KayNine 7 Posted May 13, 2014 My kitchen appliances just look like a flat grey in camera views, even when I apply metal materials from the Library. How can I make them like they are actually shiny?
katalyst777 707 Posted May 13, 2014 There was a post on this some years ago back over on the old forum.http://hometalk.homedesignersoftware.com/showthread.php?16305-Shiny-Metal-Materials"... if you don't want a flat gray color, you want to apply a texture to your objects, and not just a flat color. There is a selection of metal materials in the Formica manufacturer catalog that might suit your needs. You could also do a Google Image search online for shiny metal pictures until you find something that is suitable for you to import as a material.Attached are some images that demonstrate how these types of materials (when set as "Stretch to Fit" so that they don't tile across the surface) can look when applied to appliances in Home Designer."

katalyst777 707 Posted May 14, 2014 Here are some of the materials I've found online that work well for applying to Appliances to give that shiny effect.http://homedesigner.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-01084/

dcscca 1 Posted July 9, 2015 Thank you to the posters above for the materials provided here, and to the previous posters in that linked thread for the tip about the metals in the Formica library. Super helpful!
Kbird1 158 Posted July 9, 2015 there is a Stainless Library here too , in this thread: https://hometalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/128-stainless-steel-library/?hl=%2Bstainless+%2Bsteel
dcscca 1 Posted July 9, 2015 Awesome! Downloaded and installed the library... love the materials. Thank you :-)
marceline 22 Posted April 12, 2016 this is great thanks!wasn't sure if it was buried in the earlier link, but this article explains how to create a new material to use the metals posted earlier.https://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/article/KB-01084/creating-a-custom-library-material.htmlit shows the "stretch to fit" option in the dialog image, but the material they used for an example needs to tile across a surface, unlike creating a new material for these shiny metals. LawB10 10 Posted April 12, 2016 The problem with the material definition tool is that applies the material to everything in the plan that has the same surface. That includes appliances, door and cabinet fixtures and lighting fixtures.
katalyst777 707 Posted April 12, 2016 LawB10 - I think you posted your reply in the wrong thread? Nothing from this one ever mentioned using the Adjust Material Definition tool.Everything above references either using the Formica materials from the Library Browser, or to create brand new shiny metal materials in your User Catalog. LawB10 10 Posted April 12, 2016 Kat, I think you misread what I said... Please, If you would go back read you're responses.
katalyst777 707 Posted April 12, 2016 LawB10 - This is a pretty old thread, so in case I misremembered, I did go back and double check, and did a search of the page for the terms even in case I missed it.I'm not saying that you're incorrect about the issue with using the Adjust Material Definition tool, just that it appeared to be completely out of place and is irrelevant to what is discussed in this post, so figured you accidentally posted in the wrong thread and wanted to give you the chance to delete or fix your comment. KayNine 7 Posted March 28, 2017 The metal materials posted here still work well in 2018 as well as Kat's other suggestions in https://hometalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/2468-tip-best-3d-camera-view-renderings/
