  1. The two shots show the doors with casing and without. I hadn't thought about changing swing as a garage door only opens one way. I'll try that. Thanks Alan
  2. On a similar note, would it be possible to photograph a section of brick and somehow use that to add material to walls? None of the default bricks match my house. Thanks Alan
  3. David I remember when I was working with AutoCAD drawings that were shared among designers. Some wag would go way out in left field and put a dot or some other very small object. When the next guy that worked on it did a View Extents the main area of work was minuscule and it took a while to find the errant object. Alan
  4. Eric That is what I did -- use auto frame and edit. I noticed extra joists as well -- didn't know why but do now. Alan

    Dentil Molding

Yes that was the case. Thanks Alan
  6. I set it to 0" and that had the desired effect. Alan
  7. Okay thanks Eric I'll try that Alan
  8. My garage doors do not have any casings (moldings) on the outside -- just a cased opening to cover the block. I can't seem to get the 3D look that is correct. If I uncheck the exterior casing option the block is exposed (second screen shot). Can anyone help? Thanks Alan PS I should add that I have the same issue with exterior doors.
  9. I believe so unless someone can advise if we can mull windows together (which would be nice as I have two side by side with transoms over). Alan

    Dentil Molding

David I downloaded SketchUp and rotated it but when I try to import it, it says it was created in an incompatible software version. Do I have to purchase SketchUp Pro? Thanks Alan

    Dentil Molding

    Okay thanks Alan

    Dentil Molding

Well I rotated it in the plan view but it's upside down in elevation and there is no option to rotate it. If I rotate in plan view then all I get in elevation is the back i.e. no dentils showing Alan

    Dentil Molding

I need some help with dentil molding. I downloaded a file from 3D Warehouse and when I place it in my plan it is showing as a front view -- see screen shot. In elevation view it's obviously not displaying correctly. I can't seem to find a way to rotate it so that it displays okay in elevation. Thanks Alan

    Deck Railings

Duh -- I feel so stupid. Thanks for bring me to sanity. I also changed to the deck railing. Alan
  15. David I saw that you were searching for a wall definition that he wasn't using. If I need a new wall definition I just copy an existing one, give it a new name, and then make the changes. Alan

    Deck Railings

Eric I am using the standard railing -- not the deck railing. Kat I chose to create my own deck as the auto generated deck looked nothing like my existing deck. It was just too much work to make all the changes necessary. Thanks Alan

    Deck Railings

I got the framing done for my deck and am trying to add railings but it places them on the floor below (which happens to be the slab on grade). How can I get them to locate on the deck surface? Thanks Alan
  18. I removed the break between 2 & 3 and made a stairwell but it ignored the break at 1 and removed the ceiling over the foyer. So that doesn't work. I need to find out how to make a ceiling. BTW I tried making that staircase with actual dimensions of my house -- second floor elevation, length of risers, number of treads, height of treads etc., and the program tells me that the staircase doesn't reach the second level -- go figure. Alan
  19. You are correct -- the only way to tell if it's not mitered is from above. Alan
  20. Thanks Eric I think that will work just fine. Alan
  21. The only issue is, that the area #1 in my house has a flat ceiling at 13' and if I select Open Below it makes the stair well open from the first floor to the second -- right!. That is not how it was built -- and yes the ceilings follow the roof planes. Alan
  22. Ah okay didn't know that. Should have know when I selected the "Built-In" fridge. Thanks Eric
  23. I place a fridge and dishwasher in plan but in dolls house view their faces were in the same plane as the wall and the majority of the appliance is outside. If I move the fridge forward into the room so that it is fully inside the room it doesn't look correct in plan -- see screenshots. Any idea what's going on? Thanks Alan
  24. I have a staircase that consists of three flights of stairs and two landings. If you look at the screen shot that is taken from the second floor area #1 is a foyer with 13' ceiling and will have the first flight of stairs leading to the first landing, area #2 is second flight of stairs and has a slope ceiling, area #3 is the second landing with a sloped ceiling and area #4 is the third flight of stairs with the continuation of the sloped ceiling leading to the second floor hall way with an 8' ceiling. My question is should I make these 4 areas separate by using room dividers (I already did to make area #1) and what heights should I use for the sloped ceiling areas? Thanks Alan
  25. I had the same issue yesterday. After adding a tree to my terrain my cursor kept turning into a tree. Really weird. Alan
