Jim_Robillard
I've created a masonry (stucco) wall using the fencing dialog and would like to create a window sized opening. This is a common style in my home city of Santa Fe NM. Any suggestions on how to do this?
LawB10
You can't put a window on a fence, use the half wall tool instead.....open it's specification box and go from there.
Jim_Robillard
Thanks for the suggestion. I may be doing something wrong, but I get the same result as with the fence. When I insert an opening 24" tall I get one that extends from top to bottom.
Jim_Robillard
Thanks Eric. I'm using HD Suite 2018. Looks like setting the rail style / railing type to "panels" is what causes the problem. If it's "solid" the window will work normally.
LawB10
Here's two ways to do it. Raise the half walls to 80" or lower the ceiling height for the brick room to 80" and uncheck roof over this room. One is a window the other is a pass thru.
Jim_Robillard
Thanks LawB10. Still not an accurate representation of a masonry (block) wall with openings. Using the wall or half-wall tool sets the base of the wall at the level of the slab instead of on grade and most walls are around 5 - 6' tall. I think that the fence tool will work if I select solid rather that panel type. Not accurate in terms of materials but a reasonable facsimile visually. solver
There is always the option of using solids -- a soffit, slab, or one of the shapes from the library. A fence with 1 window would require 4 pieces. Not difficult to do if you know the dimensions you want.
LawB10
Once again you will not be able to put a window or opening on a fence, the software will not allow it, as you will see... You're using Suite, which doesn't come with a slab, you can create the look of an opening using soffits and shapes but you can"t add a window or a door just a material. The work around is what I have shown. You use a doorway or a pass thru, once again, create a room and name it slab, uncheck roof over this room. Turn off auto rebuild foundation, and change it to monolithic slab, open the room and lower the ceiling height to 72 or 60" and c and d to -6 or 8. To get the block wall, click on the walls and change them CMU (block) and paint them.
