    You could use a wall, but walls come with all the special properties of walls, which I would not want.

    You are correct there also.

    Well, again I have learnt something tonight;

    When is a backsplash not a backsplash - only limited by your imagination.

    Thanks for the video - it explains the process.

    Any thoughts you have would be appreciated.

    Well there you go looks like Jo_Ann has a solution for you - she beat me to it.

    Although - the method of doing it is not explained for you.

    There is still the Sketchup modeling option if you prefer suggested by someone earlier for you.

    Good luck.

    PS My initial thoughts were to use ceiling plane for the flanges and a new wall type for the web of this tapered portal.

    I have started modelling it on that basis and it works OK.

    If you're interested, I can post some images and how-to's.

    how you are able to use the backsplash tool

    Maybe you might post the details of the portal/tapered posts etc the spans and heights, pitch of roof all that  -  and lets see how it can be done - I'm sure its possible;

    I'll have a go at it - just for the exercise.

  4. With the updating from earlier versions to Home Designer Pro 2024 - the 'What's New' has about 20 or so itemized summary of the new features.

    Is there a video or webinar going over these items showing the locations shorthand or quick access for those that need it.

    It would be great to have the new feature's in the What's New shown with locations clarified - directly.

    I searched for it but nothing has come up.

    Thanks.

  5. I would start with the Adjust Material Definition  tool -- its across the top right side and shows 3 lines close together.

    Select it and click on a material in the 3D view to access its details.

    You can adjust material definitions there.

    trying to simulate a block on foundation with an L block on top and the poured slab within the block

    Sounds like a good drafting exercise - I doubt if HDPro lets us twiddle with the needs you have.

    HDPro provides the necessary drafting tools for this.

    Thats what I would do..as using Chief is not an option for all of us.

    Lastly, I started to follow this post from a few years back regarding Z fighting (just to clean it up):

    Hi - I was curious to see this post you referenced - could you give me a steer towards its location - or the title of the subject (Z Fighting?) so I can search for it please.

    Many Thanks,

    Jeff.

    Is there a way to move all levels of a single building at once on a plan with more than one building?

    Save/export it (the second dwelling) as a DAE file then re-insert it onto site and it (another file/object ) can be moved as a complete item.

    This has worked for me.

    Edit area tool was like handling the queen bee in my experience.

    Results can go amiss occasionally. Need more practice.

    Any ideas please?

    Yes - I have in the past obtained the manufacturers brochure and technical details and built bespoke objects in HDPro.

    If I apply simple geometry then most things can be built using the BIM tools and/or CAD tools - or at least possibly found as an object perhaps to import from places like 3D warehouse;

    If you post your .plan file then forum folks that might like to help can give it a go for you as an example.

    Happy building.

    Jeff.

    PS Check the catalogues available via the link in HDPro for what you seek.

  10. If the CAD tools and text tools are available in the layout then it should be possible to draw and create a title block.

    I use Pro and these tools are there in layout. I don't know for sure if they are there in Architectural.

    Maybe open layout and check it.

  11. This is a suggestion only;

    If you want this shop building as a model then export in the shop builidng file as a 3D Collada file (From 3D window) and then import it similalrly DAE back in to your site maybe?

    This works for me - you can then manipulate the whole model incl. terrain as one object. Cool.

    Hint: Watch the scale on importing as DAE file.

    If it's only needed as a polyline type outline - do similarly as a dwg or dxf file.

    See reference manual - its free and accurate info and very good. (Usually)

    if I have to make plan changes after sending them to a layout, it becomes a significant process.

    Hi -I don't live in the US, however, I am producing drawings for my local submission in HDPro2023; same story I guess worldwide isnt it?;

    Multiple pages (5) in Layout is a big advancement don't you think?

    For me I don't have an issue with plan changes made as they update in layout automatically - if asked too.

    Save some dollars and check out to the reference manual - it contains some revelations for me - the uninitiated.

    The big issue for me is the drafting quality is a bit average as HDPro is awkward at times as a drafting desk;

    The means of defining Iine weights is a trip to Mars and only half way back again. Experiment well with this is my motto.

    But I still work with it.;)

    There are other features that make it workable mostly.:)

    No answers out there?

    I have the same problem- and see in the reference manual that it has a lot to do with the scale of the drawings you nominate - but I cant solve my printout problems, I do not understand the logic of this at all,  no matter what I try....so I sympathise there  - If I get an answer - I will leave it here.
