  1. There is info in that video in the Dalton Series on Youtube from minutes 46-53 approx. if you need more help on getting the ceiling plan ready to install scissor trusses. lots of good info in the whole series actually if you are new to the Pro Software...... (as its for Chief and other titles don't have those features) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cg2pE7i0uws&list=PL7J4ch5cuz99sgM_U8L6lGYMIXl28Hm0B&index=2
  2. "But the second floor already exists above the house area as bedrooms, baths, laundry, hallway. So I cannot add a second floor where one already exists" That's why I said to draw your own 5 walls in ..................... as per pic you could also do something like
  3. Hi , sorry to hear that , hopefully Property was the only thing hurt, so it's a total rebuild? That will be a massive looking Roof and it seems to me you would loss a lot of space out at each end ,you have the possibility of a lot more room for the family there , by making the 2nd storey over the garage Full height , and using a 1/2 pitch roof off each side (4/12 not 8/12 like house) to get something like just draw the 5 walls over the automatic Attic walls to eliminate them on the 2nd floor
  4. HI Ling , can you post the plan , I can't tell from your pics what the issue is as I can't tell what is the extension and what is original etc. ( no text notes/labels etc) Thx. don't forget you profile sig. what version you have is important when it comes to Roof work , only pro has manual...if you need it.

    dormer

If they are true Dormers , Jo_Ann's method works , (see Pic) , if they are really floating Dormers ( no walls in room) then Jo will have to advise what HDA is capable of , or what the workaround is since she has HDA.
  6. Did you mark the walls of the Prow Full Gable , instead of High Shed/Full Gable ? been a while since I did one but I think that was the trick
  7. I'm with Eric Ed , in weird case like this , posting the plan is the quickest way to get an answer. you could try rebuilding the framing ,so it updates , incase it hasn't yet around that window. ( which will remove the OSB too)
  8. More like 6-10 rooms ,damn that is a big garage you don't have any exteriors walls over the garage, so you wont get a room definition and hence no roof (except off 1st flr) and you can't make walls or rooms in there. Not sure what you want but I drew the 5 walls in clockwise on the 2nd floor as a test and got this If you don't want the Roof to change , turn off auto rebuild ( it's on) before you do your walls as above.... I'm thinking Dance Hall now
  9. excellent advice..... I deleted the errant plane then drew my own and used the Join tool , 1st join wasn't so nice , so rejoined the same edges and all looks good. I also had to rejoin the Roof planes on the outside when I was done. I straightened the bathroom wall and rejoined those ceiling planes too, It went fairly well with no major dilemma's so I must be in the "Lucky zone" this afternoon as Eric mentioned. One other tip..... set the Ceiling planes to "Use Room Finish" to get a nice join otherwise the 1/2 drywall may show it's thickness at the join. Strange thing after doing this ,the 3D view looked good but the Plan view didn't , so I had to rejoin it again (3rd time?) the gable view x2 with gable ceiling removed_Mick.plan Mick.

that's great , they added a whole new section to the KB , so thanks for reporting it , I see you now have to go in where I said above and add it in if needed. I opened the default profile.plan in Chief which I never use as I have my own Template , and these are the settings there
  11. Ok, looking at your pic , I thought you were talking about the small gable roof off one side , there is only one gable right? Perhaps post your latest plan, no point me looking at Eric's as I did it same as him 1st time around.

Do you have Edit-defaults_text_text styles? there should be options in there too. Not at my computer this morning, but post the plan, and i'll look later Plan wasn't started in an older version was it? If you can it might be an idea to call the 1-800# Support no#, before the weekend.
  13. did you break the wall where you want the vault and set the wall to full gable ? the rest the program will do Auto...that's the easy part ....the other side where it is flat is the tricky part if the gable vault has a window you can even use the gable over window Tool and it will do it auto too. you may not be able to edit this , just so you see what I mean...I didn't do your flat area just the gable ,using both methods above. Sample roof plan.plan
  14. no need , the drywall inside attics is an old issue however if it's not that "Please add your Version no# and title to your Signature , if you haven't already, as many answers require this information."
  15. check the thread above and you will see how Jo_Ann did it in that plan ,she even posted here files to check out eg here https://hometalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/994-cant-get-this-roof-right-for-the-life-of-me/#entry5716 or here https://hometalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/994-cant-get-this-roof-right-for-the-life-of-me/page-3#entry5850
  16. @ Eric you should try Jing , free 2GB account ,and it works well. (SnagIt is the paid version) https://www.techsmith.com/jing.html I got the new CA Newsletter yesterday and there is a link to a new plan on the Samples webpage called the Dalton Remodel , and looking at the PDF it shows trusses like yours in this plan , I have not looked at all 5 Videos to see how it was done though. http://www.chiefarchitect.com/products/samples.html edit : There is info in this video in the series above from minutes 46-53 approx. . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cg2pE7i0uws&list=PL7J4ch5cuz99sgM_U8L6lGYMIXl28Hm0B&index=2
  17. I think you will find it is cos Automatic Attic walls take their definition from the wall below , so you have drywall in the attic even though you can't see it, you can always change the Wall definition/type if needed to eliminate it.

I have 2016 trial and don't see Plot Plan there , I also have X7 and it's not there either , maybe it was in 2014 (x5) or something? I just followed the tut. and Contour lines was the closest text style to a Plot line so I just changed to that for the default text style for the CAD-Default Layer, the drop down no longer looks like the Tut. pic though ,there are perhaps 15 choices now as text styles came in with 2015/x6.
  19. you will need to explain more , your pic is really small but I see a shed roof over a porch ,which seems correct...

You should let them know the Tutorial is wrong (done in a different version? perhaps Chief?) so they can fix it in the mean time select the Contour Line style instead , and then go to Default >text styles>Contour line style>edit and perhaps double the text size
  21. if you still have AHD 9 ? on your old PC you can export the libraries and then import them on the new PC from a USB stick . If you have the old PC still then perhaps you have the Libraries still from when you downloaded them ?
  22. there is a quirk with Pro , if you make the overhang too wide on a gambrel it does weird things to the walls , we found issues in that other thread I posted above about that, not sure if that is what you have run into or not. It is always a good idea to get a finished structure 1st . ie all your walls/floors/foundation etc done (and correct) , then do your roof , then your Terrain / or interior ,with things like cabinets/furniture etc. if your walls are right , it is more likely the Roof will build correctly as walls control the roof style in the Walls Roof DBX , however Roofs/ceilings control walls as far as heights ie setting the Room ceiling height ,controls the wall height ,which is where the roof builds from. (as a general rule ,in Pro you can alter settings in the roof plane dbx if needed too) M.

if you can't find out the data type , do you know the file type? .csv? .gpx ,dxf ? etc?, http://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-01078/150/Chief-Architect/Terrain/Using-Real-World-Elevation-Data-to-Create-a-Terrain.html dxf/dwg http://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00719/150/Chief-Architect/Terrain/Importing-Terrain-Elevation-Data-from-a-dxf-or-dwg-File.html with .csv you would just have to try it with different settings I think until it came in correctly ( use a new blank plan to test), if the file contains lots of Elevation point data it will slow Pro down in 3D views ,some tips https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/1113-importing-csv-terrain-data/ if you don't need all the topo data and if you have a printed copy , it maybe just as easy to use this KB article. http://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/article/KB-00850/72/Home-Designer/Terrain/Drawing-a-Plot-Plan.html or http://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/article/KB-00576/
  24. Hi Jon , with complicated Roofs it is best to post your plan , as there are just too many issues that may cause problems to guess from pics of your problem. There was a post about 2 months back that Jo_Ann and I worked on ,about exactly this , I will try and find it and post a link back here. I think you have 2016? it doesn't say in your Sig. and people can only open plans from someone with the same version or Older than them , so good info to know. Edit: some old posts https://hometalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/994-cant-get-this-roof-right-for-the-life-of-me/?hl=%2Bgambrel+%2Broof https://hometalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/224-how-do-i-design-this-roof/?hl=%2Bgambrel+%2Broof#entry1158 oh....in the DBX's there is a "numbers" box in the bottom LH corner , click on that and you should be able to change the Pitch/degrees etc if needed or in Defaults>Plan there is a box in the Top RH corner to "show degrees" (defaults is the wrench icon)
  25. geez voted down and called a lady all in one 1 post .....best you go for a couple of pints and try again and you are right sometimes it is just best to walk away and let the frustrations "drain" and then try again the next day.... However you need to reset your foundation to 300mm thick concrete in the Floor 0 defaults and rebuild the foundation 1st .... See https://hometalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/1166-floor-materials-for-different-plan-sections-changing-on-own-accord/#entry6665) then go to each room on level one and change each floor finish to the desire type ...eg : Natural Oak or Oatmeal tile
