Change Floor Height Without Changing Wall Height

Recommended Posts

I am attempting to recreate my row-house basement and am struggling to move the floor height without effecting the basement wall height. The Ceiling joists are anchored into the basement brick stem wall but protrude about 2.5" above the basement wall. The 1st floor wall is thinner than the basement stem wall so the ends of joists don't protrude into the 1st floor wall but only the basement stem wall. The subfloor for the 1st floor then sits on top of the basement ceiling joists. When I raise the joists out of the stem wall the flooring continues to sit on top of the stem wall with the joists protruding through the floor, As in the following pictures.

If I then attempt to move the absolute elevation of the first floor flooring to sit on top of the joists the stem wall height changes as well, as below.

Is there a way to independently raise the flooring height without changing the height of the basement stem wall?  Thanks in advance for any help.

It helps if we know what title (Suite, Pro etc) and version (2014, 2015 etc) you are using. You can add this info to your signature by clicking on your user name at the top right of the page, click My Settings, then Signature on the left.

You might post the plan file too. Make sure it's not open in the program.

Without understanding just how things are built, and how accurate you need to model the as built condition, what I describe below is just an idea.

I inserted a new floor 1 that is 3" high. No floor or ceiling structure, just walls like on your floor 1 (now floor 2).

This acts as a spacer to lift the new floor 2 above the joists.

I made a few other changes to some wall settings, but the important one was to uncheck Subflooring to Wall Interior for all the walls on floor 2.

You may also need to check Go Through Floor Below for these same walls.

Plan with changes attached.
