best to post the plan

Could you be more specific about what you are doing? You may save blocks -- I have entire kitchens saved as a single block.

I don't know, but I have seen this behavior myself and never understood the cause. My suspicion is use of the Material Eyedropper which I use all the time. Often I notice in a 3D view after making multiple changes in plan. I did draw in your other dormer and it worked fine.

You need to click "Select Material", then "OK" in the next dialog to reset to the proper material. You could also use the Material Eyedropper.

That's correct. You will need Pro to do manual roofs.

The cap is a custom countertop -- used because the default color is what I wanted, but a soffit or slab would also work with an applied finish. You will find soffits useful for many things. Here is a suggestion. New users seem to want to add a huge amount of extras to the plan as they are drawing it and focusing on the little details. Suggest getting the complete structure correct first -- floors, walls and roof. Then make a copy of the plan and start adding extras.

I'd draw this starting with floor 1 as the lowest level, and not use a basement/foundation/floor 0. Here is a tip for drawing a shape like the hull. Draw a CAD line that represents the centerline (keel). Now draw half the hull to one side of the line. Once you have the shape correct, Copy the walls, then Reflect About the CAD line to produce a perfect mirror image. You could do this for any items that are the same side to side, like the stairs on the back.

Setting Floor Structure to 1/8" and I get this.

You have Finished Floor set to 0. When I set it to 1/8", I only get part of the floor.

How do I add a layer? Lets say I want 2 layers of ply over the joist.

Could you explain "Only one layer shows up."

Which product are you using (Pro, Suite, Chief Premier etc) and which version? Research Pony Wall. Lots of good videos on YouTube -- search for Chief Architect, and check out the Knowledge Base.

Review the wall definition change I made in post #6. 1) Go to the basement level and change the wall definition. 2) Click the button in the edit toolbar to align the basement wall with the wall above. The walls will not automatically align themselves up. Aligning the first floor wall with the basement wall does not work. I understand this is a problem as you are building the foundation first, and doing this will move the foundation walls. You may ctrl drag walls to align them as needed too.

Did you see post #6? One change and the walls line up -- at least for the area you showed in your first post.

Here is one way. May not be the "correct" way. Note the change in the basement wall definition.

After drawing your handrail, add a shelf, slab or soffit on top. use the same technique to add the 1x1.

The Knowledge Base is full of helpful information, including an article on aligning walls. Since your basement wall is not a standard wall type, posting a small plan with that wall included would make it easier for us to experiment.

We could be far more helpful if you would post the plan. There are so many variables and without the plan, we are often just guessing. A bit frustrating and time consuming for us and for you.
