lawrencelam2000
I just drew a fairly complicated roof with hips, gables, dormers, bell sweeps, etc. I'm now discovering that instead of 2x8s, ALL the planes should be framed with 2x10s, in order to insulate up to energy code requirements with simple batt insulation. But I'm discovering now that increasing the rafter depth of a complicated roof is not so easy. In fact, I'm having no luck at all, either with the individual roof plane dialogue, structure tab; or with the default settings framing tab dialogue- auto rebuild roofs sequence. I would hate to have to redraw this complicated roof, plane by plane, with 2x10s, to me that would really be "the hard way!!!" I would just love to simply hit a button or two, and all the rafters magically turn into 2x10s, not changing the top elevation of any of the rafters; they just get deeper and intrude a little further into the attic space. Hope I'm describing the situation understandably. The most direct, simplest solution would be appreciated! y-g-m-n
DId you try by changing DEFAULT FRAMING member size for rafter? Then go to BUIILD FRAMING Then SELECT BUILD FRAMING ONCE Then check ROOFS Then hit OK and see what happens? Pretty sure that is 2024 edition I know it is my 2025. BUT Rafters located based on Wall Top Plate and normal birds mouth so rafter tops will be elevated. Also are you getting spray foam under roof deck? as normal insulation is in Ceilings or Ceiling Joist bays unless you want conditioned attic and then normal avenue is spray foam which requires less depth for same R as Fiberglass bat.
