  1. I'm not sure about the specifics of setting the terrain, but looking at the PDF, I would suggest the house is set far too low. You will want the grade sloping away from the front of the house, and pitched so water has a clear path around the house. I would try the house 4, 5 or 6 feet higher.

I'd call it a bug and encourage you to send the plan, problem, and fix to Chief for a look.

As I suspected, there is a wall interfering. First floor, below the windows. See the setting change that corrects the issue in the image.

You could zip the plan file -- that should get it small enough to post, or use Edit>Edit Area to select a portion of the plan and post it. Just copy the problem wall and a bit of the surrounding area and paste into a new plan.
  5. Is there something specific you use some help with? What part of the process do you find overwhelming? Are you working on a new design, or modeling an existing place? Tell us a bit about your project -- post some pictures if it's an existing structure. I started about 18 months ago by watching every video I could find, and by drawing plan after plan until I had a reasonable understanding of how the software works.
  6. Have you tried using the truss tool? Not sure the steeply pitched members can be done. might need to do it in Sketchup. This was my first project and I used the truss tools to do the trusses.

Delete 2 of the 3 windows leaving the center one. Position it, then put the other 2 back. Or, delete the problem window, copy the outside one and reflect about the center window.

  9. Sailor -- how about starting a new thread, and post images and your plan file.
  10. That's a really simple plan -- why not just redraw it? You would not need the basement and all the interior, just the outside walls and roof. I'd go to the side if you have the room. Adding so much in front of the house will look odd, I believe.
  11. Does the house face west? Are you saying add 12' to the front of the garage, then move the garage doors to the left side? The sewing room would then be between the garage and house?
  12. You are looking for the old forum. This one is, I believe, is less than 2 years old. Here is a link. http://hometalk.homedesignersoftware.com/forumdisplay.php?2-Q-amp-A
  13. If all you have is a PDF of your plan, you may be able to create an image from it, import the image, and then trace over it to create a new plan. Here is a Knowledge Base article on doing that.
  14. Did you install Home Designer on the new computer? Can you locate your plan file on the new computer? Should be name.plan (replace name with whatever you called it). Not sure why you are using Acrobat. Are you looking for a PDF file?
  15. Chief Architect $2,500+, has Ray Trace and additional rendering techniques. I believe Pro has the same tools as Suite. You could download the trials and test for yourself.
  16. Have you published the Update Notes for the latest update? Maybe a link could be posted in Announcements?
  17. Use the Same Wall Type Handle.
  18. This should fix both problems. A couple of dimensions were wrong in the lower bath. To fix the hole, I just turned the corner with the wall. Interior Design - eric.plan

  21. Happens to me all the time, and is always frustrating to fix. To provide the best solution, we need to know more about your plan, but here are a couple of ideas. In all cases, try to get the walls set as needed, then build the roof. Roof Cuts Wall at Bottom. This lets you have a wall on top of the roof, and no wall below. Lower Wall Type if Split by Butting Roof. Adds a different type of wall below -- say, an interior wall. Roof planes need to split the wall, not butt against it. The roof plane often needs to be modified as shown here where I moved part of it back. You could also add 2nd floor. The raised gable in front could have a second floor as the raised part. It all depends on what the inside needs to look like.

    Atriums

Your plan did not attach, and LawB10 did not post any images to this thread. Were you referring to this one? I believe that was done with manual roofs. Delete the roof planes that slope down to the atrium, and extend the outer ones up. You might also try adding a second floor with a single room above the atrium. Make it Open Below and no roof. The auto build roof function may do what you want.
