turned off or be set to small or large in the Preferences DBX, the jpg is used , if available, for the Open/New Plan DBX Preview Have a look at my signature Kev , there is a link to a "how to" on taking Pics for posting here , you are right the one above is really tiny and unviewable at least om my end. This is the Cape Cod Tutorial : http://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/article/KB-00358/52/Home-Designer/Roofs/Automatically-Building-a-One-and-a-Half-Story-Roof.html Post the Plan Platzie ,see my sig for a link to a "How To" Post yes for a Cape Cod you need the automatic walls in the Attic (A) level at each gable end , but id you need to delete a whole level in Pro you can do that via Build>Floor>Delete floor , just make sure you are on the Floor Level you want to delete before doing it. it may have something to do with you building a foundation at level 3 previously. M.

Kevin , you are on the Hometalk Forum here (blue Theme vs ChiefTalk with its green Theme) , though I am not clear on what version of the software you are using now? chief premier 10.04 was updated to 10.08 years ago as Kat noted above though. See my signature , might be best to fill yours in and post pics of your issues or the .plan file too M.

Nice Work Jo David Michael has been giving away symbols for years in his free collection he also has a Paid Collection with a $30 life time fee which is more extensive ,but you might get lucky, some are older so work in version even as old as V.10. ( he also has many symbols on the Legacy Chief Symbols Forum , if you have access) here: http://www.davidmichaeldesigns.com/free.html

A wall can be reversed with the Reverse Wall Layers Icon on the Edit Toolbar too With Exterior Walls it is important to Draw in a Clockwise fashion to always orientate the Exterior of the wall to the Outside ,OTOH if it's easier to draw anti-clockwise , then do it , and hit the Reverse Icon immediately. Another Tip : If you select a wall the large edit Handle in the centre of the wall will be over what HD "thinks" is the exterior side of the wall. M.

If you want sqft's for the Plan you can do it per post no#3 by adding the Coats of paint to the Wall Layers , you have to do both Interior and exterior Walls , this can work ok if the majority of the house is the same colour , feature walls or rooms can then be done as Max suggested. When changing Drywall "colours" , depending on what you need you may want to make new Drywall SIZES too as the Default Drywall is a 4x8 sheet , and that is what the ML uses unless you specify otherwise , it does not automatically add 10' and 12' Drywall sheets to a 10'x12' bedroom for example as would be done ITRW ( or a true estimating program.) there are 12' sheets in the library but no 10' sheets , so I copied the 12' library to my User Library and changed the 144" lengths to 120" and renamed them. Of course this would be a bit tedious to do for an entire house (specifying material for every wall) but with the ML you only get exactly what you model, as the ML isn't "intelligent" that way. M.

single door only? does the Clopay or Amarr Garage Door Libraries not have a ready made garage Carriage Door? M.

I've been doing this for about 4-5 yrs, (works in versions other than Pro too) and never had an issue , the .dat file is just a plain text file , no hex editors or anything fancy required, and works well once you figure out the syntax. The C:\Programs\XXXX\XXXX\ Templates Folder IS the full backup for the MyDocs\XXXX\XXXX\Data\Templates Folder so if anything goes wrong with the Data\Templates Folder Files , HD/Chief can "repair" itself if needed, if something becomes corrupted without a full reinstall. The XXXX_p.jpg file is actually the Thumbnail image HD and Chief auto makes if you have Thumbnails on in the Preferences. Do you have hidden files and folders on in Windows Jeff , trying to think of why you are not getting access to the file , unless it has been write protected ( read only) in the 2015 version? or has the "system" attribute so is protected?
