  1. Eric, I am terribly sorry but I see you have removed your video, I had to work this weekend and didn't get to finish watching it, I hope you still have it? I didn't realize you would only have it available for a short time or I would have downloaded it. Many thanks, Matt
  2. Thank you Eric, that was extremely helpful. I don't know why I said 14 was my version, I probably should not be working on this during work hours while muted on Teams calls about migrating SQL servers from unsupported OS versions. So much for multitasking. I think I now also have some insights into where the changes need to be made on the walls, I was applying the pitch incorrectly, I was trying to put it into the gable wall instead of the wall that the roof is over. As I mentioned my main goal is to create a close representation to try out colors, materials, etc as well as to plan the arrangment of the interior spaces. My wife seems to think our main living area is larger than it really is and the amount of stuff she is planning to put in there just isn't realistic in my opinion. I already extended the side walls by several feetjust to se what it would look likeif we asked our builder to increase the size of the home-- we already have to stretch the dimensions slightly to meet our HOA's square footage requirements but the builder is doing that work, this is only for conceptual "what if" games. You have given me a lot to try out, I truly appreciate your tiem and effort. Thank you!
  3. Thanks Jo Ann. The blueprints I received indicate 8/12 which is what I selected in the app, those pitches above the garage, front entry, and front bedroom I can live with for now and tweak later, its this huge hump in the middle that I want to tame. I read somewhere that it is not possible to edit a built roof (if it is possible, I can't seem to do it) but when I draw my own lines the roof never appears until I select Build Roof (automatically rebuild is turned off) and then the hump appears Sorry for all the newbie stuff, I am learning not just the app but architectural terms also so it is challenging. Having designed dental restorations using 3D scanners and CAD/CAM 5-axis titanium milling I am no slouch when it comes to working with advanced apps but I am very early in my learning curve on this one so I appreciate the help and the patience, thank you
  4. Hello, I am very much a newbie, using Home Designer Architectural 2024, completely self-taught with the help of online videos, help files, and good old fashioned trial and error. I am trying to recreate a plan that I purchased so that I can try out different ideas before committing to the build. I am not changing the plan (blueprints) the user will build from, I just want to create walk-throughs for space planning and views of the outside for materials, colors, landscaping, etc. The plan I am trying to replicate is https://www.theplancollection.com/house-plans/plan-1706-square-feet-3-bedroom-2-bathroom-cottage-style-32704 I am completely baffled by this roof. I thought I had finally figured out how to do this but not being able to manually edit an auto-built roof, and not getting the results from drawing the gable lines myself, I finally need to please ask for some advice. Every time I build the roof it jumps up, what I thought would be the difficult aspects turned out to be easiest. This is what I am trying to replicate: this is what I get: I know I have some tweaking to the materials but for the life of me I can't figure out where I am going wrong with the roof lines, what I drew get overwritten when I build the roof but if I delete the roof and just draw only my own lines I never see a roof result from it, am I missing something very basic? My .plan file is attached (zipped for file size) if anyone wants to look, hopefully my mistake is obvious to those who know what they are doing. Thank you in advance for your advice! 5. Thank you everyone for your advice, I had to sideline this for a few weeks but will return the project shortly. Y-g-m-n, I tried your recommendation first but I found that drawing everything entirely freehand and having it match was difficult, it seemed that tracing would be easiest. It may still be that I will need to go that route to ensure that when it comes time to add cabinets and such that they actually fit and that I didn't spend a lot of time creating a model of a dollhouse instead of a full-sized home. The only reason I bought this program was to model and existing plan, not to design new ones, so maybe there really are no shortcuts to this but I thought I'd ask, at least now I have a better idea of where I stand Thanks everyone, Matt
  6. Sorry for the newbie question but I have been struggling trying to figure this out on my own and am getting nowhere I bought plans for my new home and have a PDF file. I am not interested in modifying the plan and building from it-- I want to build it exactly as it is-- but I woud like to import the plan so I can model different materials, colors, landscaping, cabinets, etc. I have been able to basically trace over the plan and make my own walls, windows, doors, etc and have a fairly good representation but it was a real struggle to do it and now that I have my own walls on top of the background image I would like to turn off the display of the underlying PDF image. That is my first floor. However, the home has a walkout basement and the basement walls do not match the main floor and I am having a hard time getting them to line up and for the stairs to work-- they are U-shaped (6 down, landing, and 6 more down like what you would typically see in a split level). Do I need to build the basement first and then add the main floor, did I do this in the wrong order? I'd like to just start over, I just upgraded from Architectural 2022 to 24 and would like a clean slate. Is there a training module (or modules) that show these steps? Thanks for any advice you may have! Matt
