Hip Roof: Edit the ridge

Hello all,

I have an enclosed rectangular structure measuring 12.46 m x 13.15 m ( 40'87" x 34'14")

The floor plan view

The red intersection lines are used to modify/increase ridge length.

After generating the automatic hip roof, I would edit the ridge (increase its length) of a hipped roof, keeping the pitch at 35%.

Hip Roof: Edit

When I try to click and drag points to the intersection lines the two roof planes are no longer coplanar and their shape changes.

What are different methods to fix it in Home Designer Pro 2024?

I have attached a file Hip Roof_EDIT-March27,2024

change overhang for those walls then rebuild roof.

In effect that is what you are doing if you keep roof plane slope.

Or do want different roof plane slopes?

Kinda confusing what you want as extending ridge has to be accounted for somehow.

@ scottharris & y-g-m-n , thanks for your replies.

Below is a partial picture of the hip roof I want to modeling.
The ridge length is 6.12m, the roof overhang is 1m and the pitch is 35%.

The view of the plan with the dimensions of the intersection lines to modify/increase the length of the ridge: 6.12 m.

The generation of the automatic hipped roof gives a ridge length of 0.70m

in your picture you show a GABLE end over the one end I can see.

That changes ridge length since it goes all the way to this Gable end over wall.

your model does not have gable end any where.

You have hip roof over the 4 walls.

The roof ends up being the roof based on:

Exterior Wall locations

Wall Height

Roof Pitch (slope)

Overhand from exterior walls both for hip and gable style roofs.

There are more but these are the basics.

so draw your house plan get it right then choose which walls are gable and hip, check your room ceiling height as it sets wall height.

then make the roof.

Worrying about Ridge length is not the way to go about this.

Maybe this is a language translation thing?

In my previous post, I made a mistake 35% = 19.29 degrees and not 35 degrees. I apologize for this.

I edited the pitch of the 2 short walls (12.46 m) to 31.73 degrees

but the overhangs have decreased to 0.57m

How can i fix it?

Changing the overhang in Wall spec doesn't do anything.

Gable Roof

I changed the Overhang  to 0.9 m to have an offset but the fascia are aligned.

How to solve it?

The other gable roof. The hip roof requires a 1m overhang  instead of 0.57m.

  • 2 weeks later...

Could anyone help me in finding a solution to the issue with the length of the roof overhangs for the 2 short walls which has decreased?

Following the adjustment of the inclination to 31.73 degrees, the roof overhangs of the two short walls decreased to 0.57 meters from their original length of 1 m. For the 4 walls, a hipped roof calls for a roof overhang of 1 meter.
