Because that's one of the many things the people at Chief decided to omit from Home Designer. Chief has all the functionality you desire, and it's all easy and automatic.

You can try using the Delete Surface tool, then Export 3D Model (DAE or STL), and then Import 3D Symbol.

How did you rotate your plan? In general, you should use Edit Area when rotating a plan. Grab the rotate handle and spin it around, or use Transform/Replicate to rotate an exact amount.

You are asking about an engaged column -- a pilaster is rectangular. Depending on size, you can imbed the symbol in the wall so only part shows. Google 3d warehouse for more symbols.
