English's post in Odd Boxed Eaves was marked as the answer
I check the overhangs and they were both the same however for some reason the Default box was unchecked.
Thanks

That's exactly what it was and I turned it off even though it was marked as not present in the drawing.

English's post in Spiral Staircase was marked as the answer
Thanks guys. I used the one from the library and when I searched the online help I didn't get the one that Kat suggested. I entered "create opening for spiral staircase" in the search field -- guess it was too complicated, should have just entered 'spiral staircase".

You got me thinking. I went back and looked at all those walls where I couldn't define the room and they were all listed as Attic walls with no room definition -- even though they were created manually on the second floor. I unchecked all and I can now define the rooms. I have no idea why they were listed that way as the other rooms on the second floor are normal walls.
I don't know if it's a bug but if I create a new floor with the Automatically create walls from the first floor un-checked and add the walls manually then the program should not create walls.

English's post in Roof Plane Keeps Moving was marked as the answer
The strangest thing -- I copied the roof planes from the plan that Eric sent (where he had corrected my errors) then pasted into my plan and I have not see that anomaly were part of the plane was inside the building. Go figure.

I had forgotten that you could do that until I saw your video on my roof issue.

Normally the outer layer -- the siding, overlaps the brick on the floor below (and in actual construction the bottom of the siding is about 2" below the top of the brick course). So -- the inner layer of the siding should be the same as the outer layer of the brick -- if that is possible with the program, if not then the outer edge of the house wrap should align with the brick.
Thanks
Alan
PS I guess I just answered my own question. I changed the siding so that the house wrap was the first item on the main layer and for the brick I moved every item down to the main layer so that the brick was the first item on that layer and viola -- it aligns perfectly.

English's post in Help With a Shed Dormer was marked as the answer
Okay after submitting a bug report for the Cut Walls at Roof Plane I finally understood what that function does and it's not what I thought it would do. It just removes the vertical section of the dormer side wall below the roof plane. I was told by tech support that to do what I wanted I just needed to extend the side walls into the building so they are visible in 3D views. Then to hide them in plan view I need to place a CAD square over the portion of the wall so that it is not visible. A workaround but does the job.
Alan
Cut wall at roof plane does this.
I need to extend these walls into building so they complete the dormer in plan and elevation views.
and then in plan cover the section of the side walls with a CAD box so they are not visible (in actuality they are built off the roof sheathing so are not visible on the second floor plan.
Hope that makes sense.

I found out how to do it -- copied the Siding 4 wall, renamed it Cedar Shakes 4 and changed the outer material to a Certainteed shake.

I got a quick response from tech support -- reply below. I see that they also added the ability to draw set backs. Unfortunately you cannot have different set backs for each boundary line.

Thank you for bringing this inconsistency to our attention. It appears that the Plot Plan Text Style exists only in certain plan style templates.
We have corrected and republished this article so that it will now work regardless of which plan style template is being used. Specifically, under the section ‘To change the display to decimal feet and bearings’, we have added a step showing you how to create the Text Style “Plot Plan Text Style”. You should be able to follow the updated article now without further issue.
For your convenience, here is another link to the article: http://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/article/KB-00576

English's post in Dormer over first floor walls was marked as the answer
I wish I had more experience with this program before I started on that house as that salt box roof is exactly what I needed. However I have sunk too much time into this project to start over and as there will be only floor plans I can live with what I have.
Thanks for everyones help.

English's post in Display Options was marked as the answer
Okay I moved my first floor roof to the next floor drew a dormer on that and it shows in 3D view but not on the first floor plan as desired. But now I have the same issue when plotting the second floor -- the dormers show up. So I created a dummy third floor added a dormer there and voila -- it worked.
Thanks
Alan
