LenB10p
Has anyone created a barn with space for a garage/cars as well as a workshop and an office using the HD Suite 2015? Any tips or guidance before I start my project? Thanks Len
DavidJPotter
The most common feature of a "BARN" is it's "Gambrel" roof type. How to set up for such a roof is fully explained within the :"Build Roof Dialob - Roof Styles" tab. The rest is relatively straight forward. How to create a loft is covered in articles that can be searched for at the Home Designer website - knowledge Base of Help Articles. It is easy and fun, start! Kbird1
There is a wealth of information/tutorials in the KnowledgeBase but the UserGuide (see help menu) has tutorials too you can use to learn the program Is it a Pole Barn or basically just a big shed/garage? I thought from your other thread it was a historic French Stone barn? this KB article may help if it is a Pole Barn? http://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/article/KB-01081/103/Home-Designer/Framing/Creating-a-Pole-Barn-Structure.html the basic roofs http://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/article/KB-00359/
LenB10p
Thanks for the guidance. I'm still struggling with a few things. I can't seem to get the gambrel roof to work on the barn I've created as it seems to be on the wrong sides. I also want to have a "mezzanine" or half floor for a storage area with stairs...can't figure that one out. And...I can't get the "angle snap" to reset to anything else. A true voyage of discovery. Kbird1
sounds like you just need to set the walls opposite of how you have them now then ,go thru the gambrel tutorial again carefully and set the correct walls as full gable. not quite sure what the issue with angle snaps is from your decription.....there is an icon to toggle them on or off ( or F10),default is on I think The are also settings for snapping in the preferences Menu and on the Edit menu >snap setting too angle snap icon Snap Setting in Preferences have a look at this KB Tutorial for mezzanine / loft area http://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/article/KB-00210/ or other posts on mezzanine via the search function of the forum http://www.homedesignersoftware.com/search/?q=mezzanine&default_tab=support&site=chief_architect&client=chief_architect&restrict=ChiefArchitect&proxystylesheet=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.chiefarchitect.com%2Fsearch%2Fchiefsearch_stylesheet.xslt&output=xml_no_dtd&submit.x=5&submit.y=15 M. LenB10p
Thanks for everyone's help...got the barn pretty much completed with a mezzanine and gable roof. I now want an "auvant" or porch overhang above the double garage doors. Is it possible to create this separately and attach it to the front of the barn? cheers Len
Kbird1
not in Suite , but if you build 3 invisible walls (U shaped) say 2 feet off the doors , you will get a room definition and a roof can be generated over the "invisible" Room no room def. = no roof you should be able to uncheck ceilings as normal too and add a few brackets from the library to hold it up.
