Open "Edit - Default Settings - Floors and Rooms - First floor Defaults" then uncheck "Default" by the ceiling finish input box. Unchecking "Default" then allows you to change that value to whatever you wish. DJP

In Windows: My Documents/Home Designer XXX/Archives is where to look for your archive.plan files. I am unfamiliar with Mac's. The software automatically saves copies of all plan files you create on a computer, take a look. DJP

If you have Suite or Architectural, NO but if you have Home Designer Pro: YES. In Pro you can edit/alter individual roof planes, in Suite and Architectural you can't. DJP

Really, to do what you wish with greater freedom and support you will need to upgrade to Chief Architect Premier IMHO. However, you might be able to do something close using the custom backsplash tool by thinking out of the box. DJP

The software is programmed in certain ways which creates some rather arbitrary situations. Part of learning the software is learning by trial and error what works and what does not. I am not sure but it probably lies in how you created your custom wall types and their layers. I have never heard of this being a problem in thirty years until your post. Such error messages are merely annoying and unimportant, you can check "Do not show me this message again during this session each time it appears and just drive on. I would not spend much time on that, the important thing is to obtain your product! DJP

Draw the roof plan on the right while in the First Floor plan view, set the pitch in the build roof dialog first, then make sure the first floor ceiling heights match your target height before creating, manually the roof plane. Only after it is drawn correctly would you then raise the ceiling of the first floor AFTER it was created. The roof plane on the Left appears to not bear exactly on the top plate of the second floor, so you may have to also manually raise that roof plane's baseline height until you obtain the geometry you desire. You designated the first floor walls as "Foundation" walls, and created NOTHING on "Floor Zero". The foundation shows in camera views because you created the foundation on the first floor and it IS there in plan view and camera views, you created NOTHING on Floor Zero and that is why you see nothing in plan view on Floor Zero. DJP

Post a copy of your plan, and I will look and report, if you wish. DJP

Open the Room Specification Dialog-Structure Tab and make sure "has floor" checked and also make sure that the "Floor Material" is not set to zero inches (that equals "no floor" visible) DJP

Go to the Attic <A> level, turn on the Floor reference display, so you can see the first floor walls highlighted in RED, then manually draw in the missing gable walls, manually marking then as "Attic Walls, No Locate and No Room Define". Home Designer only automatically adds such walls ONLY if there is a corresponding first floor wall already. That is why you have to add the missing walls manually. DJP

Materials, visually speaking are emulated using image texture files, so if you replace a material with a color it replaced the texture with a flat color. What you need to then do is replace (put back in place) the texture you wish and then using the "Define Material Definition" tool (tri color icon) you select the material you wish to alter and change its default color with the shade you wish to alter it with, then go to the "Texture Tab" and check the check box that says "Blend with Texture" to then custom adjust the appearance of the material, visually.
