NeedAPlan
HD Pro 2025 WIn I'm kind of new to HD and have been trying to learn about manually adjusting roof planes. I don't really have the hang of it yet. For the plan below the circled "hump" was what HD auto generated and I am trying to simplify. The main house is only 1 story so there is attic space below most of the main roof. There is a bonus room above the garage. I think I should be able to have a straight flat ridge line down the center of the main house. Then I think I should be able to have a section of roof perpendicular to that connecting the main roof and the roof over the garage. There are still some complicated angles to it, but I don't think there needs to be a hump. I've posted a few other 3D views and a rendering more like what I expect it to look like based on a similar floorplan, although it's not the best angle. I've watched through some roof videos in the official HD training as well as from a couple of the YouTubers. I can get the back roof to be a rectangular plane (although probably not using the simplest methods), but I am struggling with the front part connection of the garage and main roofs. Any hints appreciated. plan.zip
Solution y-g-m-n Posted Thursday at 08:20 AM Solution Share Posted Thursday at 08:20 AM I would MANUALLY Adjust roof planes. Turn off auto roof rebuild. Delete the roof planes you do not like Extend the one on the hump side all the way to outer edge and proper overhang. then adjust opposite side of roof plane top ridge down until it is straight and connects to the side behind you edited. Might have to use soem of the roof plane tools like connect planes etc. (USE HELP SCREEN if unsure) Edite and fix roof planes above that angled bonus space area. Might need to tweak soem things like roof and wall figure together. Also with that bonus room the walls etend above downward sloping roof you may want to add some crickets, something to slow and divert rain water rushing down roof plane so it does not smack into vertical wall, because it will be difficult to waterproof and over time will leak and rot and be a nightmare Lots of stuff can be done using manual roof editor in HD PRO

I auto generated the initial roof, but am now trying to clean it up manually. Just having trouble working with those planes, how to adjust them in the 3D and plan views. You're right about the wall, I'll need to fix that.
Rookie65
My 2 cents is to start with the bonus room roof. Draw that manually so it sets your fascia height since that is actual living space. Then manually draw the roof over the house along the whole length, setting the fascia height the same as the bonus room. Then you will see which roofs need to be adjusted using line break tool and the connect roof tool and adding roofs as needed to get them all to attach. It will give you a taller attic, yet you should be able to do it without crickets once they're on the same ridge plane
