Again get same Warning when trying to copy/paste a new framing object (stud).

  • Whereditgo changed the title to Not able to add (copy/paste) wall studs.

Appreciate the suggestion/workaround.

Actually tried that earlier and was able to add the post to the wall.

Just curious if the Copy/Paste is User Error (not knowing how its done), Home Designer Pro limitation (have seen this come up/limited CA feature) or slim chance a bug.

Thank You

why mess with framing as it is kinda generic...

framing crews may start studs at other end or whatever

I can pretty much say the one thing they do not do is look at framing plans for where each stud should go.

They will look at Framing details for what the plans state for ceiling height, beams sizes, joist sizes, headers, corners and mainly roof framing details like knee walls, collar ties, etc.

But to waste any time on locating studs; something behind the sheet rock and never seen and that pretty much has no bearing on home plans seems a waste of time to me...

Agree, the specialized crew/contractor will adapt (framers/plumbers/electricians...). In this case the actual wall design is not one typical framers deal with.

My current design is based on  “Joseph Lstiburek’ perfect wall:

https://buildingscience.com/documents/insights/bsi-001-the-perfect-wall

Basic wall is 2x4 16" O.C. frame with a DIY SiP panel (ZIP, 4" Poly ISO, ZIP) attached with long SIP/Insulation screws to the studs.  In this case I need double/backer stud positioned 4 feet O.C. (to accept long SIP/Insulation Screws at vertical ZIP panel joints).

Again,Just curious if the Copy/Paste is User Error (not knowing how its done), Home Designer Pro limitation (have seen this come up/limited CA feature) or slim chance a bug.

Thanks

@Whereditgo Wall framing can only live inside of the wall, and when you copy+click to paste, it isn't trying to paste it into the wall object, meaning you're met with that message.

Instead to copy/paste wall framing, in any view, you're going to select the stud, click Copy, and then use the Move edit handle to move a copy of the stud.

I have created a short gif that demonstrates this process in a cross section view, but this can be used in camera view or in plan view.

If you're curious on how to create a cross section framing view, please see this Knowledge Base article: https://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/article/KB-01188/creating-an-elevation-view-of-wall-framing-in-home-designer-pro.html

I hope this helps!
