Hi all, I have a client with a Picket fence. She loves her fence but wants to increase the height and modernize the look. I have tried to make a few examples for her to view. In the fence with the metal roofing in the base the corrugation is running the wrong way. I have searched for info to no avail. ? How do I change the direction of the metal corrugation please. I can explain to her that the corrugations will run the other way. However it seams every time we meet I am apologizing as I am unable to get the software to do what I want. I would love to give her the examples the way they will be in real life. Many Thanks Robyn

Anyone can draw a home plan and present it to the local building council. The issue is do you know and understand span tables. In Australia you would not be allowed to draw the construction plans unless you are a qualified Draftsmen or Architect or Engineer. However a home owner can draw their own home plans for submission to council but the building inspector would require an Engineer to sign off on the plan and its specifications. Here computer plans can be drawn and then given to an engineer to be checked. Then redrawn and presented to the Building Department of the local Council for approval. Here in Australia you could call yourself a " Computer Aided Home Designer." and charge about $8 per sq meter. Our Draftsmen charge about $15- $20 per square meter. Our Architects charge around $95 to $250 per sq.m. for up to 3 story building and more for anything higher. What insurance company is going to insure your work? You will still need to do some training in wind velocities and the codes for those areas, and sit for a Fire Code Licence.

Ok I have worked it out. I must have been typing things in the search bar it did not like. Found this tutorial http://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/article/KB-00071/ Note. When I followed the instructions I still ended up with a white wall. What I found was it painted the wall on the under the stairs side when I flipped the wall over there was the wall paper. Just thought this might help others to know about the mistakes I made. .

Thank you David I have read these articles several times but I am still at a loss as to why the break tool does not always work. I have also played with the painter tools. I have added a photo and some notes on the photo. I have watched the painting walls video again. I just want the wall in front of the stairs which is made up of a full wall and a half high wall to have the grass wallpaper. Many Thanks Robyn

When I am trying to put different wall finishes on each wall my break wall tool does not always work. I have re-read the reference manual on breakwall tool. Does anyone know why it works on one part of a wall and not on another?

With a clearer head this morning I got it. Many thanks Mick and Solver.. It was so easy today. I placed a internal wall close to the stairs on floor 1, half the length of the stairs. Next I placed a half wall the rest of the way. and wella it worked. If you place the walls too far from the stairs like 2 to 5 mm away, then it does not work. The full wall and the half wall have to snap to the edge of the stairs. You do need to first select the stairs and turn the railing off on either the right side or left depending on what side of the stairs you are putting the wall. Note I am unable to have it the exact height as it is in the clients existing home but it is good enough to do a presentation of their existing home before I start working on my new design options for them. Mick thank you for your condolences. x

I have tried a few things you have gone to such amazing efforts to help me with. I sincerely appreciate your time. But will leave it for a day or so my Youngest Brother died in London yesterday and the frustration of trying to work through this wall situation is too much to bear right now. My thanks to you all for trying to help. Trying to get on with things does not always work... Robyn x

Hi it is very important to tell us what program you are using and to post a picture or your plan. Go up to the attic "A" level draw an invisible wall or put a railing in place, then click on the other area where you want it to be open below. Click the open tool and then select open below. Also go to the video tutorials as there is a tutorial on creating lofts. . If this does not help Post your program and some photos to we can help you.

Hi when I created a loft during this mornings practice session there was a gap between the 2nd floor, flooring and the first floor ceiling. This always happens I usually just leave it. But this morning I thought I would study on how to address this issue. I could not find any info so I put a soffit there to create a neat look. But I cannot work out how to cut the soffit to fit. Many Thank Robyn

How do I setup the ceiling lining material? I cannot find it in defaults materials. I cannot find info in the reference manual.

I have 3 lap tops on my 4 year old I have Vista On my 2 year old I have windows 7 and my 3months old I have windows 8.1 Just so you understand a little more about video cards. My older computer has the ability to have the video cards updated but Vista is a much slower system. My windows 7, 2 year old computer has much more ram and so on but the video card does not allow HD Pro to render in 3D. Also the video card in that computer cannot be updated. Here in Australia we have **** Smith and Officeworks where you go for free into their stores and have a computer engineer walk you through the variables. They looked up Homedesigner web site for me and talked me through my cheapest options and conducted some demos of different computers there speed and showed me how the colours would appear on a few different screens. . Soooooo to get to your point. We may not be the best people to assist you. If you have similar stores in your Town and Country go into and talk to the computer experts or give them a call. You may simply need to update your video card software online or you may need to get a better video card installed or like my windows 7, 2 year old computer it may not support the type of video card you need. If you do not have a free service in your part of the World skype our Officeworks They are open 8am to 6pm 7 days a week. The time here right now is 9.20 am so you have approximately 7 hours to call them. 61 2 4336 2100 Good Luck.

Please post a photo of your floor plan 1st and 2nd floors. Have you tried using the auto roof tool first for the main roof {gable Roof) then turning off auto roof planes tool and building the skillion roof {which I think you are calling a tent roof} manually.? It is important when designing the walls of the plan to have a look at where the roof lines on the plan are sitting. I often need to explain to my clients that a particular wall would be better placed here or there so the roof valleys perform better. I get very frustrated with this program but it will do most things that are possible to build. Its working out how to draw it with this software that is a never ending storey. The more photos you post the better.

Thank you both very much. This year I will be learning " Rivet " It think its called. But my Owner Builders at my workshops will not be able to afford that nor the learning curve. I found this http://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/article/KB-01187/ and was wondering if there are any other things such as videos that help with manipulating HD Pro to get a curved roof. I trust that I will be able to use the barrel roof tools to create half a wave. David thanks for this " Trimble Sketch Up " info. I will look at that right now and pray the learning curve is manageable. You are both a fountain of information. Bless your cotton socks...

Hi All This month I want to learn all there is about Facades. Taking pictures of existing homes and redesigning there Facades. Some of the homes I have been practicing on thus fa have too many trees for a good shot of the house . I drawn the house then I try to add the new materials and I have no troubles with that. When I try to add decor to the exterior I run into trouble. Building things I need gives me grief. My question Are there any videos I could watch on adding designer screens to a home. Adding fancy carports, Currently the house looks like this First attempt at adding and removing as first option for the client But I want to create something like this with a curved garage door. The door will need to be straight but from the street it needs to appear curved. My window manufacturer can make the windows in the shape of a wave for me, but I do not know how to draw them here in HD pro. .

Mmm I typed in Plumbing into the search bar and could not find it either in my HD pro. It probably is something they made with sketchup and imported it to their user library. I suggest going to sketchup 3d library to see if they have one you can add to your library. Or draw one within HD pro with your cad tools. https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/ Have faith someone that has been using these programs longer than I will answer your question.

It does let us create a curved panel, wee ha! I just worked it out I have sent you a clip. You click on the curved deck with the rail after you have drawn it with the tool I showed you before. Click on open You select rail Select panel select material select rail select library materials and choose what you want and wella. I hope this helped you it was a great question and it helped me. I hope I have listed the steps right but I think you'll work it out now. If not just keep asking questions . Someone who knows the program well will help you. Go to David Potters Youtube site and watch his videos I do several times a week. Good luck.

Mmm still looking but I found this and thought you might like to read it if your new here. http://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/article/KB-00926/

Hi I also have pro and just tried to add a panel to the railings and I could not do it. It works with straight railing. I will try and find us some info in Knowledge base and get back to you so we can both learn something.

Did you use the curved deck and rail tool? Because to me it looks like you used a floor tool then added a straight rail. But eyes can deceive. If you're still at a loss post a bigger picture or the plan .

I recommend you try online with David I did and was very happy. But there is so much to learn it will be best if you video the session with a separate camera so you can review the lesson a few times. When I teach I use skype for my Beauty School Students and it can take snap shots and save a video as you speak to the person on a video call. However I encourage my students to video the session with a separate video camera as sometimes the computer video is wavy. I did not set this up when i did it with David but when I emailed him about part of the lesson he made me a video .
