Keith , all your staircase cases have a few issues , it is imperative that staircases are exactly the the same width as the landing they join too , otherwise you need to break that edge of the Landing at the point the staircase meets the landing , otherwise they wont join and become one cohesive Unit. The 1st staircase Landing is actually in the wall if you zoom in and look , so it won't join the staircases even if they are the same width, as the don't line up. the staircase in the middle has the similar issues actually. you also have two different Oak's in the plan , not sure if the mix of materials is deliberate ? ........you have Oak and Oak (Honey) on the same staircase The single staircase on the left in pic below , had Birch materials and FP Plank flooring for the Treads.... Have a good weekend... M.

It looks like your Oatmeal Tile was setup on the foundation level Keith , you have 300mm thick Oatmeal tile there instead of Concrete , so I switched that back to default concrete in each room. It is this level that gives you your concrete floor where you need them ...ie set Room on level one to have NO floor finish. I then found most rooms on level 1 had no Floor finish designated , so 1st I went into the default>Rooms and set the Normal Room to have your natural oak planking , then in Bath/kitchens Room default, I set the Oatmeal tile as the floor Finish . Then I had to go to each Room and Turn on Floor Finish on the Structure Tab by clicking the Default box and hitting ok. In those rooms you want tile not the Oak , designate them Bath/Kitchen Rooms and turn off the label as well . ( you already set default Bath/ kitchen rooms to Oatmeal tile above , so use default button again on structure Tab.) hopefully I didn't miss a step....

Right click on Camera in Plan View >open object>rename as desired ....I think....if Pro allows...
-
my guess would be with the other issues in the plan HD is just a bit confused...
-
don't know about the wall issue but you may have pushed a HotKey by accident , if you didn't change the Edit mode deliberately?
-
in my dollhouse view the Landing is sitting on the floor ...so it is a bad connection issue at least partially... What version are you using Jo ? on the Room DBX>Materials I don't even have a Floor Option On the structure Tab , structure is greyed out and floor finish is 0mm....at least in the big room on the south end ( next to room with table and chairs... still looking

Easiest way to show "before" and "after" in a plan?
Kbird1 replied to caboosesw's topic in Tips & Techniques
One way.... draw up the existing house , then do a "save as" with and add an extra name like _Option1 or _Rev.1 (-9) to the Name, than you'll have a few backups of the plan ( if it all goes pear shaped) and a few to change till your/Her heart is content , once narrowed down, do another "Save As" with a new name extended name like _Final . I usually have _Existing _Proposed _Final Files in my Project Folder , along with a back up of each just incase....ie add _BU to end of each name. M. -
but you didn't post it ? so I can't help.....

Only certain things are "Blockable" for those items not blockable ( no icon) you are correct in your statement : "have to create and save to a specific plan sheet and then have them all together and then copy and paste when needed." I think there should be an easier way to do this or maybe I'm wrong. There is in CA but not in Pro
-
it is showing you , you are in a certain edit mode ...concentric I think , rather than the default mode , reset it here
-
FYI....It has never been a good idea in CA or HD , to use the "Painting Tools", especially extensively, it seems to cause a number of weird issues, it is much better if at all possible to use the Wall definition or the Wall's own DBX to change the material there. M

best to post the plan Keith , yours are always pretty complicated with lots to check on the staircase I would guess that it isn't correctly connected to the rest of the staircase but should be able to be changed manually? Did you use the Room Def. >Structure Tab>Floor Finish>edit or the Room Type ? (and default settings) to change the Flooring ?

after you select the file be sure to hit the attach button , you will then see an "add to post link" also make sure the plan is NOT open in HD or it wont upload.

not good I guess bit frustrating no doubt, but I still wasn't sure what you were trying to change to change from the pics . the two sides of the fireplace to stone ( that you can't really see in the pics ) or the Wainscotting on the left wall to the other wall ? there is also an article on doing wainscoting in the KB too http://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/article/KB-00075/33/Home-Designer/Walls/Changing-the-Wall-Material-Below-a-Chair-Rail.html

While you can't lock objects in place as David said , if you mean you are accidently selecting Objects and moving them by accident ,they can be locked so you can't select them (only) in Display Options. M
-
I think you are going to need to explain what you are trying to do or provide some pics of the issue as there are different ways to change a Wall's material , ie in the Wall's DBX , the Material Painter etc.
-
Phew....I have a pretty "dry" sense of humour , sometimes others just "don't get it" M.
-
yes I'd try putting the railing walls right over the Porch walls and make sure you assign Balcony to the second floor Room you could also turn off the roof in the Porch below If you attach the plan Jo or I or someone can have a look for you. M.
-
now you are just showing off So you gonna post the plan or just keep teasing him ....?
-
Nice , as usual Jo...... Custom Counters will allow you to insert a Tub Kenny while neither Slabs or Soffits will. M.

be sure to get the 32bit version if you try it wpawpa

it would be best to confirm with Customer Support at the 1-800# https://www.homedesignersoftware.com/company/contact.html but my guess would be that it just will be slow in 3D , but would depend on the model (house) and how detailed it is. You can't get 2015 titles now so you would get 2016 if purchased online now.

I don't think Pro had Solids Subtraction ? so you would need to build it to the shape you need assuming you aren't just trying to make a deck to drop a Tub into? this is the common way to do things like this http://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-01264/ lots of good info on both KB's actually for all your questions and always a good place to start. http://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/database.html http://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/database.html

it appears you have turned on many things in Display Options while in the Framing view , turn them back off ...eg Roof Planes , Terrain Perm. , Retaining Walls? Usually the foundation is on , if built too it's usually a good idea to post the Plan file if you have weird issues going on , there are just too many things to check and it's a good idea to Fill in you Forum Profile Signature so people will always know what software you have , as that is very pertinent to many answers , as all 5 versions have different options/features.
