  1. I have Pro 10 but If you have Object snaps enabled in the Preferences you should see a center snap when trying to place a wall ...if near the center.... you can also look at Edit>Snap Settings center maybe disable? 2nd part of your question I an unclear what you are asking sorry.... your DBX may look different than mine as different versions but
  2. it would be on the Edit toolbar if available in Suite which usually comes up once you select the window (or door or anything actually) at the bottom of the Plan window , in my old version of Pro it only works on Windows I think?,but that may have changed in 2015 versions? have a look in manual for Edit Toolbar perhaps I moved mine to the bottom from it's standard location? M. Edit ****thought I better check the Tool works over Doors in my old version Pro 10 too. not sure if this tool is in Suite , does the help specifically say available in Suite?
  3. you can't specify the floor structure in Suite it is fixed at 12 5/8" ? in Pro you can specify the structure and type/size needed. Not sure what HDA allows in this regard , hopefully someone else will pipe up on that point. shouldn't be an issue to add a gabled roof over your front porch but it aint a one button click type deal 1st build a front porch/deck/entry "Room" ,then you can change the Roof to Gable type once having read the Ref. Manual on the basic Roof types. you can post pics and your plan here on the forum if you need more help. ( see my sig. for tips) M.
  4. you would need to set the Room heights appropriately in each of the three areas(rooms) and setup up the Wall definitions properly for a shed roof over each room for it to generate correctly as Suite has no Manual Roof tools so you have to set it up correctly 1st then Auto Build the Roof , once you have it correct uncheck the auto build Roofs so nothing can mess it up in the future. see images below , in pic no#1 - Red 1 walls set to full gable - Blue2 walls set to High Shed/Gable - Black numbers are Rough ceiling heights for this plan. - Roof pitch was set to 4" in this plan on the Build Roof DBX
  5. looks to me like you are doing ok July , sounds like your existing house is pushing the Software to the limits though. some versions can import Topo data ,you said 2015 but version 15 is 2014 isn't it? also what title? HD Pro ,Suite , Architectural? they all can do different things which is why we suggest adding title and year/version to you Forum Signature ( see bottom of my reply) M.
  6. As above I would also uncheck Attic Wall , as they are auto generated and why you see a strange wall connection at each end. Next time draw ALL 4 walls yourself, to make the Attic (2nd) Level , drawing over the auto generated walls if needed ,this turns them into "normal" walls as, as you can see Attic Walls wont allow Rooms to be built. By default HD does not allow Rooms in any "Attic" Space. PS I saw your post on CT about the Dormer M.
  7. Typically this means you have a bad wall connection somewhere , perhaps you have messed something up trying to place your Dormer ? M.

    Terrain Issue

great - you can also check the "flatten Pad" box on the TP's general tab too if needed to flatten the ground under the house itself, then the contours should step away from that.

see above again you are right too poor for me to make out the heights etc M.

    Terrain Issue

Sorry FW please reread above , I was editing it as you were replying , apologies for (my) the confusion.... I cleaned up the lines and changed there color etc so I could see there relationship easier. Looks like you have a cliff up the back? where the light blue and red line are touching? You did pretty good by the look of things , just not sure why your house/TP is set at +92 3/8" M.

    Terrain Issue

The "Grey Area" in your post is an Elevation Line, as is the one outside it, so it acts just like any other elevation line and undulates up or down depending on the elevation line either side of it. ( see 1st KB article I linked above) but you seem to have them lapping over each other. The house Pad is set at 92" so that is a 7'6" approx. drop to your 1st drawn 0" and I do see 8' on the auto drawn contour/topo lines. Do you have pics or a survey so we/I can figure out what it is supposed to be/look like? if that area is indeed flat why do you have the house set at 92" ? I think I am seeing a 20' height difference correct? approx....+92" to -144" My guess is the house should be at 0" too if you want that area Flat. Note that 0" Terrain height does not refer to the 0" height of the main floor of the house which never changes, with a foundation built the 0" Main floor is actually about 18" above the terrain by default in HD. Did you model all the Terrain Topo elevation lines? posting the plan is always a good idea otherwise we have to guess but this should keep you busy for Sunday night although this article is for Chief it gives you a good idea about how the terrain works http://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00574/150/Chief-Architect/Terrain/How-Chief-Architect-Interprets-Terrain-Lines.html these 3 articles should give you a good idea/start on stuff In Suite http://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/article/KB-00861/72/Home-Designer/Terrain/Understanding-How-the-Height-of-the-Floor-Relates-to-the-Height-of-the-Terrain.html http://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/article/KB-00128/72/Home-Designer/Terrain/Troubleshooting-Terrain-Hill-and-Valley-Display-Issues.html http://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/article/KB-00322/72/Home-Designer/Terrain/Setting-the-Height-of-Terrain.html more terrain articles http://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/category/72/0/10/Home-Designer/Terrain/
  14. In older versions, in Pro at least, it is call the "Bearing Line Tool" and is under the Framing Tools along with the Post and Joist Direction Tools. In the Wall's DBX you can also check the foundation box , if you need a foundation or thickened footing under the Slab. Once again I use Pro 10 so am not sure of the Tools in HDA 2014. it maybe named per DJP advice above if you upgrade to Pro 2015? Dave maybe able to clarify as he has many versions.... M.
  15. Sorry Max didn't catch that yeah I think it is pretty ironic someone spent time to do that addon but a basic feet/inch calculator is missing. I understand no Notepad since it is easy to copy paste as normal from any window's program, be good to keep all the info together though. M. Ps go up to your username at the Top right ,click, choose My Settings>signature>edit
  16. Eric is right Coralie , Chieftalk will get you better answers it is the Pro Forum , you can use the same ID and password to sign in over there. - but you should be able to copy the existing ICF wall , then rename it Interior ICF Wall and then redefine the wall as needed for thickness etc - have a look in the Reference Manual ( help menu link) for Wall definitions and copying ,saving new wall types etc. - If you are a new user ? the User Guide on the help menu will help get you started as will the Chief Videos online and their Youtube Channel here: https://www.youtube.com/user/ChiefArchitectInc other resources: http://www.chiefarchitect.com/getting-started/ Free Webinars https://seminar.chiefarchitect.com/?__utma=67784003.436770210.1394355969.1425100753.1425239460.149&__utmb=67784003.4.10.1425239460&__utmc=67784003&__utmx=-&__utmz=67784003.1425239460.149.2.utmcsr=3dlibrary.chiefarchitect.com|utmccn=(referral)|utmcmd=referral|utmcct=/index.php&__utmv=-&__utmk=137943543 Free Live Demos http://www.chiefarchitect.com/products/livedemo.html Free Training videos (with SSA) http://video.chiefarchitect.com/?__utma=67784003.436770210.1394355969.1425100753.1425239460.149&__utmb=67784003.1.10.1425239460&__utmc=67784003&__utmx=-&__utmz=67784003.1425239460.149.2.utmcsr=3dlibrary.chiefarchitect.com|utmccn=(referral)|utmcmd=referral|utmcct=/index.php&__utmv=-&__utmk=174644837 http://3dlibrary.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?r=site/library&search=&x=0&y=0&x=true&soft_family_2=2&hid_soft_family_2=2&utm_source=&utm_medium=&utm_campaign=
  17. -- post the plan July ......see 2nd link in my sig for a "how to" thread -- would be a good idea to add your version and title to you forum sig. too as different versions have different tools and thus answers. -- didn't build your fence on level 0 instead of level 1 did you? M

Forgot to mention you can draw curves in elevaton views etc with CAD ARCs etc for Constructions Drawings , it is getting it into 3D views in HD Pro that isn't easy/doable , with Chief you can of course create you own 3D symbols and Mouldings etc. M.

Yes I read Revit is about $6000US though your owner/builder maybe able to handle $2000 for the Chief upgrade ? ($500 Pro rebate) SU is free so hard to beat , Sketchup Pro is $500US I think so about the same as HD Pro , though you'd want to investigate if the Pro version is really needed, but you can evaluate it for 8 hrs of drawing for free then the Program reverts to the Free SU version. http://www.sketchup.com/ I have played with the barrel roof tutorial , it is a fun learning example , but you wouldn't want to do barrel roofs everyday that way , another reason for Chief perhaps? No cotton socks for me but thx....

working as an Architect or designer Robyn you should consider Chief Premier , otherwise Su as David suggested is your best option for making objects you need as Curved objects just are not easy in HD Products and as yet you can't do angled or leaning walls etc for Modern designs in HD or CA either. PS the 3rd image is too small to really see any details. M.
  21. it would be much easier to give you a good answer if you post your plan or even a few pics , otherwise it's just guesses at what you are trying to do , see the 2nd link in my Sig. below if you don't know how to attach Pics or plans. I think Kat is referring to this setup which I used on this house Once the Step Foundation is built properly you can then in an Elevation view "cut out" the concrete for the window if needed and make it larger , as I did here for the 3rd window from right
  22. It does work FW but have a look at Jo's second image for your situation which is different from the Warehouse I did below. I'll attach the plan from that so you can see the settings and have a play around etc. Warehouse_Mezzanine Floor.plan M.
  23. if you are already familiar with the Construction Master , (I like mine too), it is also available as a Windows Program or Phone App too. http://www.calculated.com/sect62/Mobile-Apps-and-Software.html
  24. please let us know what Program you are using and filling in your profile's signature with that info too is helpful for future posts, see mine below M.
  25. have a look at the second link in my sig. for posting pics/plans.... but look in the reply window bottom right for the more reply options button then the attach button post both then others can look and try things and offer some real help perhaps M.
