Stuck on how to configure my roof

Hello,

I am very much a newbie, using Home Designer Architectural 2024, completely self-taught with the help of online videos, help files, and good old fashioned trial and error.

I am trying to recreate a plan that I purchased so that I can try out different ideas before committing to the build. I am not changing the plan (blueprints) the user will build from, I just want to create walk-throughs for space planning and views of the outside for materials, colors, landscaping, etc. The plan I am trying to replicate is https://www.theplancollection.com/house-plans/plan-1706-square-feet-3-bedroom-2-bathroom-cottage-style-32704

I am completely baffled by this roof. I thought I had finally figured out how to do this but not being able to manually edit an auto-built roof, and not getting the results from drawing the gable lines myself, I finally need to please ask for some advice. Every time I build the roof it jumps up, what I thought would be the difficult aspects turned out to be easiest.

This is what I am trying to replicate:

I know I have some tweaking to the materials but for the life of me I can't figure out where I am going wrong with the roof lines, what I drew get overwritten when I build the roof but if I delete the roof and just draw only my own lines I never see a roof result from it, am I missing something very basic?

My .plan file is attached (zipped for file size) if anyone wants to look, hopefully my mistake is obvious to those who know what they are doing. Thank you in advance for your advice!

Matt

Thanks Jo Ann. The blueprints I received indicate 8/12 which is what I selected  in the app, those pitches above the garage, front entry, and front bedroom I can live with for now and tweak later, its this huge hump in the middle that I want to tame. I read somewhere that it is not possible to edit a built roof (if it is possible, I can't seem to do it)  but when I draw my own lines the roof never appears until I select Build Roof (automatically rebuild is turned off) and then the hump appears

Sorry for all the newbie stuff, I am learning not just the app but architectural terms also so it is challenging. Having designed dental restorations using 3D scanners and CAD/CAM 5-axis titanium milling I am no slouch when it comes to working with advanced apps but I am very early in my learning curve on this one so I appreciate the help and the patience, thank you

Thank you Eric, that was extremely helpful. I don't know why I said 14 was my version, I probably should not be working on this during work hours while muted on Teams calls about migrating SQL servers from unsupported OS versions. So much for multitasking.

I think I now also have some insights into where the changes need to be made on the walls, I was applying the pitch incorrectly, I was trying to put it into the gable wall instead of the wall that the roof is over.

As I mentioned my main goal is to create a close representation to try out colors, materials, etc as well as to plan the arrangment of the interior spaces. My wife seems to think our main living area is larger than it really is and the amount of stuff she is planning to put in there just isn't realistic in my opinion. I already extended the side walls by several feetjust to se what it would look likeif we asked our builder to increase the size of the home-- we already have to stretch the dimensions slightly to meet our HOA's square footage requirements but the builder is doing that work, this is only for conceptual "what if" games.

You have given me a lot to try out, I truly appreciate your tiem and effort. Thank you!

Eric, I am terribly sorry but I see you  have removed your video, I had to work this weekend and didn't get to finish watching it, I hope you still have it? I didn't realize you would only have it available for a short time or I would have downloaded it.

Many thanks,

Matt
