  1. Hi - Im only a novice user - but using under room specification the Use Soffit Surfaces for Ceiling - works for me in the past;

    Then I go to Build\Framingf\Floor/Ceiling Beam - insert on plan; then adjust height position and dimensional preferences you like;

    Likewise with post of the truss arrangement.

    An image of a quick solution below; Not sure if this is what you want - colours can be painted to suit.

    There are people here who know allot more shortcuts than me.

    Cheers.

    Hi Robborito,

    Thanks for the reply. I've tried turning auto roof off. Are you just creating another storey and shortening the walls of the upper level?

    Hopefully - these screen shots of my model explain what I did to achieve this;

    I have highlighted the storey in purple and room area specification  info I utilised to do this with;

    I also placed a capping on the balustrade wall/parapet - whatever you guys call it.

    Hope this helps explanation.

    I could post the model I guess - if necessary.

    Regards.

  3. It's late night here in Aus so I'll open the file tomorrow......I thought I may have adjusted the wall height manually but just let me check that and get back to you. It was a sort of scratch and see...experimentation with the software use at the time. But quite achievable I recall.

  4. I utilise floors and turn off roof components for the 'riad' look...if that helps?

    Create a room type - that is externally located, that is a slab.

    It took me a while to work it out to make it all  look right - but client was happy.

    Thing is I often create things to work for me - but forget how I did it...

    I now make shorthand notes in a book. ( Not digitally - I use a notepad and pencil.)

    Also easily found when needed.

  5. For an entire plan ' from start to end' - This video was a help for me as a novice in the world of HDPro.

    I watched a bit - then copied it whilst on pause - then watched the next bit - and ditto...

  6. Answered From Support as follows - for those who may be interested;

    "When an automatic roof is generated, the program tries to create roof planes that join together to form a single, integrated system. Different parts of the structure influence how the roof is generated over the whole.

    When you need the roof planes over an area of a plan to be entirely separate from those over the rest of the structure, you can assign those areas to a non-default Roof Group. The program treats different Roof Groups as separate buildings for the purpose of automatic roof generation, preventing their roofs from influencing one another."

    So, for example, if you have a house with a turret at one corner, and you don't want the roof over the turret to blend into the roof over the main house, you could put the turret room in Roof Group 1 instead of 0.

    Thank you to 'Support'.

  7. Hullo Forum.

    Looking at this option under Room Specification - ' Option - Roof Group'. ( See attached image )

    What might this be used for?

    Is it just an arbitrary option that allows you to nominate a roof area as a group of roof plans, with same material, slope/pitch - etc.

    If so, where and when can you recall this group - as a 'Roof Group'?

    Does it appear in the materials listings as a group?

    Apart from this perhaps - I can't see where else in my version -  HDP 2018.

    I have assumed that this roof group - can be edited collectively. Anything else?

    Thanks in advance.

    I am impressed.

    I will try this excercise.

    Thankyou.

    Now that is not in the Reference Manual.

  9. So by 'Global' do you mean every Sketchup object  item known to 'modern man'.....Wow.... that's going to be one big library file?

    Why would you want that I ask?

    What's the issue with specific items as required?

    I import Sketchup objects via ArchiCAD into HDPro2018 - successfully, free and much better unique ideas and files.

    Cheers.

  10. I know them as 'treads' and not 'threads'?

    Is this a US term?

    Assuming from what I have read here, that's what we are talking about.

  11. But a dxf file  is a CAD data file.

    It will open as just lines and arcs etc inHDPro - won't it?

    The dxf is not going to be a three dimensional import like a 3ds or stl perhaps.

    Dxf is fine for electronic drawing board 2 dimensional CAD.....with no BIM or 3D data.

    I would guess you would have to spend allot of time expanding with trace overs etc to produce your HDPro model.

    Rather a slow process from my past experience.

  12. For me, with three point perspective/camera views - Standing too close to the target with a wide camera viewing angle (Field Of View)  of more than 60 degrees - will distort things out of sight.

    I move away from the target, then ensure my camera viewing angle is a maximum of 60degrees (Default is 55 Degrees) - and things start to appear, well sorta normal.

    That's been my experience  - for what it's worth.

    Hope I am not intruding here.

  13. I use HDPro 2018,  for my own reasons and for some of my own clients and for the right project - and I am a professional Architect in my 60's.

    The use of Home Designer is not restricted in any way to DYI's  - I wouldn't think.

    It's the decision of the individual  as to which program is best, surely.

    I note also that there is a 'Seeking Services' on the Home Designer Forums page.

    When someone says Dome Home, this is what I think of.

    Now you're talking.....That's a dome-home, or two....even.

    Note - the Home Designer Core Catalogue - has a folder with domes and spheres in it,  that you could place in a model - but as to editing them, adding windows etc....I have never seen this exhibited anywhere in this forum. Sounds like a job for other software editors perhaps.......an 'igloo' tool.
