if you want tile to the ceiling Use the Wall Break Tool and place a break 2-4" outside the tub , then select the wall over the tub area and change the interior wall material to the desired tile. If that doesn't work with your title or you only want tile say 2' high off tub use a Soffit (cabinet menu) and apply tile to it once you have resized it to 2'h x 3'w x1/4 thick or whatever you need to cover the area. other options may exist depending on your Title which is why its good to know what you are using... Some versions of the software allow you to do a calc. based on Room or Area though I don't know if Suite is one of them? however I think Room , only includes things inside the Room , not the Structure ie framing inwards starting with the drywall. Best bet is to check your Reference Manual and just try things out. If you don't already own it , then you could try it with the Free Trial or Call / Email Sales too. https://www.homedesignersoftware.com/company/contact.html

I am not sure how often they actually check the Forum , it is mostly End Users here , if in the US , you should try the 1-800 number , they also have a Skype Call and online Sales Chat on this Page: PS the Chief website is having issues last day or two , so the bounced email isn't unexpected https://www.homedesignersoftware.com/company/contact.html

post the plan ..........though I am no Terrain expert........I'll have a look....

took a quick look at your test plan , if you build your foundation with the Sill plate turned off and the Footing set at 16x20 as you 1st mentioned it looks ok to me although I don't know how you got your minimum Stemwall Height of 49 1/2" ? your frost depth is 48" and you also need to be 12" AGL (above ground level) which would mean your min. stemwall height is 60" + 1 1/2" for the Plate =61 1/2" I believe. ***EDIT Having played some more to try getting the 8" step to the garage floor, and then looking at the Garage Heights KB Article again, as it didn't seem to work as I assumed , I noticed that They stressed this point: Note: You may want to change the Stem Wall (I) height to meet your frost depth needs, however, before making any changes to the Structure settings in the Room Specification, you must first turn off Auto Rebuild Foundation This is probably something I missed earlier too as it seems to work per the KB once I disable Auto Build and changed the default floor structure to 4" concrete not the 12 5/8" framing and subfloor and adjusted the settings in the Room DBX's as needed ie garage floor -8" and Stemwall Top 0". With Autobuild still on 1/2 the settings are grayed out or immediately turn back to something else (default?) if autobuild is still on... Mick.

Did you get things sorted Rob ? sorry I haven't been online in a week as I had an unexpected stay in the Hospital.... Foundations are tough ,always have been and I don't think the newer versions are much better , lots of Talk on Chieftalk about it too. M.

see your other question and read those KB articles..... also I think I see Terrain inside the house which may mean you have unchecked the box in the pic or have a broken wall somewhere in your plan.

they all are which is why I posted them, especially if you are not familiar at all with the Terrain Tools and/or haven't read the Manual. The last two deal specifically with walkout basement type situations if you haven't looked.... M.

posting your plan is the easiest way for us all to help

Wall heights are controlled by ceiling heights ( Roofs) in all HD software as everything is based on "Rooms" , which I am sure is what the KBA Kat linked to above is all about.

Dimensions normally dimension to the main layer of the wall (framing typically), ie they don't "see" drywall etc but as you haven't filled in your Profile Sig. yet I can't advise if it is possible to reset your Dimension "locate" options or not, but maybe possible under Defaults>Dimensions>Dimensions>Locate. these might help: https://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/article/KB-00491/changing-your-dimension-settings.html https://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/article/KB-01002/using-the-dimension-tools.html#Interior%20Dimensions

Use Cutlist or Buy list , and make sure the default List has the approximate sizes on it or you may see some weird numbers. Also the names on the List don't always match the names in the Program , ie it doesn't breakout subfascias (ML calls it a rafter) , so can be confusing even if you don't use the Total Lineal Ft. method. Also know the Materials only allows for exactly what is in the model and only calculates many things on a sqft. basis, not per industry standard methods, if you want waste allowed for you must add it to the Extra Column yourself. be careful bidding with these numbers , as none of the same things are allowed for either...hangers, bolts, nails glue etc etc etc. ie not in the model , not in the list.

thanks for the feedback , if you have a Nvidia Graphics card Add Pro to the 3D management page under programs settings too ( particularly important on laptops with dual gfx cards)

This Dimensions KB lets you know what is available in each version ,under each dimension type's heading : https://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/article/KB-01002/using-the-dimension-tools.html#Interior%20Dimensions

these KB (KnowledgeBase) Tutorials may help too ( it's good for all sorts of helpful tutorials.....it's worth bookmarking) https://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/article/KB-01081/creating-a-pole-barn-structure.html https://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/article/KB-00908/creating-a-carport.html

in Suite , I think you can only move the Overview Camera square on to the wall and then Export a jpg , (or use the Windows Snipping Tool) to take a pic of the wall, not sure if you can turn off colour or toggles Patterns in Suite or not though? M.

I don't believe 10' can read any 12' plans or library files as there is no backwards compatibility (it's designed that way) But 12' should read 10' files okay ? Calib files are the info. files of the Calibz file basically, but they do not contain the textures (colours/materials etc) whether you can add the textures back in the other version I don't know ,but am doubtful.

yes the Number Style Dialog only changes what you see in the Dialog Boxes (DBX) , you change Dimensions in your Plan Defaults, under Dimensions>Dimensions>format which is what I assume David shows in his video. M.

Did you use a minus sign? eg -14" cos it seems to work for me.... what light were you using ? incase it is light specific.. remember these are lights so they typically get there height from the subfloor height ie HD reference height for everything which is 0" , and your garden is going to be at -18 " ? (even though the Terrain DBX refers to it in + no#'s) Terrain Curbs and Walls won't accept lights , so the Room Divider (invisible wall) works on them Retaining Walls will accept a light though , even if there is no slope to the Terrain , (ie they disappear into the grass basically) so that maybe a trick you can use too.

Eric's Tip is the old goto , it used to be in a KB too but the Article you refer to now tells you to change the Symbol (which HD can't do) , but if you look at the description for that updated Article it still mentions the invisible wall way.

Not Really , this Forum is the best place for all things related to Home Designer , when I mentioned "They" above I meant HomeDesigner/Chief Architect (the Company), they have requested Users email/use Social Media to get Manufacturers interested in working with them. They have been actively updating Libraries again this year now 2016/ X7 was released (and ported to MacOS). If you are a Sketchup User you can also make your own objects and import them too if you can't find anything to suit on 3Dwarehouse, many Euro Companies like KARE have large numbers of Models (3000+) free online , though not all models import well due to the way there are made. https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/index.html Many Chief Users also make symbols (which HD can't do) and post them online too in the ChiefTalk Symbols Forum , so you can find/ask question there too, only limitation is you can only import models from the same year or older versions (same as opening plans) https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/forum/9-symbols-and-content/

Use the Triangle shape from the Library for each side. M.

Did you try it ?, I think this was in 2015 Suite Version , at least the Manual for Suite on page 240 says it should work , unless it is a Manual screw up , that wasn't corrected.? M.

The Curb and Step upto the House yes , but he needs a 16x20 footing and a 48" stem wall (frost wall) + 12" AGL (60") with a ledge to sit the slab on. if the wall AGL needs to be 8" that would mean the lower Stem wall would need to be say 10" to form the slab support ledge , you can get the ledge using ponywalls , but I am not sure I full understand what he needs , so wanted to see his Plan. M.

Hi Rob, Thx.... I believe they call it a Gas Curb in some Locales , but regardless there is usually a curb as the siding must be 6-8" inches AGL for Rot protection,(Code) and the garage slab is usually only about 2" AGL with a slight Ramp to drive in. Its always better to work with your Plan and measurements , what works in a test plan (above) may not work in your plan , but most of those settings should be configurable in the Foundation Defaults or the Build Foundation DBX in Pro. Post your new plan if you need more help...
