  1. Thanks David.  Your input is very helpful.  The video is great!

  2. David, would you be willing to look at the attached files and see if you can open them and save them in a format that the current version of Home Designer can open?  They were created (by me, years ago) in a Brodurbund version, I'm no longer sure which version.  I've installed Chief Architect X8 Desktop Viewer to try to view or convert them but it won't open these.  Any help would be appreciated.

I'll be using them in Home Designer Pro, if they will open, as a basis of creating a new set of files for this same house, the one we have lived in for the last 22 years.  I'm planning a kitchen renovations, and further down the road an attached garage, so not having to start from scratch and remeasure everything would be nice.35 Ankerville Deck Joists.PL2

  5. David Potter.  HDPro2021.  Any chance you could produce a video on creating multiple layout sheets for one project, showing floor plans, elevations, sections, etc.

I assume you need to create /  save each layout. cheers mate

  6. Mr Potter. Thank you so much for the video and plan correction. I'm excited to take a look. Alas, I must put my kids to sleep for the night. I will take a good close look later tonight or tomorrow.

    Thanks again!

  7. I was given a 2008 version of Home Designer,  version 8.4.0 which I just recently installed.  I have drawn up a house plan, which, at the moment consists of the rooms of a house and now have decided that I want to mirror or reverse the floor plan. Under TOOLS there is a feature to REVERSE PLAN however it does it about the vertical axis and I want to mirror it about the horizontal axis.  I could use the vertical axis feature if I could then rotate it CCW 90 deg but don't see this feature also.  Is there any way to accomplish this?

    Thanks

Take a look at "Build - Foundation - Rebuild Foundation" or you can just redraw the foundation manually, one wall at a time.

"On another matter which I don't need to do right now but would like to know if it can be done.  I wanted to increase the width of the living room by increasing the footprint of the house.  I tried to move the upper outside wall outward and it changes the kitchen area.  I assume I would have to reconfigure the kitchen back to what it was by moving the living room walls and anything else that was affected by the stretch?"

      Yes, that is correct

That is what the "Reference Display" tool is for so you can see one floor highlighted in "red" from another. Look that up as well.

Use a specialized wall for that called a "Half-Wall", it should be found under "Wall Tools" or "Build - Wall". Via its dialog box, its height can be controlled and of course, it's material assigned by you. Take a look please.

Try this and see if it opens and is editable in your software. The plan file is so old I am not sure I saved it in the right version for your use. So open it and see, please.

Please share a copy of your ".plan" file and I will do that action using Chief Architect Premier and then send the edited copy back to you if you like

  13. David,  I'm wanting to know how to turn of "fill" in a section or detail similar to Screen shot-1 so that i just get a nice unfilled line representation. Screen shot -2  is what i get when I send the detail to a layout

Image one above is vector based (just lines and fills). Like in 2D AutoCAD, just lines and fill patterns, all 2D

Image two was produced by a 3D camera based upon pixels and image-based materials, created in Home Designer.

In other words two completely different, if similar in appearance, one is not equal to the other.

  14. David, I'm new to the Home Design hobby community. I see you have been extremely helpful to other members. Do you work for Chief Architect or are you a freelancer. I purchased Home Designer Essential 2019 and have begun the process of recreating my current home. I'm not a gamer and thought this would be a good hobby.

I do not currently work for Chief Architect Inc. I have been self-employed since 1999, teaching, tutoring, teaching seminars and one on one helping other users. I am not a "gamer" either, I design, draft and teach is my main profession.

"...have you seen the online calculated industries calculator..." no I have not, I no longer do take-offs or building as I did when younger. Glad you are having some success!
