Thanks guys. I used the one from the library and when I searched the online help I didn't get the one that Kat suggested. I entered "create opening for spiral staircase" in the search field -- guess it was too complicated, should have just entered 'spiral staircase". Alan

Oh I thought it was me. Alan

I find that soffits can save my sanity when things don't work out the way you want. I guess Suite doesn't have Pony Walls huh. Alan

Thanks Eric -- I'll look at that. It seems as if they come and go. I look at the doll house view and see the gaps and a while later they have corrected them selves. Alan

I'm trying to create a spiral staircase and am not sure of the procedure. Should I add the staircase starting at the first floor with the correct height and try to create a stairwell? Thanks Alan

I have had this happen probably a dozen times and every time it's triggered by me going in and changing the material definition for an object. I run a Mac. Alan

Kat You got me thinking. I went back and looked at all those walls where I couldn't define the room and they were all listed as Attic walls with no room definition -- even though they were created manually on the second floor. I unchecked all and I can now define the rooms. I have no idea why they were listed that way as the other rooms on the second floor are normal walls. I don't know if it's a bug but if I create a new floor with the Automatically create walls from the first floor un-checked and add the walls manually then the program should not create walls. Alan

I am having some issues with Auto Build Walls. I don't much care to use it as sometimes it's impossible to remove them which is the issue I'm having today. When I created my second floor I made the decision to not let the program auto build the walls. However I have two rooms at the back of the second floor that I cannot select to define the room options. So I tried to remove the external walls and recreate them but the software keeps telling me that I'm about to delete an auto generated wall. How can I turn off Auto Generate Walls? Thanks Alan

Here is a cross section of the wall that doesn't sit on top of the floor below. I have to manually stretch each wall polyline to close the gap. This has nothing to do with the wall misalignment. Alan

I've been using HD Pro for about two months now and use this forum to get the help I need. I am a member of a few product forums but this one is hands down the most helpful. I am still amazed at the lengths some of you will go to get people on the right track -- even taking their plan files and fixing issues. Some will take someones problem and take the time to actually create a plan file with the issue resolved. Some create a video of the steps needed to fix the problem. Kudos to all you people and thanks. Sincerely Alan

Kat Yes I have plans for that wall. The vapor barrier goes on the inside of the framing -- well on all the walls I've ever built it does. I did check the two wall types - my custom and the 4" Stucco and they all align to the main layer -- the studs. I'll check again tomorrow though. Thanks Alan

Kat I thought I had downloaded every free bonus catalog -- perhaps that is not free. Thanks Alan

I noticed that Kat --- need to get the walls finished before building the roof. Any ideas why the gaps between some walls in elevation? I added some more walls but am having an alignment issue. If I align the second floor with the first and look at the doll house view there is a definite misalignment of about 3". Thanks Alan
-
Kat I have no idea how those got changed. Alan

Eric Okay I did that but now some of my second floor walls are floating and some are not visible. Alan Inverness.plan

I've been working on a plan and had issues with my second and third floors so I deleted them and started over with just the first floor. I created a new second floor with no auto build. I added a couple of external walls and aligned them with the walls below. When I go to the second floor dollhouse view there are no walls visible. Okay I deleted the floor and created a new floor with auto walls turned on. It created the second floor on the first floor. Could someone please take a look at my plan to see what's going on. Thanks Alan Inverness.plan

Does anyone have links to various weather vanes that I can use in my 3D model? Thanks Alan
-
Eric For some reason hitting the 3 on the keyboard doesn't seem to work for me. Are you supposed to hold down the 3 key while clicking on the roof plane? Thanks Alan
-
I could sometimes beat my keyboard when that pesky Auto Built Walls dialog box comes up. Deleting the wall only leaves it's outline. It even popped up when I didn't auto build my second floor GRRRR. Alan

David This is the roof I was trying to draw. Dunain Park Hotel Scotland -- my wife and I stayed there in 1995. Alan

Thanks Kat. I can't afford to upgrade to CA Premier so I guess I'm stuck with creating them myself as David suggested. I have a question though -- the Pella catalog is a CALIBZ file and I've imported that type of file many times so why can't I do that now? Thanks Alan
-
I didn't check but I did create the same wall in another Plan and it came out fine. I copied and pasted the roof into my plan. So to answer your question -- probably yes as the default is gable. Alan
-
The strange thing is -- once I dragged something out of the library into the drawing, all of the libraries that were not available before are now available when changing defaults. Alan

I did a search and it appears that the best way to build a roof over a curved wall is to use the Auto Roof tool. Unfortunately mine came out all wrong. Any thoughts? Thanks Alan

Yes thanks Dave that's what i wanted. Alan
