hi I think he means the Eaves David..... your garage slab is 8" ? lower that your House floor so you need to raise the Rough ceiling height in the garage to match the house..... ie house is 96" , garage room should be 104" , have a look in your floor defaults settings for Floor 1 and then look in the Garage ROOM DBX and see if it is the same....make it so if not.... Forgot to mention that "walls butts other walls" option may have been removed from HDPro as it was causing issues , I have never had it "on" in Pro 10 but after reading your thread decided to try it and it did clean up those 45° angles BUT about an hr later while still working in Pro , it crashed HARD , 1st and only time ever since I've been using it . the .plan seemed to have multiple issues after a reboot , luckily there was an archived copy ,so I only lost a few hours work.... Be careful what you wish for I'd hate to have to redo a project the size of yours ..... M.

here are a couple of tips I saw I Chief-Talk today you might want to try ..... https://forums.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/1177-how-to-get-rid-of-siding-on-the-interior-in-3-d/

Good news finally some feedback ... Like you I was not aware of the "Don't touch those buttons" advice ....you would think they would grey them out then.... I guess if the Sips are waterproof? they are foam and skinned with what? ,should be no reason I guess your Idea shouldn't work, and having worked in London for 3yrs and seeing the Bricklayers work you maybe waiting a while to do it the other way on a building that size M.

You should really be reporting this to Tech Support so they can work on it for the next "Update" of the Program software , perhaps give a link to this Thread and the one I just found over on Chieftalk with the same issues.... https://forums.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/1119-3d-printing/?hl=%2B.stl+%2Bprinter#entry8670 M.

Well maybe not you but people try to zip the file while it is still open in HD , and then wonder why it wont zip.... also usually if sending a plan to someone you do a full backup and send it ,incase the other person does not have the same library as you with the same textures etc eg you have used 3d objects off Sketchup or made custom materials, that way the plan opens without any errors..... if the file is too large you can just email a standard saved .plan file it should open okay ... or well enough to fix issues like yours... M.

Yes Contact Tech Suppport , this is mainly an End User Forum , so it is unlikely that anyone will know more that you , especially since it is a new feature and most don't have 2015 yet... M.

And here I was thinking I was just here to learn about HD Software ......Apropos was a new one for me , not often used by us Construction types There used to be a foundation type called Brick Ledge but at least in HD Pro 10 it is no longer an option, so I don't know if its possible to get the Rebate the brick normally sits into in section views , at least easily/automatically. Not sure if you made that wall type or not , it isn't available in HD Pro 10, but setting the Main layer to the inside finish will also change all your dimensions as HD will dimension to the main layer usually. If you are doing that strictly for aesthetics ( if I understand correctly), then it would be easier just to change the material type to look like concrete ,eg make the inner wall use the concrete material and have your main layer defined properly so it aligns and dimensions accurately. Been 30 years since I did a pre stressed job but perhaps it is dimensioned correctly in that ,they are stood 1st right? then the SIPS and then the Brick..... if you do a wall multi select then you can probably align them all at once rather than individually though which will be a good time saver and reduce the chance of missing one.. David doesn't work for HD/Chief, he is a User like you and me and is just being a nice Guy , take him up on his offer ..... sorry I don't have 2012 so cant help like that. Make sure the plan is closed before you save it and then zip the plan up so you can post it/send it to David , his Email is in his signature, which by the way you should add one to your Profile too.M.

not sure why , but check all your wall roof tabs and make sure the gables walls are still setup right....<br /><br />M.
-
submit it to Tech Support , looks like you have the new version ? and please fill in your signature....<br /><br />you should have a backup in the Archive Folder which is in the HD folder in My Docs....

Apropos the non-aligned automatic foundations not to sure what that was meant to say? I think you have a Wall Layer Issue..........Do your Walls layers agree on what is the main layer ? ie what is the main layer of your level 1 walls ? the main layer will align automatically with the stem Wall but I think you have defined it differently or the default is wrong for your Brick Walls. If the Main Layer is defined as the framing and then you build the foundation the stem wall will line up with the framing not the brick , the brick will actually be out in space hanging free.... let me do a quick drawing and see ....make a pic or two well for me the default brick wall has the main layer set as the framing so in a cross section you will get the brick hanging off the foundation ,(Pic1) if you make the brick the main layer, the brick sits on the foundation (pic2) , however I am unsure if that is the correct way to achieve the alignment as far as Brick walls go , as I don't deal with them. Don't have time to dig deeper now but hope that helps..... Mick.

Thx for the feed back Bill , get the Client to pay for Pro 2015 as you Payment , cheap design by 1/2 I'd say.... Was not aware CA X6 could be rented monthly ..... We had a thread on the old forum and one here about 2-3 weeks ago on doing Manual Cupolas , it may help , as as David said the "3rd floor" must be derived from a "New Blank plan" and not derived from the 2nd floor below or it wont generate properly. the old thread http://hometalk.homedesignersoftware.com/showthread.php?19505-Adding-Cupla-affects-entire-plan Not sure how you got your 3rd floor?

David, Rich ,JoAnn etc may have some thoughts and I can't answer the 2015 question as like you I have Pro10 but Attic Walls are automatic and cant be turned off.... Pro10 doesn't do Sip Roofs , think this came up recently in another thread ( do a search) and they are problematic, not sure even Chief Does them? I am not aware of any premade Hexagon rooms ,but check you dimensions are set the same , usually they snap to the main layer (framing) but you may have temp. dims set to snap to surfaces ,so a temp dim will appear to be longer , eg by the thickness of the siding.... ie: you may have it correct already. If you upgrade to 2015 I hope you will update this as I'd be interested ,I too am thinking of upgrading since '15 does multiple monitors.... If you post your plan , I can take a quick look if you like , the new forum allows 10mb uploads you just have to zip the file 1st. Looking at your images , I'd say the Cupola is way too low , they would have to cut the log main ridge beam otherwise and support the roof somehow else..... ie very costly... if it is right ? cant you in elevation view pull those rafter down into the Cupola wall area ? vs the Cupola sitting "on" the beam as described earlier in your thread... edit: Is the cupola decorative only? ( ie open to below will cut out floor) to just let light in etc? then I guess the main ridge pole concern wouldn't be a concern , I don't see access stairs so maybe so ? I don't see attic walls in your pics so not sure of the issue there... Mick.

You shouldn't need to "align the foundation" after it is created especially if you derived it from the 1st floor when built. If it was Auto generated I'd just deleted it for now ( 2-3 clicks and you can rebuild it no sweat) and see if all your defaults go back to normal. Personally if the east and west wings are to be on the same levels etc I'd join them immediately so you "defaults" are the same for all buildings ....this is why in the past people have built separate building on separate plans so the defaults didn't get messed up between buildings. There are issue sometimes when you shove things over or connect them after, case in point is the Clerestory thread where he shove the second part over after building the 1st part, I discover that the shove over was his issue, it built correctly once you did all your exterior walls as a single outline 1st. All it may take is a single invisible wall to "connect" the 3 buildings ,try that 1st , this is how "open to Below" rooms work in some instances too, they "need" the connection to draw correctly. (don't know why) File size is fine... my "size" concern was based on the fact that,as mentioned plans with multiple single buildings tend to have issues , especially if they have different heights etc. M.

I think you are referring to the Break line Tool right? this isn't well documented but if you click the icon once you get the default action you are seeing ,ie you now have two sections and the line can be moved from the "break point" but still be attached.....however if you DOUBLE CLICK the icon it should give you a complete break in the line ,though I find it somewhat finicky. As to breaking a circle into quarters , not sure it can be done but you can draw 90 deg. Arcs with the CAD tools or the Circular Walls Tool. M.

Hi , David the topic title says he has Suite 2014 , I missed it too cos it aint in his Signature..... Not sure Suite can import though.... but David has many of the titles so will know . M.

shift f3 I think brings up the import DXF dialog box (DBX) or file>import>drawing(dxf) M. edit: Forgot to add , if it wont import , then your Arch. probably saved it as the wrong version of AutoCAD, but I'm not sure which years 2014 can import so check your Manual.

apparently the forum doesn't like the word g-o-o-k judging by the **** in my last post ? is saying gobbly **** not PC these days ? M.

I now have Rich text enabled thanks to Glenn At Chieftalk , so I am hoping that it cures the html tagging issue as the normal window didn't seem to understand emoticons or my use of > in instructions for menus. eg xxxx>xxxx>xxxx If you don't have Rich Text Option , goto More Reply Options >Full editor and in the top left hand corner of the reply window you will see a small grey box ( looks bit like a switch) next to the eraser click that and you will have rich text in both the full editor and the quick reply window. Doing this also seems to enable the "autosave function" of the reply window as you will see "last saved at" on the bottom left hand side of the reply window , which will show as "view last save" if you reload the page. Oops and here is the goobly **** from the last save window of this post..... <p>I now have Rich text enabled thanks to Glenn At Chieftalk , so I am hoping that it cures the html tagging issue as the normal window didn't seem to understand emoticons or my use of > in instructions for menus. eg xxxx>xxxx>xxxx</p> <p> </p> <p>If you don't have Rich Text Option , goto More Reply Options >Full editor and in the top left hand corner of the reply window you will see a small grey box ( looks bit like a switch) next to the eraser click that and you will have rich text in both the full editor and the quick reply window. I am finding it doesn't happen if I use the full editor , there are several posts now on Chieftalk with the same issues.

if you have the "snap to grid" on it will default to the nearest "snap point" , turning the grid snap off makes it easier if you are trying to draw precisely in CAD in particular. A lot of settings are not retroactive as you have noticed , I think there is more info on that in the Reference Manual. You can get it by downloading the PDF which is linked on the help menu.

in the box above the 1/16 setting you can set ' or " or '" = feet ,inches or feet and inches , what is it set to?<br /><br />you cant use decimals in imperial measurement plans only metric...<br /><br /><br />M.

Apologies , JoAnn maybe right , forgot you were using Suite, I am using Pro.<br /><br />M.
