  1. If you are drafting and producing construction documents for a living, I recommend you consider Chief Premier. Pro is a good tool, but it's quite limited in some areas. Premier gives you the tools and flexibility do do most anything, with, as David would say, a good bit of study.

    Wiring drawings

No new layers. Is there a real need to show outlet wiring? I would only show switched outlets.

    wall heights

Set your floor structure to 0 (zero).
  4. The space (rooms) above are likely set to a slab. Change the floor structure to something more appropriate. You should then have drywall on the ceiling. You may also need to make the basement walls higher to compensate for the increased thickness of the floor structure above.

    wall heights

There is a button on the Edit Toolbar to reverse a wall. The software often does this. Garage floors are normally lower than the house floor for safety. You can change it in the Room Specification dialog.
  6. Not David, but I believe covering the value with a different one is the only way. The program is designed to show dimensions the model produces.

    wall heights

You can also set the wall above as No Room Def instead of deleting it, then change it back.

    wall heights

See image. I see no garage.
  9. I just tried it as I rarely do foundations. By setting all space except the area over the basement as a slab, and specifying the correct height for your basement walls in the Build Foundation dialog, you should get what you are after.
  10. Will the house be on a slab, except for that one area?
  11. Are the files on your system in the directory specified?
  12. As a Texan (escaped from Houston at 18) for the first 39 years of my life, I think the only time I heard winders instead of windows was on Hee Haw.
  13. No mulling of windows in the Home Designer products.
  14. What specifically are you having a problem with?
  15. Stacked washer dryer and water heater added, along with entry closet.

    aligning walls

That's the plus for using auto build -- the program will make it correct. Another way of doing attic walls is to delete the roof and then rebuild. Building the roof puts the attic walls in place. If in doubt, work in a copy of the plan.

    aligning walls

Is there anything special about your foundation? In your location, slab on grade is standard. Once the house walls are correct, just rebuild the foundation so it matches.
  18. I upgraded from Pro 2015 to Pro 2016. 2015 still works. Newer versions can open plans created in older versions, but not the other way. You don't really upgrade the software, you get a complete new version at an upgrade price, so Pro 10 will not be affected. As for drawing walls straight, check your Angle Snaps setting.

    aligning walls

Go to the attic level and hit F9 to turn on reference display. It will show you the walls below.

    aligning walls

On a single story, you probably want to align the attic walls with the wall below, not the other way around. Noticed in another thread you are south of SA. I went to school in San Marcos and lived in the Austin area for almost 20 years. Can't believe how the area has grown since I left in 95.

    Placing a Rug

Rug in place. I'm no decorator, but I thought it helped tie the inside and exterior together.
  22. Also, this should be posted in Q&A, not Tips & Techniques.
  23. There are some really good videos on YouTube and there is the Knowledge Base with how to on many issues. Suggest you start by reviewing the videos specific to Home Designer, and reviewing the Knowledge Base. In addition, there is the built in Help System. A search for "porch" would be a good place to start. Also, you will receive better help if you can be more specific about what you are wanting. Columns, for example, can be very simple, or not.
