Not usually , normally you see it post immediately , but if you leave the reply window open too long and don't do anything it times out ....and sometimes kicks you back to the main forum. Yes , being in Select Mode helps ...I was right after all.... The easy way out of a selected mode is the Spacebar , which puts you back in Select Mode AFAIK , while the ESCape Key lets you cycle through previous selected modes , might want to check that in the Ref.Manual too.

But they have set a precedent , so I'd go after it , esp. if you want 2 storey etc.....CM detailing is COSTLY and your neighbours didn't do it ...so your house would look "outer place" ..so to speak next to it ...still nice though ..I like CM houses myself , so if budget isn't a concern ..go for it.

Sure ... happy to help if I can.... Most City's/Counties have a lot of Documentation on their Websites in regard to Building Permits so it should be fairly easy to figure out what you need to do , I guess it depends on your Time Frame whether you want to do it yourself or not. PM me your email add., and I'll get back to you and look at what you have so far....

Nice Dave , I'm jealous.... ahhhhh I'm not seeing ANY Craftsman "touches" on your Neighbour's House though... and it looks like a TALL 21ft to me too

Don't assume the colours are what in the tutorial as the tut may have been made in another version or the person may have changed their default colours , eg my selection colour is Pink as I find it easier to see ( it's a Dan Baumann Tip from Chief Experts) and my selectable dims go light grey not blue ...at least they do in your plan ...see my pic above. I am using your plan , so I don't think it's that ...... mouse working okay in all other Apps ?
-
I am not sure what's going on cos if I click on that wall I get 4 different clickable dims, all which allow me to move or alter the wall, is your wall definitely selected ?
-
Not what you want to hear I know but Elovia is right ....it's actually not that difficult in CA , the difficult part is drawing the CAD with all the curves, arcs etc ....at least for me... CA has it's quirks though , you can only manipulate some objects from certain views etc which can be a PITA , it's not like SU in that regard. I am not sure if you could find something on 3DWarehouse or make something in SU and then import it though , might be possible depending on what you want to do... M.

There is also a segmental Arch with Keystone in the millwork Library under Mantels, lintels, Sills and something like this might work for your 1st pic ...just used the Slab tool but you can convert it to a countertop too and apply an edge molding for a cleaner look too, like 2nd pic. PS I'd check 3D Warehouse for your "French Roof" , the other option is to make it in SU and import it as an Object.

With the Quoining Button... is my guess no I am not joking, there are Auto Quoins too... Do a search on the Ref. Manual to learn more My stainless lib. is a standard HD library ,, so it import as normal to your User Lib. The Metals.zip is just some Pics of different metals I found on the internet or here or CT , so you will need to make a new custom material with those , There is a KBA on how to do that and is how I made the SS Library.

Perfecto ...Mucho Gracias.... Think Eric has been busy while I was Gone but it looks like you just drew the dimension line too close to the Doorway (opening) , the default "reach" for dimensions in the Plan Defaults is 24" , if you can't move 2' away , reset the default to 12" and it will work as expected. see the pics
-
My Stainless and Metals materials are posted in this Thead ,I think there is a Copper material or Two in the Metals.zip... https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/2563-stainless-steel-and-other-metals-add-yours-please/

You cant upload plan files if you have the plan open in HD , the plan must be closed , HD can still be open though.. See the 2nd link in my forum signature ...how to post plans and pics if needed. you also need to fill in your Profile Signature please..... see the 1st note in my sig for a how to as well below....

1.& 2.) Did you try making the casing the thickness and width of a brick and applying brick material to it ? the Lintel Option may also work for some of them. but you may have to fake it with Slabs, soffits or custom countertops ...this brickwork is possible in CA but not sure about Pro. 3.) are you talking about copper roofs , or the fact that it has a convex curve?
-
I have no idea what you are attempting , but a page no# from the UG or some pics or something would probably help. if you are too close to another wall , the interior dim. may break either side of it ? it depends on how your dimensions are set up to Locate Objects in the Dimension defaults.
-
There is no dimensioning ( or tape measure) in 3D Camera views , in any version.... Dimensioning is possible in Elevation Cameras/Cross Section (Views) as is the Tape Measure and Text , I however can't tell you what limitation there are in HDA , but in Pro you have full capabilities and can do detail Cross Sections such as Typical Wall Details along with adding dims and text to Elevations. see here.... https://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/article/KB-00439/creating-a-cross-section-detail-in-home-designer-pro.html An insight into what dim. works in what program https://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/article/KB-01002/using-the-dimension-tools.html M.

you got a couple more replies on CT too see this one which might explain the "jacking up" , Glenn knows his stuff... https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/6293-second-structure/#entry55914

Hi HD , I see you made it over here Please fill in your Profile signature , (see mine for a how too) and let us know who you are and what software and Version you are using , different titles have different abilities and thus difference answers to Questions. Thx. All Roofs have to be Built at once in Suite , not sure Why it would "jack it up" unless you added another Floor though , so best to post the Plan file here , make sure the plan is closed in HDS 1st though or it wont post....no need to zip it unless it is more than 25mb. M.

Thx Eric, the difference was the Final View with Shadows which I had not tried applying After the Technical Ill. and I found turning Color Off also cleaned up the "lines" lots of moire otherwise. There is a request on CT for a "White" Preset at the moment which I like the idea of too.
-
Hmmm no comments from Dave ....surprising... What view type or mix did you use in Post #7 Eric? looks good is it Technical ? what are your settings ? Thx M.

there is ALWAYS an Attic Level ALWAYS ...it is the level under the Roof planes and is built auto , you can't add Rooms up there but it is always there under the Roof Planes. EVERY VIEW TYPE in HD has it's very own Display Options (Layers Control) , even the Materials list, it's not just a 2D/3D thing , the "strange Attic Walls" didn't build when you turned on their Display, they were already there , you just couldn't see them (not displayed) and I think are because your roof overhangs are too short , Attics walls are controlled by the Roof planes ,the stop the Walls if the Roof plane is there and correctly placed. Your roofs build fine Auto even the single storey angled part once setup right , if you download the 2016 Pro Trial ( you can just activate it once you do upgrade) you can look at the plan below I have posted if you want too. Oaklands 13.08.15 MH_R1.plan M.

Ok , its more how you worded your OP , that Overhead/Profit AND Labour was 20%...... 40% labour AND 20% OH+Profit ? that seems closer..... for rough sqft pricing but the level of finish and the "details" can add substantially to the cost , and your originally "phone quote" wouldn't of had any ideas on that is my guess so I am not surprised he went high , he would also have been trying to ascertain IF you were serious of just Price Matching someone you were already working with etc... M.
-
I know in Pro you can definitely do it , not sure about HDA , so will believe you , but in other versions it is not possible as Dims cant be placed in 3d Camera views, only elevations/cross sections ( this is the same in any version even the Full CA ) might be possible to take a side view and in Paint or similar programs add text notes to the image but it wont be to scale AFAIK. M.
-
maybe I misunderstand you ? not sure I want to work in TN if 20% is the going cost for Labour on a whole project , I know Labour must be cheaper there but 54K for all the labour? wow....
-
It looks like you have allowed a 20% markup for overhead / Profit but I don't see anything for the Builder/subtrades Labour or subtrades materials or fixtures(electric/plumbing). Are cabinets in there ? countertops? appliances etc etc.... M.
