  1. Just a reminder, you probably want to post a new thread in the Q&A, This really doesn't belong in the Tips section, and it looked like your original question was solved, so other people probably won't be checking on this one again. Based on the image though, I'm not sure what you're asking. Are you wanting to lower the roof planes over the garage so that they will meet those other ones? Or raise the others? Or have another little roof plane in between that will fill in the gap?

  3. Pattern can't control the Texture. When you're looking for images to import, you'll need to find one that is staggered. Try searching Google images for something like "seamless subway tile free" or "running bond seamless free" - Find something close and test it out to see how it looks tiled across a whole wall. These aren't perfectly seamless but will give you an idea on what you're looking for, I'll try to see if I can find a better one that's got more a wooden look. These are better. Blended with dark grey in Home Designer will probably get you closer to what you want. You can also adjust the Y scale to make them look more brick tile like instead of wooden flooring skinny.
  4. Check your Library to see if you have a Cellar Door and/or Hatch, if your version has these they'll probably be under Bulkheads in "Exterior Attachments" or in part of this bonus catalog (although it doesn't look like the Essentials version can use it). It won't be open like this but you can at least change the door part to glass and get the basic look from the outside. Depending on how realistic you want to model it, you might want to do an Open Below room in the Deck with Room Dividers, or if it was in the terrain follow the article instructions on creating an egress. KB-00862: Creating a Window Well for an Egress If your version doesn't have a symbol for it, maybe check on the 3D Warehouse to see if one of these ones will work if Essentials allows you to import. KB-00888: Importing 3D Symbols https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/model.html?id=304e774ba0c5879f6398b27571c0e342 https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/model.html?id=2bc7693a5bd3bf71db15b6fb58cfb250 https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/model.html?id=3a0787599ee16202ffbb409a54baeb9d If you can't use the bonus catalog or import in Essentials, maybe try faking the look with some Wedges from the Shapes part of the Library.
  5. This has been coming up a lot again, so I figured it probably deserves its own Tip post. You don't set up individual wall heights in Home Designer, because they are controlled by the Ceiling Height of the room. (It would be a lot more work to set up every individual wall at a particular height, and very easy to miss one.) There's an article that explains in detail how to control Wall Heights in Home Designer. Check it out! KB-02969: Changing Wall Heights If you found your way to this post, here's some other good articles on the company's website that you may want to look over based on the reasons people have been asking about Wall Height in the Q&A section lately. KB-00140: Controlling Floor and Ceiling Heights KB-00317: Creating a Half Height Wall KB-01845: Modifying Garage Floor and Stem Wall Heights KB-00221: Understanding Wall Heights in a Doll House View Pony Walls or split walls are a type of wall where the upper and lower part can be different (like siding or stucco above and brick or stone below). They are only available in Architectural and Pro, and you can control the upper and lower wall heights. KB-01956: Creating a Split Material Wall Knee Walls are a special kind of wall in Home Designer that you'd use in an attic loft. KB-00358: Automatically Building a One and a Half Story Roof Not related to Wall Height, but rather Wall Length, but still worth adding in. KB-00245: Setting Exact Wall Dimension Lengths If you're still not sure after reviewing all this how to adjust the wall height for your particular plan, post a copy of the plan file and a photo of what you're trying to create in the Q&A section and we'll try to help you out. Attached I have an image of a simple salt box or offset gable. Pitch same on both sides, but the roof sits higher than the other. To create this type of roof, you've got to edit the Ceiling Height in the rooms (even if you're just changing it to get the roof to build right, then you can uncheck Auto Rebuild Roofs and set the ceiling heights of the rooms back lower if you need to for your plan). More info on roofs in Tip: Roof Help.
  6. Short answer - Wall Height is controlled by Ceiling Height (unless you have a half wall that doesn't go up to the ceiling). Long answer - KB-02969: Changing Wall Heights
  7. Or if you're on a Mac, hold down the Command key (instead of Control) while dragging to temporarily override the snap and bump settings and move the object unrestricted.
  8. I think David was probably looking at Premier (it probably lets you control the amount of rebar and whatnot), but it sounds like his basic assertion was right that a "Post" is not the right tool for what you were hoping to do. If you use a "Slab" 3000mm thick, with width and depth set to 250mm, and then create a Material's List, it should only show the Concrete you were hoping for.
  9. They are footings for the Deck. Try using the Material Painter (spray can) tool with the "Opening - No Material" option in a 3D view. If that doesn't work, you might have to change the Room Type to Balcony instead of Deck and then change the flooring to a plank material.
  10. Auto Stairwell is an EDIT tool. That means it shows up on the Edit toolbar, or when your right click on a staircase. (Here's a screenshot of what it looks like in Pro.) This Help article has instructions and pay special attention to the "Note" at the end of the article if the edit tool doesn't display when you select the staircase. https://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/article/KB-00125/creating-a-stairwell-for-your-staircase.html
  11. You might also want to post in this Off Topic thread. https://hometalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/990-good-sites-for-3d-symbols/
  12. Turning on the display of every layer won't help, because the "Walls, Main Layer Only" being set to display means that it won't display all of the wall layers. (Seems totally backwards to me, but that's probably what it is.)
  13. Change the material of the railing "board" on top to match the rest of the half wall.
  14. Select the skylight then click on Open Object. Go to Materials and change the Skylight Shaft.
  15. Nope, not even in Pro or Premier right now. Post in the Suggestions section of the forum that you'd like to be able to have inclined walls!
