Why the cabinet door thickness is not included in the cabinets's depth?

Recommended Posts

I planned two 600 mm cabinets next to a 600 mm wall. The 2D view look ok but in 3D the cabinet doors are outside of the cabinets front surface. I'm wondering what is the logic behind this behavior?

That's the standard, at least here in the USA.

You really don't want to take your cabinet al the way to the end of a wall anyway  you need to allow at least 1.5" min for the countertop overhang.  I allow not less that 1.75" from the face of the cabinet not the doors.

Also, you will need to consider how far your cabinet handles protrude. This is extremely important on inside corners. If you do not allow enough room there your drawers will hit the handles of the adjacent inside corner cabinet door/drawer when you open them if you do not allow for it.
