andrewcali
Does anybody know why Shiny surfaces such as chrome, stainless steel, polished aluminum show up a dull black in 3-d?? The mirror setting does not seem to effect this as well.
Kbird1
they aren't mirror's joking aside , the default materials are setup for Ray Tracing in Chief I think , so at least for Stainless I made a library , which is posted here on the forum here https://hometalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/128-stainless-steel-library/?hl=%2Bstainless+%2Bsteel and Kat posted some textures here too for other metals https://hometalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/15-kitchen-appliances/#entry37 and how to use them here https://hometalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/1072-appliance-textures/#entry6129
DavidJPotter
Mick has the solution, the reason default materials of metal look bad is the lack of corresponding textures (the default metal "materials" are merely colors). An image file can show greater depth and a sense of reality that drab colors cannot. Download and install Mick's custom textures and get more realistic results. You can locate, download and then import as custom materials anything you can find and edit from the WWW. I do it from time to time when I require an exact material. It requires a little more work and steps but enhances the outcome. DJP
