Create Raised Floor in Garage

Hi!

I need to be able to create a raised floor in a garage. The garage is being turned into a Mother-In-Law suite/Apartment.

Basically, footings and beams supporting joists for a floor, but still showing the garage floor. This is to raise the floor up to the first-floor door height.

I need to show the crawl space that will be created between the garage floor slab and the new raised floor.

I can't figure out how this is done. I've tried to do it with the deck tools, but can't make it show up once I make the railings invisible. I've also tried doing it with the framing tools, but can't figure out how to make that work.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

I'm hoping to just model the garage area, without doing any of the other house (As it's not needed).

I will do what you just suggested; build a second floor and drop the garage ceiling down. At this point, I'm just trying to get this done easily. I can draw it on paper faster, but I lose all of the other functionality of having a model I can move around and update quickly.

Thank you for the suggestion!

Did you ever figure this out? I’m looking to do the same

It's always important to say what software you are using, like Pro 2024, as Suite, Architectural and Pro all have different capabilities.

See this thread on ChiefTalk, but please continue to ask questions here, as ChiefTalk is for users of the Chief Architect (not Home Designer) products.

And it's almost always best to start a new thread when you have a question.

Thank you @solver. I have home designer pro 2024 subscription service.  I basically laid out the existing home with the exception of the crawl space.

i figured how to do the floor joist and the stem walls.  I need to create footings for the longer runs of the joist.  Although, I don’t think I need the detail since I most like won’t be changing a lot from a structural standpoint but it is a good to know.

i may open up a load bearing wall (about 12 feet) for an open concept.  I may need to add two footings on each end and beef up the ceiling joist.

i would like draw it  for the sake of learning. I will have structural engineer make / create the details but at the minimal have him review and make recommendations.

if you have examples that I can look at that would be awesome. I suspect it isn’t easy to do without chief architect. I’m not a pro and won’t want to pay the premium since I’m not doing this as a living. So, i appreciate any advice you can offer up.

thanks,

Ben
