  1. there are way too many variable to guess from a pic please post your plan file....close the plan while you do it. - your fascia and gutter are missing above your "hole" too
  2. if its a single storey like in your example , extending that roof out at the same pitch will make the ceiling in the new room really low , you may need to use the Upper Pitch option in the new outer Wall's DBX to set two roof Pitches (planes) up. Posting your plan will help if figure it out if you need more help. M.
  3. If you have CA Interiors not Home Designer Interiors you can access the SSA library once signed into the website or through your digital Locker. If you have HD Interiors or any HD title actually ($50-$500 programs) there is no SSA Libraries access , just the free content here: http://3dlibrary.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?YII_CSRF_TOKEN=7f6c5f8e4717d0d97c415d3eb8dd17c2635945a2&r=site%2Flibrary&search=&x=true&hid_cpca=0&hid_cpu=0&hid_ctm=0&hid_ctnm=0&hid_ctu=0&hid_order=&hid_norotator=false&hid_soft_family_1=0&hid_soft_family_2=1&hid_soft_1=0&hid_soft_2=0&hid_soft_3=0&hid_soft_4=1&hid_soft_5=0&hid_soft_6=0&hid_soft_7=0&hid_soft_8=0&hid_soft_9=0&hid_version_4=1&hid_version_3=0&hid_version_2=0&hid_version_1=0&soft_family_2=2&soft_4=4&version_4=on&x=0&y=0 The SSA libraries are at the link above too , you just need to alter the filters at top right for your version etc and be signed in. If you have CA Interiors you are actually on the Home Designer Series Website , the CA Forums are over here ...same ID and Password https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/ M.
  4. I can imagine ...... hopefully Santa puts Pro in you Stocking this year.....
  5. Please add your name and software version to you profile sig ( see mine below for a how too ) so we know who you are and what you are using as they have different capabilities and thus different answers. However , if you make the bumpout a separate room (room divider? ), give it a height of 6ft and tell the Bumpout's (3) wall's Roof tab to make a shed roof ( check how to make basic roofs) it should work fine.
  6. Pic 4&5 can be done in Pro by changing the window defaults , the others will take a bit of familiarity with Pro, but it is possible, but you should consider Chief if in business, it has much better capabilities for Custom work, and is faster ,though I guess you can make stuff in Sketchup and import into Pro as a symbol (object) too. Of course you can get Pro and move up to CA and get the Pro cost rebated against it if you upgrade , so that is a good option , and what I did.
  7. Take an elevation view and in display options turn off anything you don't want to see , eg Walls,Normal , windows. doors, roof planes, Roof overhangs etc. ( it's not a 1 click operation like in CA) and turn on Main Layer only ? (the framing) and Wall Framing for sure. Do them all at once , or you will be forever turning layers on and off, then when done switch it all back on for normal elevations views M.
  8. As Sue pointed out if its a Porch the Roof will build auto if your move the railing out , Decks don't have Roofs by default, so you will need to turn Roofs back on in the Deck Room's DBX (dialog Box) on the Structure tab for it to show up after moving the Railing
  9. It's not the 2nd floor Roof reaching down , it the 1st floor reaching up, it does so until it hits the walls of the 2nd storey in the case of a partial second storey , build the 2nd floor with a Blank plan ( don't ref. the 1st floor) , turn on the reference layer and draw your own walls on the second floor as needed. The roof will then build on 1st floor walls where they are exposed and off second storey walls where they are exposed , and off the 3rd storey etc as you go up..... do a quick practice with 3-4 levels with a simple box house each level 6 feet smaller than the last and you will see how it works. In some situations you may run into the 12 Bug (see my Sig for a post on it) with Porch roofs , but if you continue to do these complicated Roof designs you might want to consider moving up to Pro and it's manual Roof planes . M. here's a quick 5 min plan so you see what I mean above 3 storey Partial Floor.plan
  10. I was assuming the garage doors faced the street , making it the Front ,but as I said I can't tell from the pics what is the front or back .
  11. The pic labelled rear is actually the Side elevation Jo looking at the end of the garage (where the trees are in color photo) assuming the roof on the main house is the same both sides with the Dormer and 1/2 round window, though honestly I am not sure what is being called the front and back....have not opened the plan though. I fully agree , always amazes me how often people start "decorating" before the structure is even right.....
  12. my vote so far can you use the Upper pitch option on the front porch roof and blend it into the Upper roof perhaps though.
  13. the gable walls only balloon frame if you have the Balloon Through box checked in the Wall's DBX AFAIK generally the Gable end is actually a Truss unless you are doing True vaulted (cathedral) ceilings. M.
  14. Saw this new tip on CT today and thought others , who have Cross sections in there version, might be able to use it too.... Its not a perfect solution, but you can create an elevation flush with the cabinet face (essentially deleting the door and drawer fronts) and then set the backclip distance (essentially deleting shelves) for face frame/drawer box details. 15. Saw this new tip on CT today Warren and thought you might be able to use it too.... https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/6447-drawers-dimensions/#entry57693
  16. Are you just painting the Slab then ? or framing down a Drop Ceiling and drywalling ? then you likely need to add 2x4/2x6 to the Ceiling structure along with the Drywall. I also noticed a few issues like Eric did, but didn't try framing as it looked like a suspended slab Ceiling for that room to me. M.
  17. You have the ceiling turned off (see post 2),both in the Floor Defaults and the Room defaults , it is also set to 0" thick ,so make it 5/8 if drywall, and turn it back on in the Structure Tab. However is the room above built with a concrete slab or a standard framed 2x12 floor? M.
  18. you have to read the Tutorials carefully and follow exactly , it is pretty Clear , sorry if I wasn't...
  19. Eric may have a point I am not sure in Suite if you can have two different roof materials ? can you select just that roof plane and change the material? I am not sure in Suite if this works but in Pro you can alter the Windows by selecting the bay window, by clicking on the individual window you want to change (which selects the whole Bay 1st) then hit TAB and the selection will move to the individual window you clicked over. M.
  20. looking at your DBX pic , you have also set the Gambrel up on the Full Gable Walls ... DON'T ie.....no upper setting on the full gable walls , since you don't want the Dutch hip apparently. M.
  21. Do you mean the ARCHed Window ? Arched Windows are available in Pro..... I would suggest you just download the Trial version of Pro and try it out for your needs , you can open any current plans you have even , you just cant save them at all, so leave HD Pro open and Computer sleeping rather than off if you need more than one session to "play" M.
  22. Yes you can Save to PDF and then Print to a max of 200% to get full sized 24x36 ( ie a 12x18 PDF @ 200%) plans if needed. You cant do elevations or sections in Suite though so Pro is probably needed. Not sure if HDA would suit or not as I am not sure of it's capabilities
  23. My guess is you have the file open in HD ? (HD can be open just not the plan ) it won't attach if so..... Please see my SIG below and update your's so we know who you are and what software you are Using thanks.
  24. Looks like you forgot to hit the Attach button under "More Reply Options" for your Plan file too ( and your Mum's) . also make sure the plan is not open in HD Pro when you attach it , or it wont attach. Have a look at my Sig. below and please add your info to your Forum Signature too , there is also a link on how to post pics etc to your threads when needed. Mick.
