jweieio
Hello! I'm new to Home Designer and HomeTalk. My house, which I've just begun to render, has a typical full gable roof with a decorative gambrel style roof ledge. I am able to make a gambrel roof in HD Architectural, but I can't figure out how to essentially make a full footprint and height "dormer". I could punt and just work with full gable roof since the decorative gambrel style ledge has no impact on the interior, but I'd like to render the house fully if possible. I have tried starting with a gambrel roof and adding a dormer based on instructions on the site, but I couldn't make the exterior walls align with the first floor walls as they would need to in this case. I'd appreciate suggestions for how to draw this roof style. Thank you. Jo_Ann
I think DJP might have misunderstood what you are asking. You say that you want to make the exterior walls of the dormer, align with the first floor walls, but keep the roof overhang edge/soffit (that you refer to as a ledge). Is that what you are asking? jweieio
Yes, @Jo_Annthat is what I'm asking, thank you. And thank you, @DavidJPotter, for your response. I am familiar with that documentation, but I am seeking additional guidance because as far as I can tell, my situation isn't addressed by it. Rookie65
You'll be able to make those with manual roofs, yet Architectural currently does not have that feature
Jo_Ann
As Rookie65 said, HDA does not have manual roof capability. But, HD Architectural can do this, but not automatically, or easy. It requires a work-around that can be confusing and frustrating, especially for someone new to the software.

jweieio
Oh, wow, @Jo_Ann! Look at that! I see what you've done. Indeed it is a bit frustrating to work with, but I'm glad to play with the options. Thank you.
Jo_Ann
Remember, roofs build over rooms. Good luck!
