  1. Are you planning to build this addition on your porch? !!
  2. You have most likely already added a 2nd floor to the plan, so the program thinks you want to build a 3rd floor. Just draw new walls on the 2nd floor.

    Gable Roof Problem

There have been no pics posted of what the back roof is supposed to look like. Based on the more complete floor plan that Garybills posted, I created this. Of course I have no idea what the roof pitches are, so it is still all a big guessing game.

    Gable Roof Problem

Because I can't look at your plan file, and because you only posted a partial floor plan pic, I am guessing at what you want, in HDA program. Is this what you are trying to do?
  5. In the core library...Exteriors / Recreation/Pools, Spas, & Waterfront/ Pools/ Round Pools
  6. Remember, roofs build over rooms. Good luck!
  7. Why didn't you use one from the library?
  8. As Rookie65 said, HDA does not have manual roof capability. But, HD Architectural can do this, but not automatically, or easy. It requires a work-around that can be confusing and frustrating, especially for someone new to the software.
  9. I think DJP might have misunderstood what you are asking. You say that you want to make the exterior walls of the dormer, align with the first floor walls, but keep the roof overhang edge/soffit (that you refer to as a ledge). Is that what you are asking?
  10. Um, did anyone think a forum search might have some results?

    Roof Design

If you left the ceilings in the living room and family room intact, eliminating messing with the existing trusses, but removed the ceiling in the new kitchen area with clerestory windows, would the large doorways in the family room and living room provide enough of the open-ness you want? In this pic, living room walls are gray, existing bathroom wall is green, and the blue wall is the entry to the family room.

Jason, You never have posted any real pics of the exterior walls of the house, so someone can see what the existing roof really looks like.

A visual look at the clerestory window design, with ceiling removed, and a truss exposed.

    Roof Design

    Just another idea.
  15. Is this what the roof is supposed to look like?
  16. jpeg pics of the house should be posted directly to the forum. Not a PDF, and NOT a zip file that needs to be downloaded.

Maybe something like this? Maybe the trusses can be decorative?

Nevermind. I had to zoom in on the house pic, to see that it was showing the existing deck without a roof over it.
