    Bonus Room Dormer

This is auto built, and just a guess at what you want. Just think about how roofs build and adjust your 2nd floor room ceiling heights and walls to get the roof correct.

    Bonus Room Dormer

What's the problem? What does the new dormer need to look like? Have you searched the forum for dormer? DJP and I have both posted videos recently.

Copy and Paste a Room or Rooms

You cannot copy/paste rooms with any Chief Architect/Home Designer product. You can copy/paste walls that form rooms. The more expensive products have tools to facilitate this.

You should use zip format too. Not everyone is able to work with 7z files.

Try again to upload the plan. There is a 25MB limit on size. Close Pro, Zip the file and try uploading the zipped file.

    Island Pendant Light

Chief lets you create and modify symbols. In this case, I added a stretch plane as seen here. Say you want a specific garage door, or cabinet door that is not in the library. You create one. You can easily add moldings, and create your own molding profiles. Layouts may have unlimited pages. Real Layers -- you can create layers and layer sets. Basically there are many advantages to Premier, but it really depends on your needs and what your customers expect. To stay current with Chief will cost about $600/year. There is much to learn with Chief too. Everything you know about Pro will transfer, but to fully utilize it will take study and work. Download the trial and spend some time with it and the documentation.

Copy and Paste a Room or Rooms

You can copy/paste walls that create rooms, but Architectural is limited on functionality. Pro would make this much easier.

    Island Pendant Light

That particular light has no stretch zone defined. Here is one that works, but the chain will not look too good as it's short to begin with. Save this file, then drag it into an open Pro window to import. The symbol will be in your User Library. Dover Pendant.calibz

Symbols are usually set to stretch correctly, so in a camera view if you select the light and drag it down, it will stretch along the chain/shaft and the light fixture will remain unchanged. You can make the same adjustments via its dialog too. There is a Help button in each dialog that will open Help to the correct section and often a bit of reading will answer a question. Also, just experimenting with the settings will often find the answer.

    Interior Dimensions

They are beginning to discourage auto interior dimensions and have even removed the tools from the toolbar, but you can add them back. I'll suggest again that you try using Temporary Dimensions as they only show when an object is selected. Quick video Watch on YouTube: https://youtu.be/MjU6T5nG4Qw

    Interior Dimensions

You should consider creating a new template once you have things setup as you like. That way, all new plans will pick up your defaults. I posted a how to in Tips & Techniques. Search for template. Dimensions in general. I would recommend you experiment with using Temporary Dimensions to locate things. This will keep the clutter down. Once you have things positioned, or as needed, add manual dimensions. Here I placed a window, clicked on its interior side and temporary dimensions allow it to be positioned. You probably want to set your dimensions to locate wall surfaces too. Edit>Delete Objects Choose to delete Auto Exterior Dimensions and the program will ask if you want to turn them off -- say Yes. You can turn off Auto Roofs there too. Not auto interior dimensions. I'm a bit confused. Maybe a couple of screen captures would help show the problems. Your window size does not include trim. For example, the 32" wide window shown above with casing would be 37.25" to the outside of the casing.

One click to place a dormer in your plan using Suite 2021. Because your version lacks the tools, you need to do it the hard way ... I know that's not very helpful.

    Floor Questions

The forum is about using the software, not about what you are designing with the software. Your engineer will give you what you need in the way of structure, and if you then need help implementing them into your plan, that's where the forum might help.

What's your goal? That is, why are you doing this? You cannot work just part of the model with your software. As you have seen, it's all tied together.

    Floor Questions

Andy -- Your questions are really outside the scope of this forum and best answered by a structural engineer. There are additional variables that need to be considered when designing a foundation/floor structure. As for the 17' joist length, you will probably find 20' is the next common size, but you can use the excess for blocking, headers etc.

    Shed dormer help

Not too difficult, but it's what I do Make a copy of the plan. Set your plan defaults. 1st floor ceiling heights etc. Start with Edit>Reset to Defaults. Choose All Floors and check all boxes below. Set the default pitch in the Build Roof dialog and uncheck Ignore Top Floor. Check Auto Rebuild. Make the Attic room Unspecified and set its ceiling to 1.5". Set the ceiling height in the room over the garage to 24". Set the walls as required to Full Gable and set the pitch for the roof planes that are not the default. Draw in the walls forming the dormer and set the room they form to the default ceiling height -- 8' ? Make changes as needed.

Then you will need to rethink how this is built. When I rebuild the roof, everything changes, and to get a dormer, the roof has to rebuild. Have you considered an upgrade to Suite? i have no experience with Interiors and it does not even seem to be available today. The basics are simple. Make a room where you want the dormer. break the front wall and set the pitch. Set the side walls to Full Gable. Build the roof. You will need to uncheck Ignore Top Floor.
