Using "Auto Build Roofs" is fine for simple roof lines but for anything past that you MUST learn the manual roof tools as well. I commonly set up for Auto Roofs as a start (if any of your walls are not properly connected can cause Auto Roofs to fail. Another cause can be changing ceiling heights BEFORE building Auto Roofs (ceiling heights will modulate the plate heights of roof planes-that is fine if that is what you want but I often build roofs and only then alter ceiling heights of rooms, it just depends upon what you intend to do. On the walls that are defined by the roof planes you will need to set those walls ON the roof plane edges and set the walls to "Roof Cuts Wall at Bottom" on the wall's Roof Tab of its Spec Dialog. DJP

In the "Room Specification Dialog box-Structure Tab-Floor Finish is probably marked "zero inches". That is could be causing there to be no visible floor. Another possible cause is in checking the "Room Specification Dialog box-Structure Tab-Floor Structure-Floor Supplied by floor below", such selected choices can cause there to be no visible floor. A dormer does not have a "Material Tab" so what can be done is to create a camera view (full or overview), then using the "Material Spray Can" tool select the roofing material you wish and then apply it to the dormer roofs and ridge trim. Or you can "explode" the dormer symbol into its parts and then the roof planes of the dormer can then be accessed using the dormer roof plane dialog-Materials Tab like any other roof plane. DJP

Home Designer comes with an 8" CMU block material. You can use that 8" CMU block material to then save-as/rename and reconfigure the default material to create new versions of that material. Those will be stored in the ".plan" file you created them in, you then should export them from that ".plan" file and then reimport them into your Library Browser for future use, so you do not have to make them over and over again. What software version and title are you using? Easy in Pro, harder to do in Suite and Architectural. DJP

The reason I said what I said is due to the shed dormer's ridge and the main house ridge are colinear. The dormer tool can only place a dormer within the perimeter of a parent-containing roof plane, I suppose you could get close but not duplicate the dormer in your photo in Architectural or Suite but it would have to be done carefully. DJP

Go to "Edit - Default Settings - Dormer" and set the settings to assist your outcome. The dormer in your photo cannot be done in Architectural, I believe you would have to upgrade to Pro and learn its manual roof tools. Sorry. DJP

Yes, your User Catalog is located in C/My Documents/Home Designerxxx/Libraries/User Library. You can copy paste that file from its old location to the new location of HD Pro 2024 DJP

"Surface Count" is NOT caused by associated material images. It is caused by objects in your plan file that contain too many "Three D Faces" (that is where "Face Count" comes from). The most common cause is importing Sketch Up symbols that did not go through the Quality Control process that Home Designer symbols go through. Sure, 3D Warehouse symbols are free but often come with a "price" of too many 3D Faces, did you use any of those? Otherwise it could come from too much detail in your .plan file, too many symbols with rounded edges. The above are more likely perpetrators than material textures. DJP
